“I needed a Persian love cake made gluten free for my wedding, it was very hard to find someone to create my vision and make it gluten free, while still remaining authentic. I can’t believe how beautiful the cake was, my jaw dropped when I saw it. And the price was very reasonable. I’m so happy my coordinator found you guys!“

“We were gifted our first ever Bake Sum box. After trying just one bite of a Yuzu meringue bun I knew I needed more. Ordered our second BSB last week and shared amongst the roomies, huge hit. Well baked, not too sweet, great flavor combinations. 10/10 would recommend the Bake Sum box. If you can’t grab a box, you can grab al a cart day of pick ups just to tide you over until you can get a box 😋“

“Best bakery in the area and early morning lines are not just hype. Amazing bakery, get there early as they run out of everything quickly and lines form before they even open at 7am. Best croissant in the bag area, incredible and picturesque baguettes and levain. Parking can be tricky“

“I had an amazing experience with Crumble & Whisk! They catered a community event for me during the holiday season, and I can't wait to use them again! This Black-owned bakery offers the most delicious, fresh-baked treats with a perfect balance of flavor and texture. From the buttery, flaky pastries to the rich, moist cakes, every bite is a delight. The staff is warm and welcoming, making you feel like family from the moment you walk in. Their commitment to quality and community is truly inspiring. “A new contender for the best kalamata olive bread (4/5 Green Stars). It’s Day 3 of Shelterfest, sponsored by Coronavirus, and I was feeling kinda satisfied (i.e., less guilty than yesterday) after making an earnest attempt to work remotely. So I took myself off for an afternoon stroll and, landing in the vicinity of College and Alcatraz Ave, decided to pick up some bread if there was any to be had. La Farine was quiet and there was plenty of bread left, even at 4 pm. (So pop in to support them if you’re in the area!) I usually get their rustic baguette but this time bought a loaf of olive bread. The servers were super friendly and one asked me if I wanted some free pastries. Ya-ha I did! I scuttled home with my bag of goodies and heated up one of the freebies – a chocolate croissant (toaster oven, bake for 3-5 min). The croissant doesn’t look that amazing, I have to admit, but it tasted wonderful. Buttery, flakey pastry and just the right amount of good quality chocolate. Later I had the bread – I’m a big fan of Semifreddi’s Kalamata olive bread so the bar was pretty high. I have to say that it was up there with my favorite bread – it was a little fuller than the Semifreddi’s loaf, but that wasn’t a bad thing as I sometimes feel that I’m eating a lot of air with the latter. In summary, I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed La Farine before because I’ve gone there many a time. I recommend the three things mentioned above and also their Irish soda bread is really good and pretty authentic. I just found out that La Farine started out in this location in 1977 – almost as old as I am, said Bilbo. I'm also giving La Farine 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • It seems that they use conventional white flour and organic whole wheat flour. • Their website is lacking on information on ingredient sourcing (compared to, say Acme). I’d like to know more about their flour, eggs, butter, chocolate, etc. • La Farine donates leftover products to area food banks and senior centers • They also support Bay Area schools and other local causes • Their bags are made from post-consumer recycled paper and printed with water-based inks. • Most of the menu is vegetarian and some of the breads are vegan. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!“

“I look forward to every trip I make to the East Bay and especially the mornings, when I drive just down the road to this old school donut shop. They make donuts the way I use to like them as a child over 50 years ago. I especially love the apple fritters and the breakfast sandwiches, but all the donuts are great! If you remember the donuts of long ago, long before the Krispy Kreme and other modern gourmet donut nonsense, then give Alhambra Donuts a try!“

“My first experience with the house of bagels, but in the late 60s, I attended high school with one of the sons and also had my first Onion flat. After moving back from New York and year 2000 I was glad to see that they were still in business, And that whenever I am in and around always without hesitation, stop by to pick up some bagels or two or three🥰“

“It has been awhile since I last visited, but today I was instantly reminded of just how amazing this bakery is!
The staff are so so helpful and friendly. I took home two of their savory focaccia breads. Goat cheese, pine nuts, and green onion and kalamata olives and red onion. Warmed up in the toaster oven, they were perfection.
If you have never been here or haven't been lately, you should rectify that immediately!“

“The food and service were great. Fast, kind, and delicious. The interior space is definitely not a 5 atar dining experience. But for a place to sit and eat breakfast, it was fine. The selection was good, and the pastries were clearly made fresh. They did a great job making the food and drinks we ordered. Would definitely go back again.

“Wow, I’m so glad we found this place!
I ordered a Matcha ice cream crepe and my friends got Berry Bliss — plus an ice cream float that I didn’t get a pic of. The cashier gave us plates and spoon and said “You’re going to need this for when the ice cream melts!” Which was pretty funny and unexpected. It saved us though, because that ice cream will melt and drip from the bottom of the crepe cone.
10/10 taste! We got here at around 8pm, so it wasn’t too busy. They also have a little photoshoot area with props and accessories.“

“The cutest little coffee shop attached to the Claremont. The service was impeccable. Attentive, kind, friendly, and warm. The drinks were delicious. Plenty of little snacks for hungry mouths. Games for playing. My wife would get a soy cappuccino in a ceramic mug every morning. I'd get a hot tea with honey, and a chai with almond milk later. Prices were reasonable compared to how much shops nowadays. Excellent shop! Highly recommended!!“

“Best bakery in town. You get fresh croissants, bolillos, baguettes, and other breads straight from this factory. The ordering window is just an open door on the side of the building, just look at where people are lining up. The prices has slowly gone up over the years but its still worth it. 2 dollars for a huge croissant that tastes this amazing is a steal. You'll recognize their bolillos being used in a lot of banh mi shops all over the bay area, its their best sellers and for a great reason.“

“Been coming here for almost 30 years. Each bread is delicious, and come early if you want the best concha you've ever had (you must eat a concha when it is still fresh). “I had ordered Tals Sufganiyot for Hannukuh today, but ended up having to call and cancel because I was in a car accident on the way so couldn’t make it in time for their closing. They were kind enough to come have one of their team members hand deliver it to our house. Such a kind act on an otherwise bad day that you just don’t see businesses do anymore. And, not to mention, it was delicious!! Thank you for your Hospitality and we’ll be back soon ❤️“

“The morning buns are unbelievably good, the best pastry in there.
Of course the butter croissants, American butter or French butter, is the best you'll find in the East Bay.
The tiny round pastries with the dab of jelly in them are super good, very sweet, but super good.
Always a line to get in. Only three or four people can fit inside at a time to order.
A little inconsistent, one day the croissant was dry and crispy a third of the way in. Most other times they are very moist and just the outer layer crispy, so if it doesn't seem the best you've ever had one day come back another day and it will be.“
