He was friendly, social, and made the experience feel like a true pastime with great conversation and energy. He also recommended some incredibly tasty dishes for us to try, which made the meal even more enjoyable.

“This was a surprise dinner my friend invited me on. The hand rolls are so fresh and delicious. I had 5 amazing rolls that come out one at a time for freshness m. The server was super sweat and helped me pick out what I wanted. The menu does also have set options, but I decided to do individual rolls. “Rolled up at 7:20 AM on a Saturday and found parking very easily on the street in front and practically no line. Caneles weren't available but I don't know if that was because someone had managed to clean shop in 20 minutes or they weren't ready yet. We got:

Quiche Lorraine: excellent, stood up well to microwave reheating and really appreciated the saltiness from the ham, was a full meal with some fruit and a slice of the walnut loaf on the side

Chocolate almond croissant: excellent texture and sweetness

Pain au chocolat: it was good but probably wouldn't buy again simply because I think other things taste better and are more worth the calories/money

Cardamom and walnut scone: my sleeper hit, ordered it because I saw someone else raving about it and wow wow wow so unassuming looking but maybe my favorite?

Ham and cheese cup: my husband's favorite; I had doubts about the hard boiled egg inside as I'm not generally a fan but it wasn't chalky in the slightest

Walnut bread: texture is perfect, soft yet with great body, one of the best loaves I've had in a long time

Caneles: didn't buy this time but have before and they are *chef's kiss*, perfect little hint of alcohol, burnt (but not bitter) sugar taste

Also bought Paris-Brest but that's for dessert tonight.“

Black Cod was okay, my husband enjoyed it. The cod was cooked perfectly and the potato cake had just enough crunch on the outside nice and moist on the inside. Beautiful dish 🙂
Waygu beef va de vi burger was “okay” the brioche bun that it was served on was saturated with butter and it wasn’t the freshest as it crumbled when I cut it in half.
Brussel sprouts were very good flavored with bacon, walnuts and lemon, absolutely delicious 🙂“

“How am I the first person to review this place?? Laura is one of the best in the industry. For those that don't know, she was the right arm for Toni Gemignani, arguably the most famous pizza maker on the planet, through a whole bunch of his concepts since the beginning of both of their careers. She opened her own place in Berkeley and it's great to see her continuing to thrive at the level she did with Tony. Also the food is really good. The sleeper here might be the pasta which gets as much love as the pizzas.“

“We often bring out-of-towners here because it's hard to find Laotian food outside of the Bay and Vientian Cafe always delivers. The menu is super extensive and very reasonably priced, so you can try a bunch of new things each time. We always get the nam kao and the lao sausage (which you can also take home frozen). Angel wings are also super addictive.

Food also travels well if you're looking for takeout. One of our favorite spots in the east bay!“

But I was lucky to find this little Chinese vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown. I ate here every day for lunch. It’s sort of a dive which I actually liked but the food is great and the service is good and it seems clean if outdated and messy. I would highly recommend eating here or even delivery. It’s excellent Chinese food with a good variety of dishes and you can have a tasty meal without having to kill our innocent animal friends.“

“This is a cozy little Thai spot that completely changed my perspective on Thai food. I was never particularly drawn to Thai cuisine before, but this restaurant gave me a genuinely new appreciation for it :-)

My usual order is the Garden rolls, Spicy basil wings, and Pad thai. The Garden rolls are refreshingly simple, there’s no protein competing for attention, so you can actually taste the vegetables themselves. The dipping sauce is restrained rather than overpowering, which makes the whole dish feel nicely balanced.

The spicy basil wings are probably my favorite. The sauce is flavorful and remarkably well balanced, with just the right combination of savory, sweet, and aromatic basil notes.

The pad thai, with both shrimp and tofu, is substantial enough to make a satisfying meal on its own. My one consistent complaint, however, is the seasoning. It tends to be quite heavy-handed, with more sauce than I personally prefer, and I almost always find it too salty. I think a little less sauce and a more generous amount of vegetables would make the dish significantly better.

Overall, though, this has become one of those places I keep coming back to, which says quite a bit considering I never used to be much of a Thai food person.“

“Fantastic, flavorful, juicy high quality Chicken Verde and Pork Verde Burritos. They got my special request of no sour cream and extra cheese perfectly. The guacamole inside was so fresh, as was the rice, chicken, and whole beans and real Monterey Jack cheese. This is our new go-to spot for excellent Mexican food. And very good prices and service!“
