“Very unique and interesting food. The tomato salad was amazing, and the guacamole and salsa was very good. We also enjoyed the rock cod tacos as well. Unique blend of spices and vegetables along with grilled fish. All food seemed fresh and reasonably nutritious.“

“Not long after my first-ever trip to Oaxaca, this beautifully renovated space opened and I was so happy to come and enjoy their top-notch Mexican cuisine. Their moles are better than any others I've found in the East Bay, they boast a wide range of delicious cocktails, and present a friendly, welcoming atmosphere to their patrons. Only recently did I learn they also run nearby Casa Latina and La Mision (both very good). Really a highlight of West Berkeley, and I wish then the best!“

“Such an amazing spot to enjoy! Their super burrito is HUGE and the tacos are a very healthy serving.
The lime wine margarita was a solid drink choice. The waiters here are so kind and happy to strike up a conversation and share a laugh with you.
The prices are great, the food is great, and the parking was easy!“

“Really nice location and atmosphere particularly if you sit outside in the evening with the light chains. Food was decent although I found the vegetarian options a bit boring. Although they do offer Nopales (cactus) which is pretty cool.
Vegetarian options: Idk a lot of the vegetarian dishes are just beans and some fried vegetables with tortillas in different form factors. The cactus is pretty good though, which puts it ahead of Gordos taqueria in terms of vegetarian burritos. The cactus burrito is my personal favorite.“

“I was craving Mexican food with my lady and did a quick google search and this place came up. Food looked good in the photos so I decided to give it a try. It’s a little off the grid from where most of the restaurants are but this hole in the wall will not disappoint!“

“I wanted authentic Mexican food and flair and I got it here, The shrimp burrito was loaded with sour cream, guac, cheese, black beans, salsa, etc was huge and delicious. The shrimp were giant, flavorful and grilled to perfection. There was a lemony flavor to the burrito which I really liked. Fresh vegies and grilled onions too. Mexican music!
Not a yuppie place at all. Down home, Nice friendly staff. Loved the outdoor seating, right on University ave, but you wouldnt know it with all the plants, foliage, and a beautiful red rose bush“

“Taqueria La Familia exceeded my expectations and was delicious! I got the Calazbaza burrito (rice, pinto beans, salsa, zucchini, and onion) and it was delicious! The zucchini was really well spiced and cooked. I was nervous it might be large pieces of steamed and poorly spiced zucchini (common in veggie burritos), but it was SO tasty. The burrito wasn't massive, but definitely big enough and worth it for the price--getting a quality burrito for under $10 is more and more difficult to find. I have only been here once and gotten the one burrito, but I'd definitely go back! It was nice to have an outdoor dining option even though Ashby and Shattuck isn't the best ambiance. Staff were friendly and helpful and the service was really quick.“

“Love this spot! Very generous portion sizes. Giant burritos packed with flavor. The carne asada is my favorite. Their guacamole is always fresh and every order comes with a small side of fresh tortilla chips. Ate here at least 5 times now and they’re consistently delicious.Additionally, their horchata is very authentic and delicious!“

“Our usual go to Mex place was closed for the holiday so I researched Google maps and found this place that looked interesting and more than a simple taco shop. What a great selection of the kinda Mex food you might crave. Very authentic food and so tasty. Our family loved it! We had enchiladas, carne asada wet burrito and carrot cake, with chips and salsa for a start. They serve alcohol! Good to know right? Just go! We'll be back ASAP!“
“Took my mother and sister in law for lunch and they LOVED it. My mother in law said who makes the salsa because she loves it?... It was hella good, they give good portions and it's at a great price. They also have great customer service. I will be back for some more.“

“The food is hella good and the prices are kind of reasonable and affordable not like the other taco places where everything is hella expensive and you don't get hooked up like this place big burritos with everything on it.. I always get my burritos with out rice that way u get more meat than rice.“

“It may not look like it but Wholefood makes some of the best pizzas around. The whole pizzas are made to order in about 20 minutes so you’re getting it fresh and hot. The staff here is also better (IMHO) than the folks at the Temescal Wholefood location.“

