Reviews for Great China

When anyone thinks of Chinese food in Berkeley, Great China always comes to mind. I've walked past their modern venue at the corner of Bancroft and Fulton countless times over the years and finally found time to try a cross-section of their offerings recently with a friend. Like many other Yelpers have noted, favorites like the Zhenjiang spare ribs (镇江排骨) and the winter melon & seafood soup (冬瓜海鮮湯) didn't disappoint. The spare ribs were easy to chew off full review
The food is so good but the service is so not. But the food is so so good that I'm sure most people come back anyway. Always a long wait, so plan accordingly. I didn't know I liked duck until I had it at Great China. I've continued trying duck at other places such as Chef Chu's but Great China's duck is still the #1 in my heart and taste buds. I loved the green beans as well. Fried rice was your average fried rice, nothing too special but I mean it tasted good. The full review

This is a really great place to eat. All the food is really light tasting, little to no oil, and pretty good flavors. Depending on what you like, some food may be a little bit too spicy, but I like that. The most recommended is the peaking duck. Honestly all the dishes taste amazing and worth every dollar. Pretty expensive though.
