Top notch drinks and our waitress had great recommendations. The fries were so surprisingly good that we ordered another and came close to getting a third portion…

ABV Bar in San Francisco is a hidden gem for spirits lovers. They’ve got super cool, fairly priced selections across the board—food, wine, beer, mezcal, bourbon, Japanese whisky, and scotch. The owners are incredibly friendly and accommodating, which makes the vibe even better. If you’re a die-hard whisky nerd, I’d recommend bringing your own Glencairn glass, but otherwise, you’ll be thrilled—especially with the amazing old single cask Springbanks they pour at great prices.

Solid choice for cocktails and casual food at reasonable prices. Extensive drink menu with knowledgeable bartenders who take time to explain their creations.
Tried several cocktails - the one with carrot juice was surprisingly delicious and well-portioned. Ahi tuna tartare ($19) with sesame chips was fresh and tasty.
Food is casual but good quality - perfect for date night or hanging with friends. Not fancy, but that's exactly the vibe they're going for.
Will return to explore more of their cocktail menu.

Rancio and tonic was very nice. Against my general principle to spend $18 on any cocktail though so I didn’t; there are a few options where this is possible

I went to ABV once several years ago and it was absolutely fabulous. The food, the drinks, the whole thing. I went back a couple weeks ago for drinks and was treated like Julia Roberts was when she went shopping at that first place.. you know, the one she walked by after spending tons of cash at another store and said "big mistake...huge". It was like that. Every employee we encountered that evening was nothing short of rude, unwelcoming, and downright offensive.. AND we paid roughly $25/ea. for cocktails that were uninspired and pretty boring if I'm honest. There are FAR better experiences to be had in SF, so I certainly won't be returning to ABV for another one that left me feeling robbed and rejected.. no thanks. Wait, where's the negative-12-star button bc I certainly don't feel like they deserve one.

The drinks were great. But I got a weird vibe. As I and other patrons walked in around 1am, I was confused to see disappointment and disbelief on the bartenders’ faces.

At first I thought it was just me imaging things, but after several other patrons wandered in to the same reactions and even verbal comments between the staff, it was just a weird vibe. Probably a long day, but generally made me feel unwelcome.

The drinks were great so I’ll probably come back sometime again closer to opening, but I’ll make sure to not show up an hour before closing. It’s a shame because the vibe here is otherwise exactly what I want at that hour.

The food and drinks were good, but the servers were very rude to me and my friends, almost to the point of being mean: one of them made fun of my voice when I was ordering a beer. I would not go back.

The food is average—it's just bar food, nothing special—but the drinks are outstanding, and the atmosphere is on point. I love the theme—very dim.

ABV is a good neighborhood bar! It was busy on a Saturday night, but my friend and I were still able to find a spot to sit. It gets pretty loud and it's dark inside, but it's still possible to have a conversation. Staff were very friendly & helpful and the drink I had was ok. The cocktail I had didn't blow me away, but it was a good drink to sip on while chatting. Parking here is nonexistent, either walk or get an Uber/Lyft/Waymo (which you should be doing anyway, don't drive under the influence!) This is a solid choice for having a drink and catching up with a friend in the neighborhood.
