Don't miss Orinda's top Mexican restaurants, as recommended by Restaurantji.
“I have lived in Orinda for many years and this was the first time I've been to Maya Mexican Grill. I ordered 2 soft tacos and they were delicious. The food came out within minutes and everything was fresh and well priced. I will definitely be back.“
“Great little hole in the wall location. Food was good, the seasoning of the food is more Central American than the American Mexican food we see most often. Loved the deeper earth tones of the food.We both enjoyed our burritos immensely, and the customer service was wonderful. I would venture to guess it was the owner serving us.Parking was okay, music was too loud for us.Otherwise a very enjoyable experience.“
“Dear Taquerowhen my husband ordered my chicken burrito, light rice, extra cheese, sour cream, no onion, extra cilantro you made a face. . .when he apologized, you said, "no problem, everyone likes their burrito how they like their burrito." you then proceeded to make one of the top 5 burritos of my life. It was perfectionion! thank you, dearest Taquero, for putting your ideals aside and making my dream burrito. you're a real one!!btw, of you live in Oakland and have never been to Taqueria El Paisa just go. . . it is one of the best in all of Oakland.“
“I love the concept of this restaurant, the atmosphere and presentation of the dishes with do many delicious flavors . We started with the chicharrones with guacamole , the chicharron was a top for me!My favorite was the beef barbacoa empanada very filling and tasty, the cucumber & brusela salad was amazing so many flavors and very fresh. We also ordered the asada tacos, I like their special take with queso, guac and grilled onion. Super cute place and bar with amazing mezcal cocktails!!“
“Amazing restaurant, Service was awesome, pricing is completely reasonable and affordable.Atmosphere is cozy and very friendly. Brian the owner came to check on us and was hospitable and cheerful.Let's get to the good part. FOOD.I have eaten many plates of chilaquiles in my day and I can honestly say this establishment IS THE BEST I'VE HAD. The super burrito was perfect as well.If you haven't been here you are missing out.Well worth the visit, I will be returning to try the many other dishes that are offered.Great job Brian ◉‿◉PS photo is of the chilaquiles rojo“
“Went here last night after a friend found this place on Instagram, and we happened to be in town and tried it out. The atmosphere was so fun, really warm space heaters made it totally fine to sit outside at night, the inside looked super cute as well. The service was great and the food was divine. Standout dish to me was a spicy carrot appetizer, some of the most interesting and tasty food I’ve had in a while. A handful of vegan options, more vegetarian options, but even though it wasn’t lengthy, those dishes were so good it was fine by me!Vegetarian options: Although it isn’t a long list of vegetarian items, I am vegan and the dishes I did was were so delicious it’s worth it if those dishes sound at all appealing to you.“
“I eat everything and did not miss meat at all at this delicious restaurant. The food is as tasty as the pictures are beautiful. I can't recommend highly enough and can't wait to go back. I'm nearby now and only wish they were open for breakfast!“
“Great Mexican brunch place. I've been here several times, and have had the chilaquiles, blueberry pancakes, chorizo scrambled eggs, breakfast tacos, and breakfast burrito. All were exceptional. Friendly service, low key atmosphere. I will be back again -- and again.Vegetarian options: Veggie hash; pancakes; waffles“
“Getting anything from here is such a treat. The super burrito is massive and I usually split it with my girlfriend and still have half a burrito the next day. It’s as big as my forearm! Handmade tortillas on the tacos and the meat is seasoned and cooked perfectly, never chewy. The horchata is soo good too and they ask if you want ice, which is very nice. Even their salsas are exceptional. They used to have pickled red onions with habanero that was SO good to eat alongside but don’t offer that anymore which is a heartbreaking honestly…please bring it back!!!“
“Let's get straight to business... how was the food? 10/10. I got the Golden Burrito with steak. It was amazing! I let the staff know it was our first time trying it and they went into detail of how to enjoy it best with the different sauces they have available. It's also in a good safe part of town and provides clean indoor seating. Definitely coming here more often to try different items on the menu.“
“I stepped in during my lunch break. I almost got out of line because it was moving slow, but I’m glad I didn’t. The line was there for a reason. I had the barbacoa and it reminded me of the one my aunt used to make. It was amazing! Support this place!“
“Love these tacos, the salsas are excellent. They have fresh juices. I love the corn tortillas made by hand. Al pastor and shrimp tacos were so flavorful. My mom got the chicken taco... but said it was lacking flavor. The beans were very tasty.“
“First time here and they have bottomless mimosas until 3pm. You only pay $29.99 per person and get to play table golf and miniature golf. The place was packed and definitely good vibes! I ordered the Burria Tacos, they are good! The staff was friendly. The loves their food menu. Felt like it was versatile and prices are great! Bring your friends or the family and have a great time. There were kids there too! I recommend this place for sure!“
