“honestly the best ramen i’ve ever had. the broth has so much depth, it’s not too salty, we could drink it all. and the noodles weren’t the traditional yellow egg noodles but these are honestly better. you can taste the quality and we found out they’re handmade locally! very friendly service too. 11/10 recommend.“

“This place essentially invented farm-to-table dining and should be highly regarded and appreciated through the annals of history. Unfortunately, I feel like fine dining has evolved and Chez Panisse feels desperately stuck in the past. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that, as the older clientele demonstrates, but the food left me longing for something more interesting given the price.
I struggled with 3 or 4 stars here, but ultimately decided that the service and ambiance took it to four. But I have to reiterate that the food was truly petty meh and unexciting. The fish was dry, we were served fried rockfish on a slice of tomato for pie appetizer (lol), and a mushroom pasta dish was only okay. The best part of the dinner was the ice cream dessert which I have to admit was stunningly good.
That doesn't mean Chez isn't an institution. It is. But the flavors, menu, and preparation feel woefully stuck in the past.“

“La Marcha is one of our fave restaurants in the east bay. All of the dishes are packed full of flavor. We like to order a few tapas and a paella and take the leftover paella home to enjoy the next day. It's a fun date night or dinner with friends!“

“Think you know great pizza?
If you haven't been to Pizzeria de Laura, you should rethink your assumptions!
I mean, they're not Cheeseboard (no one is, let's be honest), but they have SO MANY MORE OPTIONS.
Every pizza here is awesome. If you have a preference for a particular style, find the equivalent on their menu and compare!
Our favorite is the Ray J, either on Sicilian, Detroit Deep Dish, or Grandma's - in that order.
Try Laura and her pizza out. It's worth the $, promise.“

“We had the best brunch experience ever today! The lemon ricotta pancakes along with the cheesy potatoes were delish! We sat outside on their darling little patio and listened to live music, it was so lovely. But the best part of all was the outstanding service from Maxine, her suggestions were on point and her beautiful energy was exactly what our morning needed! Will definitely be back!“

“I enjoy this restaurant very much. The food is excellent and fresh. it’s served hot every time. The servers can speed up with taking orders but otherwise, they are o.k. The restaurant is ok. The seating is too close for me but I get it. There’s No parking. It’s excellent.“

“What a cute place! The owner was super nice and welcoming, and the food was delicious! Simple, clean and honest. This is definitely going to be our new go-to in the neighbourhood. I wish they phase out the disposables, but they do have regular utensils which is already more than lots of other places.
Vegetarian options: I think all of the food had a vegetarian option with protein and it was easily marked.
Kid-friendliness: We were there with a toddler, and there were other families as well. They have high seats, accessible for strollers and the bathroom is super clean.“

“Delicious morning pastries, and Cheesebord style (but better) pizza. If you get a chance, visit on an evening when they've got a live musician performing. I wish this place was in my neighborhood, but it's worth the drive, every time.“

“Tasty food!! Fun servers; may initially come off as a bit curt/quiet; but very nice, and the service is prompt and strong!a couple outdoor tables, and plenty indoor. They have $13-17 lunch specials M-F 11:30-2:30. The main dishes aren’t too much more, and are a great portion size. Kid and dog friendly outdoors.
Vegetarian options: Plenty of veg dishes.
Dietary restrictions: Plenty of veg dishes, and other seafood/tofu options.
Parking: Metered on Solano, and free in neighborhood
Kid-friendliness: Yes!
Wheelchair accessibility: Ada compliant, and the tables have chairs that can be moved to accommodate.“

“Joyride Pizza at Gilman Brewing delivered an unforgettable feast that deserves every star. The Garlic Knots were heavenly, perfectly seasoned with garlic, oregano, and parm reggiano. The "Eat Your Veggies" pizza was a symphony of flavors with Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, olives, and more, all topped with a cheese blend that elevated every bite. The "Vegetarian Bacon Me Crazy" was a plant-based delight, boasting soy-based bacon and rich toppings that melded beautifully. The "Zoe 'Roni Pepperoni" struck the right balance of nostalgia and innovation, a classic with a flavorful twist.I couldn't resist and devoured 7 pieces in total! From the ambiance to the impeccable service, Joyride Pizza is a must-visit. I'm already excited for my next indulgence in their exceptional creations.“

“Pretty good barbecue! The ribs were juicy and well seasoned and the mac and cheese was tasty. We liked the lightly pickled cucumbers. The brisket was a bit dry, but it could have just been a particularly lean cut. The rolls could have used some butter.“

“So interesting... i love the food. Sat at the round table bar in the back surrounding the kitchen. Cool place to eat... this story is good and not so good...
The food is awesome, and the bar is so cool... yet it is difficult to understand what is being ordered and the staff is not helpfull.
To avoid confusion, this is a tapas style venue... I love small plates to try different things...
The good: food is awesome ?, try as much as you can, it will not disappoint.
The questionable: I don't care for chicken, yet when I ordered, the staff said if you don't want chicken with did u come???
Lol, the menu is diverse beyond just chicken.... fish, wagu, pork, mushrooms, house made pickles... I could go on.
From the bar order the RIHEI GINGER SHOCHU... hidden on the menu.
This single-distilled, one of a kind shochu is made from ginger local to Japan’s Miyazaki prefecture. Named after the distillery’s founder, Rihei Ochiai, this 4th generation, family run distillery honors the traditions of their 100-year-old past while taking on a modern twist for the 21st century. Rihei Ginger was born after local farmers came to the distillery requesting he craft a new shochu made from their amazing quality ginger
The bad; service stinks... smh...sad. lol I almost walked out when they asked, "If u don't like chicken, then why are u here." What!@#
All this said, expect to drop 100 per person. I would certainly go back!
YMMV!“
“What a gem! In the courtyard of the Anthropology Museum, you’ll find this charming oasis. Everything from the furniture, landscape, menu, and soundtrack are all thoughtfully procured. Afternoon tea consisted of 3 refreshing flavors of tea and 3 sweet dishes. The chia seed porridge was a generous portion with a delicious flavor profile as well as texture. The toasted hazelnuts added a tasty crunch. Blackberries and gooseberries were a nice palate cleanser, and the chia seed flour brownie bites were addictive! The black walnuts and coarse East Bay salt were a perfect combination! I’m thankful they don’t sell these individually otherwise I would be eating them daily. In bulk. Not only was the meal unique and delicious, we also learned some Ohlone history and words as well as heard some lovely songs and spoken word that were pre-recorded. It’s such a nice experience and so much more than just food and drinks!“

