They are are boiled potatoes that are sitting in a warming tray in water. They make your burrito a little soggy. Aside from that I would definitely recommend giving it a try.“

“This is a family run place with outdoor seating. The food is quick, fresh and tasty. Women members of the family are nicer than the men, who can be clueless and unhelpful. Sometimes the meat is recooked in the crispy tacos which are otherwise my favorite. The flautas are also fresh and good as are the refried pinto beans.I like this casual place a lot—you can buy Russian River Brew next door at Raymnond’s excellent pizza place and sit in the sun with the locals.“

On our way back to the hotel, we came by Cenote. It didn’t look like much from the outside. It only had a few small tables with hard stool-style seats, fast food style. However…. The food was incredible! The four of us had all a different dish, and all four dishes looked beautiful. The flavors were fresh and very tasty. No disappointment! If you are looking for a mid-range priced dinner with awesome flavor in that neighborhood, this is your place! We all paid less than $20 for a fabulous dinner. “I ordered the chilaquiles rojos with steak...they were excellent!
The sauce was not overwhelming with spice or hot, which gave me room to add just enough to make it perfectly right to how I like it. The tortillas had fresh taste and they were still crispy, even though the chilaquiles had plenty of sauce. The steak was good quality beef also.

Overall, the best chilaquiles I've had in a very long time. I will definitely come back again and based on this meal...I highly recommend it!

“I've been coming to Talavera Cocina Mexicana in Berkeley more times than I can count, and I can say with confidence they make the best mole in the Bay Area. The mole poblano is rich and dark with layers of chile, spice, and chocolate that taste like it's been simmering all day. If you want something with a little more kick, the mole guajillo is just as good, with a deep, nutty flavor from the pumpkin seeds. Get it with chicken or pork and you really can't go wrong.

The mole isn't the only reason I keep coming back, though. This is authentic Mexican food made with real care. The tortilla soup is perfect on a cool Berkeley evening, the tamales are moist and full of flavor, and the burritos are generous enough to share (though I never do). If you're a mole fan like me, try it in a burrito. It's a game changer.

Service is friendly, the food comes out fast, and the space has a warm, colorful vibe that makes it easy to settle in. Prices are fair for the quality and portion sizes you get.
