With the waiters still wearing white jackets and traditional wood panel walls, it encompasses everything you could recall from great restaurants from the past.Dinner was great, we started with a Dungeness crab cocktail, followed by a perfect bowl of clam chowder. Our main course was a fresh steamed Dungeness crab covered in a yummy garlic butter. And for desert we had one of the best cannoli I have ever had! IMO, the Smoked Salmon Tartine and the Pressed Ham & Gruyère Sandwich are the can't miss highlights of the menu. The standard baked goodies like the Almond Croissant are also v solid. The big open seating space give me "easy like Sunday morning" vibes that you can keep going by swinging by Heath in the same building or just taking a stroll through the neighborhood.“

There are a few tables for you to dine in, but I find most people order to take out.I like the Simurgh kebab sandwich. The kebabs were delicious but what stood out for me was the Turkish bread. It's not like anything I've had before. It is grilled, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is probably my favorite sandwich bread now. Right away they told us there were reservations so we would only be able to eat till around 7:15ish, which was totally okay. The back area was very cute, and extremely warm with the heater.For the food, we got 2 pizzas - honey pepperoni and the one with mushrooms. They were both good, but the crust was the best part. And the honey pepperoni said spicy on the menu but wasn't spicy at all.For appetizers, we got garlic bread and burrata cheese salad. The bread was on the drier side, couldn't taste much garlic. I drive from the East Bay usually late night when my husband and I are craving phenomenal donuts. The donuts are extremely fresh, the times I've been here there has been an older gentleman making them and racks of donuts ready to be bought. Yummmmmmm. Just incredible tasty donuts. You can tell the oil they get made in is also very fresh, no after taste of old oil. Donuts are not super greasy. The service is magnificent! The first time coming here the woman was extremely helpful and kind. The second time a young man helped us and he had a great personality and energy. He was telling us some of the stories of the donut place. Really enjoyed his service! The ambiance is an old school donut shop with closed off seating area but looks very vintage. “Honestly, I always enjoy my experience at Pakwan. My go to is their cheese naan, which in my opinion is the best naan in SF, possibly the bay. I usually accompany it with either an aloo mutter, bengan bartha, or a chicken tikka masala. Something that goes good with naan and is scoop-able. The workers are super nice and show a lot of hospitality. I really like the ambiance and how the dine in experience is as well with the music they play and how It has a family style vibe that makes it really inviting. Overall, one of 16th streets best eats. “I loved the colorful and inviting aesthetic of this location. The gluten-free menu was also delicious! My husband and I had the plátano huarache with carnitas which was perfection! Loved the plátano substitute as the huarache base and the sweet tanginess of the pickled purple onions on top. The mole was also great although more of a spicy kick with a sweet chocolate finish. I thought it was interesting that the salad didn't have a dressing. I would have liked a house variation. The peachy mezcal cocktail has a great name and very smoky flavor - not much peach though. The service was fantastic! We felt very cared for especially given that there were two events happening the same night that we arrived. They fizzled out soon after 6:00 PM and it was nice to have some quiet during our meal before the next dinner rush arrived. There were colorful flower petals on everything and it made me so happy! Make sure to ask about how to get your parking validated at the restaurant. We parked at the Levi's parking lot during the meal, then went to Exploratorium after dark and the parking was free! “I still give this place five stars for their gluten free baked goods and take home lasagna but overall four stars because their service still sucks most of the time. I went by here recently on a Sunday morning before a meeting to grab something hot to eat. I love their hot pockets. However, it was 9:30 am. A number of people around me and I started to form a line. Some people asked the staff questions about the pastries and they answered while putting stuff out. None of the staff thought to tell us that they didn't open until 10 am on Sundays. After about 5 minutes of being ignored, I saw the small sign for their hours. I pointed it out to others and we all left. That was a horrible experience as I was hungry and now didn't have time to get something else before my meeting. On Pi Day, I came by and was pleased they had a number of pies available in different sizes. I picked up a small Chocolate Pie that was low in sugar and a small Cherry Pie. They were the perfect size for the three of us though they could have fed more people. We didn't finish the pies ourselves. The Chocolate Pie was yummy and perfect for me but my husband said it wasn't sweet enough for him. We all loved the Cherry Pie! We went back recently and picked up their pizza dough. It came with two rounds. They were awesome!!! We put on our own toppings and popped them into the oven. They came out delicious. I love their food. I just wish the service was better.“
“GC gets docked a star for two reasons: 1) limited access because the line is so long (reservations are only taken for parties of 6+) and 2) the kung pao chicken is disappointing. As an institution, GC has been the best Chinese food in the area for decades. It was once so small you could shoot an arrow from the front door to the back wall. Its corner spot now on Oxford & Bancroft is massive in comparison, so now more people can wait to get in. The space is modern and bright, but the food is thankfully not fusion or fanciful. The food is exactly what it says on the door: Great China. From the plump (but crisped-skin) potstickers to the mu shu pork to the spicy green beans to the Peking duck, it is deliciously predictable. When I order ma po tofu, I know I'm going to get silken cubes of tofu in a thickened shiny spicy red sauce with ground pork in perfect proportion. Service is as friendly as Chinese gets and effortlessly efficient and fast. Parking sucks; it's downtown Berkeley, people. But if my San Fran friends long to come here, you know it's worth the hassle.“
