“Both hands up for this wonderful coffee place I happened to stumble upon, right outside the skirts of Downtown Berkeley. They're located right on the intersection of MLK and University, right behind the Indian restaurant.

This coffee place is honestly a little bit small, so please proceed with caution at all costs. But it really makes you feel cozy at home. They do have upstairs seating, but rather really limited. It will be full at times, and at times, not at all. It depends on the time that you go.

They have a wide assortment of sweet and savory pastries available as well. I got their ham & cheese scone, as well as their speciality drink, their banana cream iced coffee. I love how balanced their iced coffee is with the banana cream, which surprisingly, is made with ACTUAL banana puree made from actual bananas.

The barista who made my drink was very nice and very chill, and served it rather quick. That's what's up!

Loved the lemony green juice and organic chicken. The tahini cookies are giant and tasty but would be slightly better with a bit more salt in the dough or a bit of flake salt on the top. Also tasted my friend’s soup, and it was super yummy 😋 too! Note, this is a takeaway place with a few outdoor tables. Other than wanting more salt in my cookie, I loved everything.“

“Go. To. Tarocco. You. Will. Love. It. Everything is healthy and delicious, but in an indulgent way that doesn't compromise on flavor. The owner could not be friendlier, or more welcoming and gracious. The chef clearly cooks with heart and soul and lots of experience. The atmosphere is sunny, inviting and beautiful. And the daily salads are always a home run. Because the salads are already composed, and you order at the counter, service is immediate. They also have delicious coffee and tea beverages, as well as a daily agua fresca and some really delicious-looking desserts (one a day). I'm vegan, and they have yet to offer vegan desserts, but they always have at least 3 vegan salads available. This is my go-to spot to bring out-of-towners or to go with a girlfriend for a lovely lunch in a beautiful environment. [NOTE: Only open for lunch on weekdays. Weekends and evenings, they're busy doing private events.]“

“Acme Bread 🍞 is a hole in the wall, but well worth the trip. The smells of freshly baked loaves and pastries 🍰 are matched by the wide selection on display. Everything we bought was fabulous.

“This place is the best! All of their pretzels are delicious and inventive (Meyer lemon filling? Lox dill & capers so good you'll laugh at Boichik? Check!). They also have Obatzda, which few people here know. Uli and Sabine are super nice, as is all the staff there. They do a monthly pretzel class that is a lot of fun and will fill send you home with plenty of baked goodies.

“Small shop with warm food and an open fridge section of sushi. There was also a wall of snacks. Prices are very reasonable. No verbal communication which I think is fine but the woman dropped my packed sushi upside down and then tossed it into a bag. Sushi rice was a bit too hard for my liking.“

“FatApple's Restaurant in Berkeley is Bombasticly Delicious, and I'll tell you why. It was still dark when I Picked up Squiggly Hamfatter up in Hopland for the trip down to the Chancellor's office at Cal, he had a 10am appointment with the dude to see about his nephew Ardvark transferring in from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, and we were running early so I figured we'd peel off for breakfast. Ardvark's grades are unfortunately not good enough for Cal but Squiggly has an endowment that will build a new research wing, and that'll be the ticket that gets the little Ardvark into Cal. We had an amazing breakfast at FatApple's and just couldn't leave without snagging a whole apple pie to go! Everything about FatApple's Restaurant is

It almost goes without mentioning, but Passione Caffè is absolutely true to its slogan: “A corner of Italy in Berkeley.” From the food and drink to the atmosphere and the service, this is the only truly Italian café I have found in Berkeley! And that comes from over a year of experience living and traveling in Italy! Besides the beautiful architecture and interior design of Passione Caffè—not to mention its convenient location next to Downtown Berkeley BART—I would like to point out some highlights on the menu. The pastas are all made with homemade, organic noodles and made-to-order sauces. The pasta dishes are so fresh and authentic! The spaghetti with meatballs, their only Americanized dish, is to die for! The pizzas also are also made with home-made dough and gluten-free options are offered. Try one with fresh prosciutto, mozzarella, and arugula! The fresh panini with Italian meats and cheeses round out the lunch menu. A serious final highlight was the artisanal gelato, made in-house by the Italian co-owner, Eleanora Cercatore. “I had to give a review because I've been here so many times and this location is probably the best. Every time I come here my sandwich is always super enjoyable. It really know how to make a good sandwich and they know how to get really good customer service. Definitely wanted to make a review sooner than later, but this place is great. I do like everybody that works there. They're great every time I come here it never upsets. I haven't been coming here as much as I used to but every time I one night sandwich in the East Bay I come here“
