It's a combination of the wonderful people who work there, the delicious food they prepare, the inviting atmosphere of the restaurant, and the incredible freshness of everything. It really does make my day so much more delightful. The staff is consistently very kind and cheerful, which definitely shines through in the quality of the food they serve.The vibe outside the music. Everything about this establishment is just how businesses should be run, especially in the food industry and I commute about an hour and a half each way this stop makes my drive so much better. “A pure delight. Terrific homemade food that is fresh and filling. I love the rockfish sandwich, which I order open-faced next to a seasonal salad and a fat slice of cake. The coffee is strong and they also serve beer and wine. I can’t wait to try a warm plate, there is schnitzel, kugel, pasta … A little piece of me died when Gaumenkitzel closed, but my heart is healing at Anja’s.“

“Every Table meal subscription is amazing. Delicious, healthy foods at a very fair price. 5 dinners only $38. The best part is my area has brick and mortar stores where I just walk in and buy my meal prep for the week...Meals cooked in a local kitchen by real chefs with local fresh ingredients. I'm busy all the time and although I love cooking it's hard to cook for just one person. The majority of meals are 600 calories or less. An easy way for me to stay in my calorie deficit. I just had the chicken schwarma bowl and it was soooo good. Tasted just like a home cooked meal. Highly recommend“

“The food was good, but there was a significant delay with my Snackpass pickup. My order number was incorrectly labeled, causing the food to sit on the counter for over 20 minutes until I spoke up about not receiving my food three separate times. No compensation, just an apology.

“One of my go-to sandwich shops on Solano Ave. Great paninis – can vouch for the shrimp & avocado, tuna, or vegetarian. Comes with a decent side salad and packaged in a convenient, highly portable, reusable, compostable box. Service can be a little slow at peak times, but not too bad.“

“The food was really good. The standouts were the Calamari Fritti, Caponatta, and the Cosacca. The Ruccola was the only dish that felt flat, but tasted fresh. Service was good and we luckily did not need a reservation. Would definitely return and it's recommended!“

“I study right across the street, so I’ve been eyeing this place and its momo for a while. Well… curiosity officially cured. The momo was a solid C—, like the grade you get when you show up to class but don’t really try. I ordered the mixed ones, steamed, and the dough was a bit chewy and torn.The portion was big, the filling was so mysterious I couldn’t even tell what I was chewing—could’ve been chicken, could’ve been my hopes and dreams.

On the bright side, the service was terrific and the food came out steaming hot.“

“One of the best restaurants in Elmwood (4/5 green stars) It’s so easy to walk right by Summer Kitchen without even noticing it. It’s a narrow shopfront with just a few tables outside and it’s easy to miss as you ponder ice cream and other offerings from neighbors. Well, take it from me – forget ice cream and get a baked item from Summer Kitchen instead! Or try a pizza, or an egg salad sandwich – possibly the best egg salad sandwich you’ll ever have. But if you are limited for time, try one of the fresh fruit pastries (galette) – they seem expensive at $12 but they are big enough for two and totally worth it! I’m giving Summer Kitchen 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. The positives are obvious – most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Everything is made from scratch and there is transparent sourcing of the meat and fish (Mary’s free-range chicken, etc.). There are a reasonable amount of vegetarian options and you can definitely find some vegan dishes too (salads, sandwich, pasta). Summer Kitchen could make the biggest environmental impact by scrapping beef from the menu – replacing it with plant-based alternatives, ideally. Beef has a carbon footprint of around 10 times that of chicken and over 100 times that of pea protein, on average. If everyone one the planet ate 1 lb. of beef per week (the US average), total greenhouse gas emissions would increase by one third! I’ll write a post illustrating all of this soon on the Green Stars Project. So I really appreciate that Summer Kitchen makes more effort than the vast majority of restaurants on improving sustainability so that’s my suggestion for the biggest opportunity for improvement – cut the beef.“

“This is a quick serve onigiri restaurant in downtown Berkeley. It's awesome to be able to get fresh onigiri in the East Bay and they include edamame as well. We split a plate of 3 and got the short rib(x2) and the unagi. Very small inside the restaurant, very much a get your food and go type place, but there is some room to eat standing up. They were quick, well priced and delicious. The perfect quick bite.“