“My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area! Impeccable dishes with rich flavor and high quality ingredients, amazing cocktails, fantastic service, and a lovely interior with a couple of outdoor tables for sunny days. My favorites are the green enchiladas, chicken mole, and plantains - but everything we’ve had here has been incredible. I’m always shocked by how uncrowded this place is - people are seriously missing out!“
“I ordered a quesabirria taco and a burrito from here recently. The quesabirria was $5 for one that came with cucumber slices, one roasted jalapeno and one small cup of birria. It was amazing!! Really hit the spot in terms of flavor. The burrito on the other hand was good not great. It had a way too thick of a flour wrap around the burrito. I felt like I was eating a 30% flour wrap and only 70% filling. Otherwise, it was a good flavored burrito. I'll be back if I'm ever in the neighborhood for the quesabirria.“
“This place is a weekend go to! I like the Camaron taco most, and the Pollo tacos are really good too. I’ve tried nearly all the vegan tacos in Oakland, and this is my favorite by far.Heart and dagger is around the corner, and they let you bring in food, so that’s a nice option, or the live music at the farmer’s market Saturday afternoons.“
“Been to Mi Casita several times and unfortunately haven't taken the time to post. The food and service is awesome! I keep trying more dishes and haven't found anything I didn't like. I especially love the Birria taco's. They come with an au Jus dipping sauce but with a lot more flavor. The breakfasts are tasty and with the beautiful presentation you would expect at a high end resort restaurant. Staff is super nice and personable. I'd post more pictures but I tend to start eating before I think about it. Jim W.“
“Spectacular pastor regardless of delivery vessel - my favorite happens to be their decadent quesadilla, but you really can’t go wrong with any selection. Warm friendly and efficient service coupled with elite expertly prepared pastor amidst a hyper-authentic vibe.“
“I tried the lamb with cheese and sour cream, the Tropical grilled vegetables with cheese and sour cream I also tried the vegetable with cheese and sour cream. The grilled lamb was very good with a nice flavor, succulent and tender meat, I added the red sauce that was sweet and tangy, the Tropical vegetable was okay but was a little bland and was about the same as the regular vegetable. The vegetable s were nicely grilled still firm.“
“incredible spot to get delicious vegan and gf food, they have great politics and everyone who works there is hot ? the food is beyond deliciousVegetarian options: always so many delicious vegan options !!Dietary restrictions: great for any dietary restrictions i am vegan and gluten free“
“Best taco truck hands down! Ordered tripe, cow tongue, and beef tacos! Amazing flavor! The atmosphere is not so great as the truck is next to a dive bar. I get it, people get drunk and the food craving kicks in. Will be eating here indefinitely unless food quality changes. Highly recommended this taco truck! Street parking!“
“This was the cutest little spot! I believe this is a family owned business, and both the ladies working were SO sweet! I got chicken pupusas and they were sooo good!! Probably the best I've had! Not to mention, the prices were reasonable. This is 100% my go to pupuseria now. They even had this back from lg“
“I have lived in Oakland for 20 years and honestly, I have seen the reviews years back and always had it in the back of my mind to check them out since they were close. However, I never got the chance because I would always forget. However, last week, my daughter wanted churros, so I made the decision to finally try it out. OMG!!! Probably not the best idea because now we are addicted!! They were fresh and hot. My oldest decided to try the caramel filled one while my youngest and I got the plain. Well, they were crispy on the outside and soft and doughy in the middle. It was sooooooo good, we went back the next day and got more. Yikes!! I would have taken a picture but they never seem to last long enough for us to take a picture. Our first experience with churros was at Disneyland years ago and we fell in love but throughout the years, the quality at Disney started to decline and the price increased, and I wasn't a fan anymore. So, in my eyes, these churros here is IT!!!! Price isn't bad. $1.50 for each plain and $2 for ones with filling. However, I will note that the churros aren't like the super long ones but I think they are still fair with the prices and honestly, two of those were more than enough for us. The whole fam is completely hooked!! Check them out when you're in da town.“
“Flavor wise, always excellent. With inflation though, the prices keep rising and the churros are getting smaller for sure. I've been coming since I was a kid and was shocked at the size this last time. Still love this place though. There are other carts as well nearby, but I like this place. They take cash & card.“
“I stopped by here because it was "Crunchy Taco Thursday" and I was thinking it would be like the usual "taco tuesdays" where you get small tacos for a dollar.Well, the price wasn't $1 a taco. It was $3 and the tacos weren't small, they were regular sized. So that equates to about right. Price for portion.Now... the chicken and salsa... wow.. very delicious and the service was quick. Friendly staff too.“
“This food is always great. I live in Concord &I pass a number of Mexican food spots in ConcordTo come here.Dietary restrictions: It's your choiceParking: Parking has never been hard for meBut I do have handicap parkingKid-friendliness: Kids are welcomeWheelchair accessibility: It's great they have it“
