Her cakes are an absolute delight, light and fluffy packed with flavor with so little sugar. The level of sweetness in Jaleh's cakes are so perfect and you never feel heavy after eating them. “We really enjoy going to the Rising Loafer. We go there frequently on the weekends for the eggs Florentine and veggie omelet. They have the best hollandaise sauce, even better than I can make myself. It's a very simple place with an outdoor patio right by Trader Joe's and a very nice bookstore. The service is good and the owners are pleasant and friendly. We've had plenty of good experiences here and recommend it.“

“I finally got to try Bake Sum! The bakery was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Because of the small standing room, it was sort of hard to tell who was waiting on their order and who was still in line. They also offer few gift items along the wall, including Taiwanese chocolates, matcha powder, greeting cards, and cute shopping bags just to name a few that I saw. There is no seating, but luckily Lake Merritt is close by, and the perfect spot for a picnic. On a Saturday you might also finding seat at the Farmer's Market a block away. We tried the jasmine milk bun, pandan milk bun, ube cookie, and a coffee. It was around 11:30am on a Saturday and they were already low on inventory (when I got to the front I hear them say they JUST ran out of sesame cookies and I ordered one of the last jasmine milk buns). Of everything I tried I liked the jasmine milk bun the most, it was quite fragrant (just the way I like my jasmine flavored things)! These milk buns reminded me of my favorite melon milk buns that I had in Japan. I have no idea if they make them here...but that would be a dream to have that right here in the neighborhood! I will definitely plan on coming earlier next time so I have more of a selection to choose from.“

“My birthday cake came from here this year, and it was magical. It had a passion fruit puree, and the sweet, tangy, acidity balanced perfectly with the rich flavors and delicious frosting of the rest of the cake. It was intricate, delicious, and I've never wanted leftover cake more in my life. Sadly, only one slice survived the night, many people went for seconds.Also, the bread is fantastic. A delicious herb focaccia with a soft interior (perfect with Kerrygold butter), nice crust with sea salt. Ridiculously good bread. Also got a brioche cinnamon roll today, cinnabon can eat their heart out. The owner was super nice too, and I can't wait to try more of her creations. “Starter bakery is a spacious, modern bakery located a block away from the Rockridge BART station. There is a lot of indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. Starter Bakery's pastries can be found in many coffee shops around Berkeley and Oakland but I was super excited to discover that they have a couple of their own locations. The service is quick and friendly. The staff go above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable. One day I went at 7:30AM and the scones were not glazed yet but the staff glazed one fresh for me. I go to Starter frequently and it is my mid-week sweet treat. Everyone deserves a little treat to get them through the week! Anyways, these are some of the pastries I've gotten so far: -Twice baked ham and cheese croissant: I was so blown away by this croissant. The croissant itself was flaky and served warm. On top of the croissant there is this delicious combination of ham, caramelized onions, a hint of Dijon mustard -Dried orange and cranberry scone (seasonal) This scone flavor is one of my favorites! There is a perfect balance of sweet, citrus, and freshness. The scone is moist and the glaze on top compliments each bite. -Raspberry Kouign Amann (seasonal) -Dried ginger and pear Kouign Amann (seasonal) Every Kouign Amann that I've had from Starter was delicious. The fillings have strong flavors and the pastry itself is crisp with a taste of caramelized sugar at the bottom. It is not overwhelmingly sweet and there is a pleasant balance of sweet/savory. I will continue to come back to Starter Bakery and next time I want to try their breads and sandwiches! I've been to a couple of bakeries in the Bay Area and Starter is a stand out.“

Location: the location is in a shopping plaza near sunvalley mall and diablo Valley College. The same plaza with happy lemon. Parking is easy to find in the area. Ambiance: smell of Filipino seniorita bread and baked goods fill the space. However, there is no chairs and tables. It only has space for the tables and chairs. Food: you don't need to travel to Hawaii to eat a good masala. Starbread has a variety of deserts like seniorita bread, mochi donuts, Filipino style donuts like bichu bichu. And masalas. Credit card is accepted if the order is more than 7 dollars. The ube msalas is delicious. Overall, come to this place if you miss Hawaii and want to Try filipino baked goods for a reasonable price.“

“We tried this bakery for the first time last week. The owner was really nice and friendly. We have a daughter and son in law that are vegan. We purchased vegan rice crispie treats and brownies. My son in law said the brownies were the best he has ever had and everyone loved the vegan rice crispie treats. I also purchased a few non vegan Oatmeal raisin cookies which I just loved. We also purchased raspberry jammies MAJOR YUMMY.... they had other fruit but we love raspberry. We had everything to go so I did not eat anything there. The bakery was very clean and well managed. I now have a great go to place for vegan and non vegan pastries and cookies.“

“This place has absolutely delicious birria tacos and consomé. This has been the only thing I've ordered from their menu (there's no other place I know of near me that serves these tacos) but I would also like to try their birria quesadillas. They're listed on the menu as "red tacos" and are about $15 for 3 tacos and the consomé is a separate extra cost. When it comes out fresh, the tacos are super cheesy and yummy. The building is very spacious and doesn't get too busy, so I always get to grab a table. In the middle of the restaurant, they display their desserts and pastries such as flan and alfajores. The restaurant is located in the Park and Shop surrounded by a lot of different Asian cuisines, dessert shops, and a grocery store. If you try parking close to the restaurant, that is the area that is the most congested, we always park in the back of the building.“

I scooped two prefix 4 course meals (beef patties, oxtail, blueberry blue match lemonade, and dessert of the day - a blue pastry & currant pastry) plantains, Accra salt fish fritters and mango turmeric peach cobbler. I wanted to try a little bit of a lot. The smell was heavenly, the portions were generous and the first bite made my eyes roll back. I can't imagine what this must taste like in person. This was the PERFECT pre Valentine's Day surprise dinner! Small but amazing touches that put this over the top: The salad had tomatoes and cucumbers, not just random lettuce. And the dressing was on the side (so we can control how much) plus it was well balanced in flavor. The oxtail was separate from the rice in its juices so the rice didn't get mushy and the oxtail was flavorful and juicy. The desserts were the perfect amount of sweet. It didn't taste like just sugar, you could really experience the spices.“

I saw this young woman cashier arguing with an older man as I was shopping. So when I went to checkout I tried to get into a different line but she said I was going the wrong way and to turn around and come back to her. I suggested that if they had changed the way the line works there should be a sign and she started arguing with me. When I asked about the cost of an item and plastic bags she again argued with me. I told her I wasn't there for a lecture. She left without completing my checkout and another woman came and finished it. I don't feel like someone who is working and having a bad day should argue with the customers. I would give one star for produce if I could, but overall it's a good market.“

It was a little harder to find and I thought because the front door is in a bit from the street. Entering there was a typical sour milk smell, but we know that's why it is with ice cream. The entry, and the premises is very nice, and the scooper was a friendly fellow. They also serve other things besides ice cream. We shared a double scoop of coffee, brittle, and Heath crunch. The coffee was really good but the Heath bar crunch was a lot more ice cream and not very many Heath bar bits. The double scoop with tip came out to nine dollars. We sat and ate our ice cream. The ice cream is really creamy.“

I bought 3 pies & OMG the lemon cheese is soooo good like something you'd taste in a Michelin rated restaurant & the sweet potato pie is also very very good I should've bought more perfectly sized & priced but more so the delicious fresh taste!
