“Amazing, flavorful, and fresh. Anja’s is the best place to go for lunch (get the schnitzel sandwich)!! Housemade drinks are also so flavorful. Ambience outside in the rose garden and service cannot be beat. Definitely a must try in Downtown Berkeley.“

“My favorite food to get delivered on DoorDash. Everything is delicious, no matter what the daily menu will be. I like the fact they have options to get smaller pick and choose items as well as having fresh rolls and momos, which the other similar Tibetan places don’t offer. “Every Table meal subscription is amazing. Delicious, healthy foods at a very fair price. 5 dinners only $38. The best part is my area has brick and mortar stores where I just walk in and buy my meal prep for the week...Meals cooked in a local kitchen by real chefs with local fresh ingredients. I'm busy all the time and although I love cooking it's hard to cook for just one person. The majority of meals are 600 calories or less. An easy way for me to stay in my calorie deficit. I just had the chicken schwarma bowl and it was soooo good. Tasted just like a home cooked meal. Highly recommend“

“This place is absolutely incredible! I ordered pizzas for a big family ranging from 12 to 90 years old and we were all ecstatic!
I love the way the ginger comes through in the tandoori. The plain cheese is like a little black dress; goes with everything and everyone loves it! The old guy kept saying, “This is delicious!” and the kids gobbled it up.
It was also lovely to meet the owner. This is going to a new family favorite for sure!!“

“Honestly one of the best pizza crusts I've ever had. I had the focaccia spring special pizza - with squash blossoms and burrata. The Pear Basil Gimlet is one of the best mocktails I've ever had. The brussels are dark brown and crispy and melty. Plus - LOTS of gluten free options!
I rarely have a meal where every single part of it is delicious. This place is a treat, I'd highly recommend it.“

“Nice large TV screen for FIFA World cup viewing. Great Halal food. Recommend the chicken Shawarma wrap. Everything is fresh and price is very decent. Wish they had more seating but plenty of space to hang out with the boys and watch soccer if youre into that.“

“Honestly I love the food, the interior, and the menu - the food is delicious, creative, a little upscale feeling and clearly a lot of attention and care is put into it from ingredients to preparation. I love the variety and seasonality, and it’s one of the few places where you can get those delicious little coconut griddle cakes, and things are easy to share and portions are nice. AND your thai coffee/tea is made with CONDENSED SWEETENED OAT MILK!!!! WHAT?! (I cannot do dairy so this is the best news ever)
Interior is super charming and the seating is very comfy and bathroom is clean, cute, service is always friendly and the staff presents well. My huge gripe - believe it or not - is the service is inconsistent. One time I went there when there was barely anyone in the restaurant, and only one person was working and, it took an eternity to get served. And then I went today, the restaurant was full, and there were two or three servers working, and literally we were getting interrupted every five minutes, asking if we’re doing OK, people coming to the table to pour water, telling us the kitchen is about to close, asking again if everything’s OK, too many concerns, etc., like too attentive to the point of not being able to have a conversation - insanely annoying. Also, the restaurant is quite small inside, and yet they blast music SO loud loudly that everyone is shouting to have a conversation, and because the space is small, you can hear your neighbors TOO WELL if they raise their voice even a little bit. REALLY ANNOYING when you’re trying to enjoy a cute lunch.“

“One of my go-to sandwich shops on Solano Ave. Great paninis – can vouch for the shrimp & avocado, tuna, or vegetarian. Comes with a decent side salad and packaged in a convenient, highly portable, reusable, compostable box. Service can be a little slow at peak times, but not too bad.“

“Really great food with a somewhat open kitchen and three small television screens playing news and sports. They have many pods from chicken biryani to paneer wraps with fries, a personal favorite of mine is the fried veg momo, another one being the paneer tikka masala with rice. The place may be small, but without doubt, I would eat this all three meals of the day and for a snack. Thank you.“

“Love this spot so much. Huge salads, good prices, refreshing smoothies. They use good fresh fruits and veggies. My favorite is sitting in the back patio on a sunny day. It's a bit quieter too than some other spots in the area that can be too crowded. Lots of nice natural light inside too.“

“This is a quick serve onigiri restaurant in downtown Berkeley. It's awesome to be able to get fresh onigiri in the East Bay and they include edamame as well. We split a plate of 3 and got the short rib(x2) and the unagi. Very small inside the restaurant, very much a get your food and go type place, but there is some room to eat standing up. They were quick, well priced and delicious. The perfect quick bite.“

“The pizza is really good and delicious for a good price and it's always hot not lukewarm not cold but hot even though sometimes when they deliver to my apartment it's hard for them to come to the call box and use the elevator so sometimes I have to go down there and get my pizza but other than that the service is really good and I'm going to keep ordering from them from time to time sometimes“

“I'd say the pizza is pretty darn good. And the service was excellent also. I had a plain cheese pizza then style done extra well done. My friend had a barbecue chicken. Both were outstanding. Service was also top-notch. Dining room is clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are also clean. Convenient free parking on a Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. All around a positive dining experience. Also note, although not this particular Zachary's, but the Oakland Zachary's provided pizza for a recent work event. Pizza was fantastic. Everyone loved it.“

“I had the opportunity to stop by Mixt in Berkeley yesterday while staying nearby. Having moved to another state some time ago, my go-to location used to be the Oakland store. I was pleasantly surprised to see Sam now serving as the General Manager — it was wonderful to see her and the excellent team she leads at this location. They are doing an outstanding job, and I look forward to visiting again whenever I am in town.“

