“I have both the experience of working along side Urban Organics at many events as a vendor but also, Brittany is the one I hire when I'm entertaining. Her food is beautiful, vibrant, fresh and so good that I wish sometimes she had a restaurant too! I hired them for my daughter & son in law's anniversary party and her staff treated us like royalty! I couldn't be more impressed and it was worth every penny!“

“I come here 2 times a week. The staff is great!! Milly also knows my kids have a dairy allergy, so he always makes sure the drinks are made properly.
The quality of the macha is unmatched. It is whisked properly for each ordered drink.
The macha donuts are delicious and have a few great flavors.
I also have to give credit to the staff when they are busy and short handed. The staff has always kept their cool and balance taking orders and making them.“

“My boyfriend and I always come here when we’re craving for something delicious and healthy. I order the same thing every time because it’s so good. 😅 The Salmon with Quinoa is my favorite! I should try something else next time because my bf have tried a few different ones and he always end up liking it. I also love the chocolate chip cookie! Wish they sell a pack of 12 😂“

“I was really impressed and honestly my expectations weren't that high walking in. The wine list had options you don't see everywhere and the bartender actually knew how to talk about each one. My friend ordered the burrata and I got the steak frites, both came out fast and cooked perfectly. I'm picky about steak and this one was genuinely good, juicy and seasoned well. The whole vibe was relaxed too, not pretentious like some places around here. We ended up staying way longer than we planned just because it felt so comfortable. I'll definitely be coming back and already told a few people they have to try it.“

“Absolutely fantastic, this is about as authentic as you can get it. The golubtsi taste identical to my grandma’s, and while every borscht is different, this is certainly a good one. Definitely a hidden gem and I would encourage anybody curious about eastern european cuisine to come try it.“

“If you're looking for a unique taco place, yet can't eat meat due to dietary restrictions, ima put y'all on Tacos Oscar -- one of the BEST taco spots in the heart of Oakland. This taco place is to NOT be slept on!
As I approached this place, the one thing I really liked was how hipster and how modern they made their dining experience. They're really with the political times, but besides that, they take making tacos on a WHOLE another level.
Their tacos are a little bit on the expensive side -- but because they're artisan made, that's what MAKES it unique. I tried their vegan broccoli taco, drowsed with their thick peanut and soy sauce. The tortilla was made out of 100% corn and nothing more than that. In addition, their agua fresca is on point.“

“This is one of my very favorite restaurants in Martinez. I love the window seat when I can get it. Love the charming privacy it lends itself too. The service is amazing; especially if you get Darlene! She is friendly, efficient, clearly loves what she does! You are greeted as if your a long lost friend! The food is so fresh and very tasty. I've never had a bad meal in this place. They bring free bread with a balsamic dip to the table that is so good. I could drink the dip. Lol. Their CHINESE CHICKEN SALAD, DELUXE DUNGENESS CRAB MELT, GEMELLI PASTA WITH ROASTED SEASONAL VEGETABLES, AND THEIR COASTAL LINGUINI, (I substituted with chicken.) are some of my favorites. All theirs food is off the hook! Their prices are just slightly higher than the average; however, their food is great quality and they give a huge portion. They have live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. I've not been there on those nights. I feel quite confident that it just adds to the already charming atmosphere.
Just love, love, love this place.
If you only have one place to eat at in Martinez, this is it!

“Had the Italian style sandwich here..... Really solid sandwich. What really got me though is the cook gave me this fantastic in-house made habanero sauce then I just ended up dunking over every bite I was absolutely in love with it. Really cool to sit at the counter and watch them cook, chef was such a friendly dude and the server as well! Really enjoyed the vibe of just hanging out and eating my meal“

“Walked in on a Tuesday evening and the thin-crust pepperoni looked textbook — almost translucent in spots, with the cheese browned just right at the edges from a gas deck oven. The sausage came fennel-forward and crumbled, not pre-formed, which made a noticeable difference with each bite.
Prices sit around $17-18 for a 14-inch specialty, which is fair for the quality. The counter service was quick and patient, even when I asked for half-and-half toppings. The seating is simple — a few booths and tables with a clean, uncluttered vibe. No gluten-free crust here last time I checked, just the regular dough and a solid sauce that leans slightly sweet.“
“The gluten free cookies that actually taste great. Such a treat. Quality ingredients, not too sweet. The traditional gluten free Alfajores cookies are amazing.“

