“honestly the best ramen i’ve ever had. the broth has so much depth, it’s not too salty, we could drink it all. and the noodles weren’t the traditional yellow egg noodles but these are honestly better. you can taste the quality and we found out they’re handmade locally! very friendly service too. 11/10 recommend.“

“La Marcha is one of our fave restaurants in the east bay. All of the dishes are packed full of flavor. We like to order a few tapas and a paella and take the leftover paella home to enjoy the next day. It's a fun date night or dinner with friends!“

“Staff was well-versed on the vegan menu and were very helpful. I would definitely come back again and try the other vegan options! We had the vegan grandma and the Caesar salad and both were good. Be sure to ask the host for a vegan menu! Update- went back to try the NY vegan - staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We tried the Beet and Chicory salad. We liked the Caesar better but the NY pizza better than the grandma! Updated from previous review on 2024-03-27“

“We had the best brunch experience ever today! The lemon ricotta pancakes along with the cheesy potatoes were delish! We sat outside on their darling little patio and listened to live music, it was so lovely. But the best part of all was the outstanding service from Maxine, her suggestions were on point and her beautiful energy was exactly what our morning needed! Will definitely be back!“

“I enjoy this restaurant very much. The food is excellent and fresh. it’s served hot every time. The servers can speed up with taking orders but otherwise, they are o.k. The restaurant is ok. The seating is too close for me but I get it. There’s No parking. It’s excellent.“

“This is the best Indian food you can get in Berkeley! (Even better than Viks) We got the Vada Pav, Masala Chai and Donne Biryani. Everything tasted great and authentic! Vada pav reminded me of homemade ones in Bombay. Owner was very nice and welcoming. We are definitely coming back for sure!“

“Delicious morning pastries, and Cheesebord style (but better) pizza. If you get a chance, visit on an evening when they've got a live musician performing. I wish this place was in my neighborhood, but it's worth the drive, every time.“

“Popped in for lunch to check out the newly opened H&T and loved it. The brisket was delicious with a side of Vaquero beans that packed plenty of flavor as well. I could see the bar is well stocked with a great selection of spirits as well as a bunch of quality local beers on tap. Points as well for having a quality N/A offering. I received fast and very friendly service. Looking fwd to visiting again soon and wish this new business the best of luck as it was obvious that plenty of heart & soul is invested at heads & tails.“

“So freaking delicious. Good if you want spicy, non American style Chinese food. I mean they have the basics, but we went for the Sichuan specialties. We got the Water Boiled Spicy beef, Ma Po Tofu, and these super delicious pickled green beans and pork. Tofu and the beans were stand out. Love the spice level but might ask for hotter next time. Big portions.“

“What a gem! In the courtyard of the Anthropology Museum, you’ll find this charming oasis. Everything from the furniture, landscape, menu, and soundtrack are all thoughtfully procured. Afternoon tea consisted of 3 refreshing flavors of tea and 3 sweet dishes. The chia seed porridge was a generous portion with a delicious flavor profile as well as texture. The toasted hazelnuts added a tasty crunch. Blackberries and gooseberries were a nice palate cleanser, and the chia seed flour brownie bites were addictive! The black walnuts and coarse East Bay salt were a perfect combination! I’m thankful they don’t sell these individually otherwise I would be eating them daily. In bulk. Not only was the meal unique and delicious, we also learned some Ohlone history and words as well as heard some lovely songs and spoken word that were pre-recorded. It’s such a nice experience and so much more than just food and drinks!“

“Ippuku is my favorite restaurant in Berkeley.

The karaage is wonderful.
The plum wine is delicious.

“East Bay Spice Company has some amazing cocktails, and don't sleep on their tikka masala flatbread!! I added lamb–no regrets!
The drinks have likely rotated off the menu, but I have to give props to the Achari Margarita, which was such a vibrant drink boosted by the garam masala rim. The cucumber shrub and lime cooled that sweet heat very well.
Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options
Parking: Downtown Berkeley is difficult for parking!“

“Their menu says they focus on quality, not quantity, and I agree with this statement. The motherland curry is the kind of dish you want to eat slowly, to appreciate all the flavors. The matcha latte is also of great quality. I say the price is matching of the good food. I think you won't be able to not like it. ;)“

“I finally understand the Slivers hype! It might sound odd to have a pizza shop that only offers one flavor per day, but these flavors are awesome!
? I was lucky enough to be visiting for their legendary potato pizza. It includes goat cheese, baby kale, and a delicious white sauce. I couldn't get enough, it wasn't overly oily or heavy and left me feeling so satisfied. Pizzas come with their special ""green sauce"" which was kind of like a mint chimichurri. This was a great compliment to the already delicious pizza.
??? This specific location has plenty of inside seating, I was ordering my box to go. I love how they give you two extra slivers of pizza on top of the full size, I ate them as I walked to my destination!
Service was so friendly and warm, I had a lovely experience. I get why all Berkeley students reccomend Slivers!“