“So good! Came in on my lunch and had a wonderful experience. Can’t beat a homemade tortilla paired with amazing service. Unfortunately she was in the process of making her spicy salsa (just means I’ll have to come back to have some) so I didn’t get to try it, but being the sweet human she was she grilled up some chile serranos for me!If you love authentic Mexican food then this is the place to be! Will for sure be coming back.“
“$5 parking in guarded lot a half block away due to street bipping. So sad we have come to this. Ordered vegan burrito and it was a ten. Covered outdoor tables. My friend had a different Mexican dish that they made a vegan version. All delicious and service was attentive.“
“On this holiday weekend traversing the Oakland hills and flatlands of Berkeley, enroute to destinations planned and discovered, this planned stop proved more credible the food reviews Tamaleria Azteca garned from the SF Chronicle. I bought six for a Jackson. Mostly a order and go venue though you could eat on the outside counter. Across is a bus stop where on this day, a bus traveler stood in the counter area making it "feel" crowded.Myself and another tamal foodie were the only other people ordering.“
“The first 5 times I went to this place it was great. The last 3 times I've gone here there's been something wrong with our order. The last two times we ordered super burritos the cheese is never melted. Just a big lump of cold cheese in the middle of the burrito. Also we seem to have gotten really overcooked carne asada meat. It was like chewing on leather. Our orders were to go so we didn't notice until we got home. Hopefully they shore up their problems in the kitchen. I'll still go back and order their food.“
“The food was very good, my partner and I stopped here before going to see a movie at the Regal Jack London and couldn't have been happier. We ordered one california burrito and split it and with the chips that come on the side it was enough food for both of us. Overall it is pretty cheap too, especially considering its location in the downtown area. Would highly recommend for a quick pickup and go or a dine in/date night.“
“I can't say enough good things about Low Bar! I hosted a holiday party here last night for a local professional organization, and Low Bar was the perfect venue. The staff are so thoughtful, organized, and attentive, and the food is fantastic. Low Bar is really the place to be if you want fun, casual vibes but high quality food. Their private room was perfect for a 30-person event. The price was reasonable for the high quality of food, cocktails, and service. Our guests ranged from graduate students to retirees, and folks from all walks of life remarked on how much they loved the location.Justin was our server, and he was the dream to work with. Friendly, professional, attentive-- he really made the party a success. I felt like I could just show up and Justin and the Low Bar would make everything run well.Their event manager Sam was also a joy to work with and made everything so easy. The location is perfect for public transit accessibility, and there is a parking lot across the street.Don't sleep on the churrros! The food here is amazing.“
“Perfect spot for #tacotuesday ?Got the al pastor tacos and inhaled them way before it even occurred to me to get photos and post a review. They were delicious, highly recommend! Al pastor burrito was good too.Edit : ordered in a bunch of times and LOVE the Al pastor burrito. This is my go to taco spot and my faves are the fried shrimp, chorizo and Al pastor. They don’t skimp on the filling, so 3 tacos is a hearty meal. Soooo good 10/10“
“Nice lunch spot. Dinnner is much more chill. Very clean location, always friendly & fast service. The food is standard fare, the flavors are right but not super spicy, probably to accomodate all clientelle. I appreciate the salsa bar & that Door Dash is an option. Always a good experience.Vegetarian options: 5 items.Parking: Busiest at lunch but shopping center is large.Kid-friendliness: High chairs and booster seats. Cups with lids. No kids menu.“
“I'm a proud torta snob and my BF and I have been on the hunt for a good one for ~6/7 years. On a whim we found this pace and love their tortas so much we don't order anything else for fear of missing the torta experience too much. We get the carne asada specifically and it's perfection. The bread is soft but slightly grilled so there's a nice crunch. The meat is ALWAYS cooked well, sliced thin, and flavorful. The veggies are fresh and the pickled jalapeño adds a kick. The bonus is the homemade chips with the salsa - just so good. I've eaten at least 7 of them and the quality and taste is consistent. I think it's the bread, honestly, that takes this next level. I wish I could buy their bread in bulk. Also, we've eaten in the restaurant only twice and the main woman who runs the show is the nicest person with the biggest smile. She is lovely. The whole staff is great and always smiling when I see them, too. Overall just a great place with tasty tortas (and I'm sure great food in general) and kind people.“
“We got so much more food than what’s in this photo including the Birria Ramen, Patecones, Tacos, Elote Riblets & Duck Fat Fries, Cheese &Beef empanadas…So delicious. Everything was so good. I think the birria ramen broth was a little too heavy for me, but other than that, the food and vibes were phenomenal.“