“I love Sliver and eat it regularly. All the pizzas are good. Their salads are also always underrated so I grab one to go. And I grab a container of their sauce to use on salads throughout the week. I check each location's pizza of the day before deciding which location to go to.
Vegetarian options: Pizzas are vegetarian“

“East Bay Spice Company has some amazing cocktails, and don't sleep on their tikka masala flatbread!! I added lamb–no regrets!
The drinks have likely rotated off the menu, but I have to give props to the Achari Margarita, which was such a vibrant drink boosted by the garam masala rim. The cucumber shrub and lime cooled that sweet heat very well.
Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options
Parking: Downtown Berkeley is difficult for parking!“

“One of my high school classmates treated me to lunch at Zut's. She booked the reservation for 12:30 PM. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated promptly.
The weather was nice for outdoor dining. After perusing the menu, I decided to have the crab sandwich with avocado on toasted sourdough bread and a side of spring mix salad drizzled with a vinaigrette dressing.
Drawbacks: Nice presentation of the Arnold Palmer, but the tea overwhelmed the lemonade. It was okay, but I had better elsewhere. I did not finish the beverage. I wasn't feeling it. Bread was fine without the butter. Restaurant added salt to the butter. The buttered bread was very salty.
Service was prompt and the waiter was attentive and pleasant.
Restaurant is receiving a 4 star rating for the crab sandwich with a side salad, and customer service.
Future visit? Yes, if I am in the neighborhood for the Margherita pizza.“

“I’ve eaten here for lunch 1-2 times a week for the past two years - Comal Nextdoor is worth every penny. While it’s slightly more expensive than most food in downtown Berkeley, the key word is “slightly.” The portions are massive — I could happily split a burrito with someone else. The service is also really fast. Today, I got my burrito in maybe 2 minutes, I’d say the average is 4-7 minutes. Can’t recommend the chicken burrito highly enough, either.“

“The menu is relatively limited. I don't eat pork so that cut out a large number of things (usually not a problem for me in Thai restaurants). Pad Thai was great but my fave was the crispy rice salad. The ladies who run the place and serve are THE BOMB. They'll do whatever they can to make you smile and I loved them!!! Definitely recommend giving it a try.“

“They have a good variety of different dishes to choose from. The food was so delicious! It is now one of my favorite pasta places. I tried their chicken gnocchi. The restaurant has plenty of seating and was clean. The prices were also very reasonable! I will definitely be coming back.“

“We usually enjoy eating at Comal, but last night it was so hot in the restaurant that it made it impossible to enjoy our meal. I understand we are going through a heat wave, and that they don't have AC, but perhaps some fans could have been brought in to make sitting there bearable. My partner and I were sweating through the entire meal, and probably should have left before ordering and gone somewhere else.“

“I thought I’d never have sizzling rice soup again after I went vegan, found this place on the internet and immediately went for dinner. It did not disappoint— the sizzling rice soup and broccoli & tofu were both delicious, sizzling rice soup was exactly the same as the meat version and the broccoli and tofu was incredibly deliciously seasoned. Will definitely be back!“

“Got the vegetarian combo plate and a sambusa. The azifa that comes with the vegetarian combo platter is out of this world. It’s light, refreshing and has the tangy flavor to cut the heat of the other items on the platter. Teff injera was delicious. Sambusa has the crispy flaky exterior and the lentils inside are perfectly cooked and seasoned.
I love the mom and pop, modern feel of this cozy neighborhood joint - smiles all around and you can taste the love and passion in the food.“

“The best Momos and butter chicken and many other things you will eat in Berkeley. Have been living here since 4 years and I make it a point to walk down to the Resturant from the hills at least twice a week for their delicious food. The food tastes like what we eat at home, spices are a perfect blend, and the produce always taste fresh. Khendu & Gopal, the hard working couple behind the Resturant are super friendly and very kind.
It’s very close to University so you all see a lotta kids come for a hot meal & the love the couple have these kids is so beautiful.
I highly recommend Momo Masala. Our favorite place in Berkeley !“

“When I was a school kid. I would always trade my lunch with the kid who had a sandwich made from acme bread. Serving
award winning bread since 1983; I recommend the sourdough, Challah, cheddar biscuits, cross buns, and did I mention the day old bread is half off! There's typically a line out the door but once you get inside the door area the staff are so friendly it's hard to stay annoyed by that.“

“Wow. Wow. Wow. Incredible. Have been a devoted fan for many years, but whoever the 'new' chef is (as of a year or 2 ago?) has hit their stride BIGTIME. I felt like we were at Daniel Boulud's in NYC! I say this because the presentation is phenomenal and the composition of ingredients are stellar. Just a superb dinner with awesome service and the gorgeous ambiance of Julia Morgan's 'Little Castle"s decor. Such a completely unique and special place. We are so spoiled to have this right in our town of Berkeley!“