“They have a good variety of different dishes to choose from. The food was so delicious! It is now one of my favorite pasta places. I tried their chicken gnocchi. The restaurant has plenty of seating and was clean. The prices were also very reasonable! I will definitely be coming back.“

“We usually enjoy eating at Comal, but last night it was so hot in the restaurant that it made it impossible to enjoy our meal. I understand we are going through a heat wave, and that they don't have AC, but perhaps some fans could have been brought in to make sitting there bearable. My partner and I were sweating through the entire meal, and probably should have left before ordering and gone somewhere else.“

“I’ve eaten here for lunch 1-2 times a week for the past two years - Comal Nextdoor is worth every penny. While it’s slightly more expensive than most food in downtown Berkeley, the key word is “slightly.” The portions are massive — I could happily split a burrito with someone else. The service is also really fast. Today, I got my burrito in maybe 2 minutes, I’d say the average is 4-7 minutes. Can’t recommend the chicken burrito highly enough, either.“

“A gem of a vegan restaurant. So many choices we were unable to decide. Each on wasvgood potion and delicious. I tried a vegetable bun for the first time in my life. My 3 y/o grandaughter loves them I did not too much dough for ne but I had an amazing soup very flavorful and filling. Took home for a whole lunch the next day“

“I thought I’d never have sizzling rice soup again after I went vegan, found this place on the internet and immediately went for dinner. It did not disappoint— the sizzling rice soup and broccoli & tofu were both delicious, sizzling rice soup was exactly the same as the meat version and the broccoli and tofu was incredibly deliciously seasoned. Will definitely be back!“

“Got the vegetarian combo plate and a sambusa. The azifa that comes with the vegetarian combo platter is out of this world. It’s light, refreshing and has the tangy flavor to cut the heat of the other items on the platter. Teff injera was delicious. Sambusa has the crispy flaky exterior and the lentils inside are perfectly cooked and seasoned.
I love the mom and pop, modern feel of this cozy neighborhood joint - smiles all around and you can taste the love and passion in the food.“

“The best Momos and butter chicken and many other things you will eat in Berkeley. Have been living here since 4 years and I make it a point to walk down to the Resturant from the hills at least twice a week for their delicious food. The food tastes like what we eat at home, spices are a perfect blend, and the produce always taste fresh. Khendu & Gopal, the hard working couple behind the Resturant are super friendly and very kind.
It’s very close to University so you all see a lotta kids come for a hot meal & the love the couple have these kids is so beautiful.
I highly recommend Momo Masala. Our favorite place in Berkeley !“

“Wow. Wow. Wow. Incredible. Have been a devoted fan for many years, but whoever the 'new' chef is (as of a year or 2 ago?) has hit their stride BIGTIME. I felt like we were at Daniel Boulud's in NYC! I say this because the presentation is phenomenal and the composition of ingredients are stellar. Just a superb dinner with awesome service and the gorgeous ambiance of Julia Morgan's 'Little Castle"s decor. Such a completely unique and special place. We are so spoiled to have this right in our town of Berkeley!“

“Cafe Tibet is in my top 5 restaurants in the East Bay. I love their Ngoe-thuk pan friend sweet potato noodles with tofu and vegetables, which tastes so delicious and the portion so generous it makes me supremely happy! With their Himalayan seasonings, vegetables choices and take on fried rice, noodles, soups, and organic veggie dishes make unique and some of the healthiest Asian food around.
I am gluten free so I can't eat the Momos (Tibetan dumplings), but every person I have brought to Cafe Tibet orders them and says they are scrumptious.
There is an influence of Indian cuisine in some of the dishes and appetizers and their macrobiotic plates are also generously portioned and super tasty.
No boring, bland vegetarian food here.
I have been eating at Cafe Tibet for 6 years and the change to vegan was an enviromental choice on the part of the relative who inherited the restaurant from his Aunt who retired, but it hasn't effected the yumminess of their offerings.
I have spent the past 3 years between NYC, LA, SF and the East Bay and there is a bit of a foodie revolution going on in the later, surpassing everywhere else. I read a list recently that put Oakland as number one on a list as best city to eat out nationally. I am lumping all of the East Bay into that category, but I would agree, Oakland, Berkeley and Albany have it going on.
It's probably the influence of Berkeley's Chez Panisse which started the whole farm to table revolution using quality ingredients to make delicious healthy food. In any case Cafe Tibet is part of that community worth keeping on your Best of the Bay list.

“When I was a school kid. I would always trade my lunch with the kid who had a sandwich made from acme bread. Serving
award winning bread since 1983; I recommend the sourdough, Challah, cheddar biscuits, cross buns, and did I mention the day old bread is half off! There's typically a line out the door but once you get inside the door area the staff are so friendly it's hard to stay annoyed by that.“