“Pulled off the freeway right after landing in Oakland and got these super seasoned tacos that hit the spot! It was midnight in a sketchy part of Oakland and parking was scarce, but the service and food was worth it. Bag came with some jalapeños but I forgot to ask for salsa and they didn't throw any in the bag. It was good and I'd definitely come back to try their burritos. They look really big and they aren't cheap but I'm sure they are good too.“
“Had a veggie taco and a chicken taco. My friend had the mole enchiladas. It was all good, but my standards are high for Mexican food. Would have been nice to have some salsa with the chips and guacamole. Everything needed salt. I'm not sure why I tipped 20% for just bringing food. It's very cold everywhere in the restaurant.“
“Like other reviewers, we found this place unexpectedly - after an Oakland A’s baseball game, in our case. What a gem. The owner/chef is delightful, offering all standard Mexican options with no set menu. The food was fantastic. My husband’s shrimp burrito was chock full of shrimp. I’m vegan and had 2 (large!) yummy pinto bean tacos. A little Spanish will go a long way, though the owner understood most of what we said. Our meals averaged $12/person. I highly recommend and will come here again when in the area.Dietary restrictions: The Pinto beans are vegan.“
“Thad a fantastic experience at Alma Bar Cocina in Oakland. Their tacos are packed with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the service is consistently warm and welcoming. The owner makes you feel like a regular. Definitely try the fish tacos and the soup both were incredibly flavorful!“
“First time here and it didn't disappoint. Ordered an al pastor burrito and it was probably the best one I've had in the area so far; the salsas are great as well. Everything came out quickly and the inside was clean and orderly. Service was great as well, the cashier was very kind and was happy to answer any questions we had. Definitely coming back!“
“Nice little hole in the wall Papuseria. The food was delicious, especially the fried plantains! We ordered a wet burrito, different types of papusas, yuca frita and plantains. Let's just say, all my kids gobbled down their food w no complaints (unheard of).Service was fast, friendly owner and cooks. Def not a sit down restaurant type of a place. It is more for dropping in and having a quick bite or getting your food to go.Parking: Parking available in front and on the side of the restaurant. It is not located in a place where there is heavy foot traffic or shops etc.Kid-friendliness: It's very laid back.“
“The food here is the best! Made with love this is as good as it gets absolutely delicious 100% AUTHENTIC MEXICAN food that stands out from the rest with excellent service, Emma has ran this business for over 40years as confirmed by a pregnant long time customer who shared that she is from the 4th generation in her family that eats here. I strongly recommend La Mexicana!!! Gracias Emma“
“Do yourself a favor and eat at Juice Joint! The menu has all your favorites accommodated by a charming inviting atmosphere! I had a burrito and I recommend that and the cheese steak fries, the sandwich options were all tempting and the cheese steak menu and the smoothies were awesome ?. The food, service, and atmosphere is fantastic!“
“I came here with a few of my friends. I split a dish of whole fried fish and carne asada tacos with my friend. The fried fish was done well but it had not much flavor. It wasn't seasoned and no salsa sauce to go with it. But I have to say the carne asada tacos were one of the tastiest that I've ever had. This is a Mexican restaurant on Solano ave so the prices commensurate with the location. It has indoor and outdoor dining, very pleasant.“
“A few people in line ahead of me when arrived. My friend and I had looked at the menu and photos on Yelp ahead of time and honestly it didn't help. There were so many delicious looking items. Person at the window took my order, was super clear and precise. It took a bit of time to get our order. There were probably 6 orders ahead of ours, and it took maybe 10 minutes? It felt longer because it was cold outside lol thankfully there are tables. It wasn't loud, patrons are decently quiet. Just normal East Oakland traffic sounds. Everything I ordered was delicious. The asada and birria tacos, and the sope. Will definitely be returning to try other items. Especially the burrito. That looked real good.“
“The Best Carne Asada Tacos in Martinez. I just ordered 3 carne asada tacos and oh my goodness. It was delicious. The taco shells were soft and I got the mild flavor. Just great. Also the register lady was very nice and courteous. Awesome job guys. Keep up the great work. Thank you.. this is my new spot for Carne Asada Tacos in Martinez. ?“
“I went to both the scarbs food truck and the subi and both times ughh, it’s been SO good! And I’m picky, the flavours were immaculate, soft beef, and the consume was delicious. It’s addicting and so worth the price ? very friendly service “
“I really missed MexiCali Rose. So this was the only Mexican place I found that served ground beef. Margaritas do the job. College town with decent parking. Food is good like home style.Vegetarian options: Some vegan items or can request special orders.“
“One of the best taco spots I've had in a while and wish there was a location closer to me! Even the plain ol rice and beans had me and I'm not even a rice and beans kinda person. Also, I'm picky when it comes to horchata and they have one of the best! Staff is also so friendly!! 10/10 im definitely coming back any time im in the area!“