“I’ve lived abroad since ‘08, but I always make it a priority to make it back here every time I go home. The ground beef special burrito never fails me, and has tasted the same since I first started eating here in 2002. Just an amazing place.“

“Order steak super burrito, mostly refried beans, pretty much a regular burrito with sourcream and guacamole, not super. My first and last $6.00 mexican coke. The burrito was still good, just close to $21.00 for both. They did throw a few chips and salsa for free...“

“When I think “super” burrito, it usually means a regular sized burrito but with extra meat/guacamole/sour cream or salsa, so initially when we ordered 2 super burritos and the bill was 40$, I immediately thought it was pricey and hoped it was good. I was totally wrong about what I thought super burritos were here. I got the Al pastor super burrito, and it was as long as my arm ? it suddenly made sense why 2 burritos cost 40$. They are HUGE, and other reviews don’t mention how oddly huge they are and brush them off as just big burritos.Aside from just how big of a portion they are (I was starving at dinner time but ate just 20% of the whole burrito and my boyfriend ate roughly that much of his carne asada burrito too)We liked the Al pastor better between the two. The salsa was delicious too! Solid 4/5, and although the huge burritos took us by surprise we easily get 3-4 more meals each out of it which is hilarious but convenient.“

“Where do I begin? The owners are phenomenal! So kind and go above and beyond. Amy, in particular, is a sweetheart and did not hesitate to assist me with even the smallest favor. The food was delicious (I ordered the al pastor burrito and al pastor tacos ). The red sauce was a little spicier than I wanted, but thats not a bad thing as I prefer green sauce and theirs is sooo good!! I 100% recommend if you are in the area. They are also open pretty late, which is another amazing thing about this perfect little fusion restaurant. 10/10 for the food, service and overall experience.“

“I was super skeptical about this place being similar in quality of flavor/quality compared to San Diego Mexican Restaurants/burrito shops such as Robertos. The flavor of the carne asada was on point! The only thing that brought the experience down a bit was the quality of the guacamole and the thinner burrito. You can count on a SD carne asada burrito to be twice the width. The flour tortilla was not the same quality as SD shops, but tons better than the average Mexican places in NorCal. Their rolled tacos were close too, but super heavy in cheese versus guacamole which is opposite from SD. Another dish that could be elevated with better quality guacamole. Still better than not having it at all though! Or waiting until I visit SD. I will definitely order from this place again.“

“I work around the corner from Tacos El Rey and it's been the thing I miss most since we started working from home. By far the best burrito that I've encountered in the Bay Area. The carnitas is crispy and juicy and the pico de gallo is super fresh. Really friendly service and always reliable. Also a great price for MASSIVE portions. Really love this place.“

“The burritos here are some of the most flavorful and rich ones I’ve ever had. The carnitas are crispy and delicious. The shrimp burrito has just as much flavor but is a little lighter. One of the delicious things about this burrito is the inclusion of sour cream in the regular— the difference between regular and super burrito is just the size, not ingredients, so you can get all of the amazing flavor in a smaller size! The pricing is a little inconsistent— it would be good if they updated their menu so that it reflected their charges. There’s a dollar different here and there.“

“The epitome of a well operated chipotle. Amazing aroma of grilled meats waft through one's nose upon entrance. Then you're greeted by an incredibly kind and smiling tortilla station. The service was quick, courteous and exceeded expectations. Well managed, well trained, beautifully maintained. The best chipotle experience in the east bay by FAR.

“I love Gordos and have been going here for years. However, they keep filling my burrito with rice more and more, and tonight I had just three bites of bliss until I hit the remaining rice-only section of the burrito. I will never order with rice again. Gordos, can we just keep it to the good stuff and stop overloading with rice?“

“I’ve eaten here for lunch 1-2 times a week for the past two years - Comal Nextdoor is worth every penny. While it’s slightly more expensive than most food in downtown Berkeley, the key word is “slightly.” The portions are massive — I could happily split a burrito with someone else. The service is also really fast. Today, I got my burrito in maybe 2 minutes, I’d say the average is 4-7 minutes. Can’t recommend the chicken burrito highly enough, either.“