“We live in this neighborhood and if you know the North Shattuck and Northbrae Neighborhoods, there is no shortage of walkable dining. We just love Jerusalem Organic Kitchen for a consistently well prepared meal, friendly staff, and really good ingredients! They serve a quick, casual, healthy, and absolutely delicious meal. Everything we have tried is great with balanced seasonings. My personal favorite is the Shawarma Platter. Don't miss the perfectly prepared salmon platter with a generous serving of salmon that won't set you back an arm and a leg. The salad with chicken shawarma on top is great too. And they, of course, prepare a great middle eastern platter and falafel platter. And if all you want is a sandwich or burger - you won't be disappointed. Get the idea? We like their food and for good reason - they don't try to be all things to all people - they do middle eastern cuisine and do it really well. Try it - you'll like it!“

“One of the best restaurants in Elmwood (4/5 green stars) It’s so easy to walk right by Summer Kitchen without even noticing it. It’s a narrow shopfront with just a few tables outside and it’s easy to miss as you ponder ice cream and other offerings from neighbors. Well, take it from me – forget ice cream and get a baked item from Summer Kitchen instead! Or try a pizza, or an egg salad sandwich – possibly the best egg salad sandwich you’ll ever have. But if you are limited for time, try one of the fresh fruit pastries (galette) – they seem expensive at $12 but they are big enough for two and totally worth it! I’m giving Summer Kitchen 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. The positives are obvious – most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Everything is made from scratch and there is transparent sourcing of the meat and fish (Mary’s free-range chicken, etc.). There are a reasonable amount of vegetarian options and you can definitely find some vegan dishes too (salads, sandwich, pasta). Summer Kitchen could make the biggest environmental impact by scrapping beef from the menu – replacing it with plant-based alternatives, ideally. Beef has a carbon footprint of around 10 times that of chicken and over 100 times that of pea protein, on average. If everyone one the planet ate 1 lb. of beef per week (the US average), total greenhouse gas emissions would increase by one third! I’ll write a post illustrating all of this soon on the Green Stars Project. So I really appreciate that Summer Kitchen makes more effort than the vast majority of restaurants on improving sustainability so that’s my suggestion for the biggest opportunity for improvement – cut the beef.“
“While in Berkely recently the family and I enjoyed some delicious sandwiches at this Mendo... I had the farm club on Gluten Free bread and it was oh so tasty. The staff was friendly and the place was clean and the food was delicious. Highly recommend and will be back,.“

“Huge portions, great selections of burgers, salads, sandwiches and drinks. Staff was fantastic, the food was fresh and the ranch was made in-house. It was our first time there while visiting Berkeley, I'll def come back. The prices were slightly high when I looked at the menu, but you absolutely get your money's worth.“

“OMG! I had the BEST sandwich of my life last night at Jazzcaffé! We came for a performance at The Freight and I needed something more than pizza and pretzels. I walked down Addison to this amazing cafe and ordered the Hen of the Woods mushroom sandwich on a toasted bagel. It was SO delicious in a greens marinade. I will go back to Berkeley this week JUST for another mushroom sandwich. Amazing chef and she is so thoughtful. Every person leaving the cafe raved about how delicious their food was. So if you are heading to Berkeley Rep, The Freight, or a Jazz performance - GO here for dinner before. Light fare fabulously delicious and highly nutritious.“

“Small little Mexican spot right next to UC Berkeley. Orders made fresh, and quickly! Generous portions and reasonable price. The burritos are quite large, so be hungry if you get one lol!
Popular place apparently, with only a few, two person tables, so seating may be scarce. Just a heads up if you plan to dine in.
A must try if you haven't before!“

“Tender Greens | Berkeley has become a go-to place for occasional food delivery & dining in house in the mid-afternoon. The food is tasty, fresh, & plentiful—consistent—& always tastes good. Chefs develop interesting & tasty seasonal menus. I have explored a number of plates & bowls, especially savor the greens & seasonings that go alongside the entrees. Have enjoyed chicken, salmon, beef, & vegetarian options as well as all the sides. Sandwiches & salads are delish. As is the mint lemonade & watermelon fresca. The place can be hopping or not, & the service is top notch & personable, professional. They do robust to-go orders & have spacious outdoor garden seating. Sure wish I’d discovered it sooner!“

“Ok so I’m going to be honest I actually did not eat here so I can’t truly rate the food. HOWEVER, i went quite late at night and asked to use the bathroom. They said yes and it was a very nice bathroom. There is also a courtyard outside of the restaurant with outdoor seating and shade. Very cute, quite comfortable. Highly recommend!“

“The Cornish chicken kabab here is absolutely outstanding. The meat is incredibly tender, juicy, and perfectly marinated with authentic Persian flavors. You can really taste the quality and care in every bite. It’s grilled to perfection—slightly charred on the outside while staying moist inside. Easily one of the best Persian dishes I’ve had. Highly recommended!“

“I have been wanting to try this place for a while, and I’m so glad I finally did. The food was very fresh and delicious, and reasonably priced for the quality. The braised lamb sandwich had soft flatbread, crunchy herbs and vegetables, a tangy sauce, and perfectly tender lamb. The service was friendly, warm, and the food came out quickly. Fava is a lovely lunch spot and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant lunch in North Berkeley.“