“I'd say the pizza is pretty darn good. And the service was excellent also. I had a plain cheese pizza then style done extra well done. My friend had a barbecue chicken. Both were outstanding. Service was also top-notch. Dining room is clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are also clean. Convenient free parking on a Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. All around a positive dining experience. Also note, although not this particular Zachary's, but the Oakland Zachary's provided pizza for a recent work event. Pizza was fantastic. Everyone loved it.“

“I have used the Berkeley location for a few work events since they have opened and they have been amazing. Not only do they make it an easy process to place orders, but I feel the different catering options are great for all types of meetings and events. Specifically with my most recent meeting, they really helped me out because the online system said my order couldn't be ready at the time I needed it. But when I called to talk to them they were able to accommodate the time frame and my order was ready on time. Really appreciate the help and the food is always a hit! Thanks so much!“

“Ordered carne asada special/super burrito. Order was ready fast even at lunch. It was delicious and well-proportioned. It’s not as big as burritos have been trending lately but the price was right and I was barely able to finish it. Can’t wait to go back!“

“I realized that over the years I had accumulated over 7,000 points and decided to see what I got get and to my surprise I was eligible for a large spealty pizza of my choice for 4,500 points and I got a couple of ice cream deserts too for 1,000 points each however when I tried to put the order through a little pop up sign comes up and says I need to spend at least $14 or $15 to have my order go through. This got me upset because why have all these points for if you are going to charge me anyways so instead I wrote out some feedback and left the site. To my surprise a staff memeber called me back and made things right all I did was pay for the delivey service at $7.50 which was totally understandable and I got all the stuff I wanted. Cheers to the manager and the staff who took care and made me feel like I was important so now even more so I will continue to be a regular customer and of course their pizza is great! “We live in this neighborhood and if you know the North Shattuck and Northbrae Neighborhoods, there is no shortage of walkable dining. We just love Jerusalem Organic Kitchen for a consistently well prepared meal, friendly staff, and really good ingredients! They serve a quick, casual, healthy, and absolutely delicious meal. Everything we have tried is great with balanced seasonings. My personal favorite is the Shawarma Platter. Don't miss the perfectly prepared salmon platter with a generous serving of salmon that won't set you back an arm and a leg. The salad with chicken shawarma on top is great too. And they, of course, prepare a great middle eastern platter and falafel platter. And if all you want is a sandwich or burger - you won't be disappointed. Get the idea? We like their food and for good reason - they don't try to be all things to all people - they do middle eastern cuisine and do it really well. Try it - you'll like it!“

“Stopped by this café in Berkeley and loved it. The place has a warm, relaxed vibe with just the right amount of buzz from people studying and chatting. The coffee was excellent—smooth, rich, and clearly made with care. I tried their cappuccino and it was perfectly balanced. The staff were friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy what they do, which adds to the atmosphere. There’s plenty of seating, good Wi-Fi, and a nice mix of indoor and outdoor spots. “Tender Greens | Berkeley has become a go-to place for occasional food delivery & dining in house in the mid-afternoon. The food is tasty, fresh, & plentiful—consistent—& always tastes good. Chefs develop interesting & tasty seasonal menus. I have explored a number of plates & bowls, especially savor the greens & seasonings that go alongside the entrees. Have enjoyed chicken, salmon, beef, & vegetarian options as well as all the sides. Sandwiches & salads are delish. As is the mint lemonade & watermelon fresca. The place can be hopping or not, & the service is top notch & personable, professional. They do robust to-go orders & have spacious outdoor garden seating. Sure wish I’d discovered it sooner!“

I ordered a Caesar salad, and it was fresh and tasty. My son got the Margherita pizza, and we all enjoyed it. “On June 22, 2025, it was the day my mother passed. My daughter and I had my aunt's and my cousin's support at the hospital. Later that evening after we left the hospital, my cousin wanted us to join him and my aunt for dinner and we headed to Alborz in Berkeley. Fantastic Kebab place. Dinner was delicious. I ordered the Koobideh, which comes with 2 skewers of kebab, rice, and a tomatoe. My daughter ordered the Sultani, which comes with one meat skewer and one chicken skewer, also with rice and a tomatoe. I have taken some photos for you to see how beautiful the platters are. Service was awesome as usual. My daughter and I have dined at Alborz before and we have never been disappointed. There is also music playing while dining.“