“A new contender for the best kalamata olive bread (4/5 Green Stars). It’s Day 3 of Shelterfest, sponsored by Coronavirus, and I was feeling kinda satisfied (i.e., less guilty than yesterday) after making an earnest attempt to work remotely. So I took myself off for an afternoon stroll and, landing in the vicinity of College and Alcatraz Ave, decided to pick up some bread if there was any to be had. La Farine was quiet and there was plenty of bread left, even at 4 pm. (So pop in to support them if you’re in the area!) I usually get their rustic baguette but this time bought a loaf of olive bread. The servers were super friendly and one asked me if I wanted some free pastries. Ya-ha I did! I scuttled home with my bag of goodies and heated up one of the freebies – a chocolate croissant (toaster oven, bake for 3-5 min). The croissant doesn’t look that amazing, I have to admit, but it tasted wonderful. Buttery, flakey pastry and just the right amount of good quality chocolate. Later I had the bread – I’m a big fan of Semifreddi’s Kalamata olive bread so the bar was pretty high. I have to say that it was up there with my favorite bread – it was a little fuller than the Semifreddi’s loaf, but that wasn’t a bad thing as I sometimes feel that I’m eating a lot of air with the latter. In summary, I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed La Farine before because I’ve gone there many a time. I recommend the three things mentioned above and also their Irish soda bread is really good and pretty authentic. I just found out that La Farine started out in this location in 1977 – almost as old as I am, said Bilbo. I'm also giving La Farine 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • It seems that they use conventional white flour and organic whole wheat flour. • Their website is lacking on information on ingredient sourcing (compared to, say Acme). I’d like to know more about their flour, eggs, butter, chocolate, etc. • La Farine donates leftover products to area food banks and senior centers • They also support Bay Area schools and other local causes • Their bags are made from post-consumer recycled paper and printed with water-based inks. • Most of the menu is vegetarian and some of the breads are vegan. “I had a craving for a good old fashioned Chinese lunch special. You know the ones that include maybe some soup if you're lucky rice and one entree. I saw this place when I had a few minutes to myself. I went in and ordered not expecting much but it was absolutely delicious! The soup was hot and sour soup which is one of my favorites. It was incredibly well done and then I had kung pao shrimp with stir fried rice. The rice was okay. Nothing special but my God the kung pao shrimp? The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the vegetables were crisp tender and the sauce was spicy enough to catch your attention without burning out your stomach or your throat“

Egg tart was so smooth, flavorful, and not rubbery. I want to know their secret to this! My other favorite item is the walnut chocolate chip cookie. Omg so decadent!“

“My favorite Easy Bay cafes for working during lockdown - #1, Hudson Bay One of the things I miss the most during lockdown is having a place to get coffee and work for a while – yes, I know I’m not alone there ;) So I’m going to share my very favorite places to work during lockdown – i.e., cafes that have a fair amount of outdoor seating (and preferably decent Wi-Fi coverage too). The Hudson Bay café was a fairly regular haunt for me during normal times, and during lockdown it’s running pretty well with lots of safety precautions: Perspex screens, sanitizer, and a window counter if you don’t want to walk inside. Staff members were super-friendly as usual and there’s always good music playing (it’s faint outside, so I could just barely hear The Smiths and The Weeknd drifting out through the side door). One thing to note is that the prices are very reasonable – my veggie burrito cost an amazing $7 (or maybe $7.50) – and it had guac in there too! And it was big! I also had an oat milk latte and a slice of pound cake and the whole tab was around $14. For comparison, I paid the same amount at another place this week for a coffee, cookie and plain croissant. Lockdown Stats: • Seating: There are about 6 tables outside and chances are reasonable that you’ll get a spot. If you’re stuck without a seat you can hang out on a bench outside the library across the street. • Bathroom: Another good thing about going to Hudson Bay to drink a lot of coffee – the bathroom is open! It’s surprising how many cafés have no bathroom availability after selling you a big old cup of diuretic! • Hours: Note that they close at 5 pm at the moment, not 6, but they’ll let you linger till maybe 5:30. • Weather: Hudson St. faces southwest, so it’s often pretty warm, even around closing time! • Budget: As mentioned above, Hudson Bay is one of the cheapest places around (esp. on College Ave.) to get lunch. I’m also giving the Hudson Bay Café 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on this: • Very longstanding independent café and community gathering spot. • Coffee beans come from McLaughlin roasters in Emeryville - another East Bay staple. • Some of McLaughlin’s coffee varieties are organic and most are bought directly from cooperatives or family farms that support communities. • It kind of goes without saying that plant-based milks are available – and raw turbinado sugar too. • The menu is a bit more traditional but there are a few veggie and vegan options. I think they’ll also make veggie/vegan mods to a menu item, if you ask, since everything is cooked to order. • There’s not a lot of info available about Hudson Bay’s sourcing of ingredients – my feeling is that the owners want to keep things as unpretentious as possible. Since it’s lockdown I’m not going to bust their balls over it :D • Waste is minimized pretty well, even during lockdown when most places are loading on the plastic. “This place serves joy by the cup and happiness by the bite. The coffee? Bold enough to turn any morning around. The tea? A perfect hug in a mug, no matter the weather. And the pastries? Golden, flaky bites of pure magic that might just ruin other desserts for you. The vibe is cozy, the staff is friendly, and my taste buds are still doing a happy dance. 10/10, would abandon my kitchen for this place again.“
