DeClucks Chicken Sandooooooo so good!: A Culinary Masterpiece in the Heart of the City
As a self-proclaimed foodie with a penchant for cooking, my forays into the dining scene are reserved for places that promise something beyond my kitchen’s capabilities. Value and visual appeal dictate my choices, and on this culinary quest, I found myself steps away from home at the much-acclaimed local gem, Delancey Street’s chicken Sando haven.
A welcome new addition to the neighborhood, the buzz around their iconic Sando, with its claw-foot presentation, finally lured me in. Lauded by “Locslish,” SF Chronicle, ABC7, Fodors Travel Guide, and Restaurant Business Magazine, my expectations were sky-high.
Deciding was tough, but the DeClucks - Classic Yeast at $16.00 called my name. A masterpiece melding the best of a fried chicken sandwich and a cheeseburger into one delectable ensemble. Nestled within a potato bun, the fried chicken came alive with crisped melty cheese, fresh tomato, red leaf lettuce, tangy kraut, and a zippy mustard sauce that danced on my palate. Opting for the combo with fries and a ginger ale soda, I was set for a feast.
Total price $26 w/ tax+tip
This wasn’t just any chicken sandwich; it was possibly the best the City has to offer. Perfectly battered with a harmonious balance of thickness and crisp, the flavors were robust, complemented by a hefty, natural chicken piece. The addition of the zippy mustard sauce was a stroke of genius. The waffle/cross-cut fries didn’t lag behind, seasoned to perfection, though the chicken and fries could have been much warmer and would’ve made it even better. There is no excuse to not have piping hot food served especially given the quiet the place was.
Despite its popularity on delivery apps like Caviar, the physical space on a Friday night was surprisingly serene, bathed in soft lighting with an earth-toned, wood-themed décor. Immaculately clean and organized, the only interruption was the classic rock tunes playing at a comfortable yet conversation-challenging 79 decibels.
Delancey Street’s offering is not just a meal; it’s an experience, a delightful surprise that tickles the taste buds and leaves you yearning for more. I’m eagerly anticipating my next visit, ready to dive deeper into their menu. For fellow foodies seeking culinary adventures that look as good as they taste, this spot is a must-try. Your palate and Instagram will thank you.
I’ll be back!
The second time I decided to order from home.
This time got the bird box 1/4 chicken which I’m excited to try.
The only other suggestion is that I wanted to tip in person so I zeroed out my tip as it was for pick up. I kinda old school and believe tips are performance based and not mandatory or should be expected no matter what service is given. Anyway their square site system too 20% even though I put 0% as I was bringing cash with me. My only recourse now is to hope I get 5-Star service and if I don’t it will be reflected in my review below.

Amazing chicken sandwich. Perfectly cooked, just the right amount of toppings, and the sandwich held together perfectly. The story of how this place started is really cool, too. Will definitely be back!

I just ordered from this place on DoorDash (05/04/24). They forgot the root beer that I was charged for (but didn't make it onto their version of the receipt?) and they shorted me three tenders despite the description saying six.The box and bag were sealed, so I doubt the dasher was involved. The food was okay. Fries and tenders are both cold despite having a short travel time and short prep time, so again I doubt the driver was involved. Likely, they just have a bunch of food pre-made and not kept warm very effectively. In summary, poor quality control and I probably won't be ordering from here again.

I ordered spicy falcon quarter chicken on Wed but it's not spicy at all. I think they made my order wrong.
I ordered fried chicken and waffle fries last Friday night.Waffle fries were good.I am usually a fan of birdbox but this time one of the large chicken tenders was basically raw (see the attached photo).Unacceptable!
It's for one of those days when you feel like being unhealthy and eating some fried food.

Amazing chicken sandwich place. The food, though not cheap, is definitely delicious and worth the price, especially with the inclusion of the chicken's leg. Restaurant also has a nice atmosphere if you're into that. Certainly coming back!

Now that they have introduced the “Nugs” this might be my new favorite neighborhood spot.

SF. Perfectly fried chicken wings with the outside being crunchy while the inside was moist & tender. Classic yeast seasoning was good on its own. The mustard sauce on the side was also good, but I felt like it overpowered the classic yeast seasoning. The slaw & pickles were a perfect accompaniment. Overall, good but nothing great. Potato salad was just ok. Glad to have tried this place, but no need for a repeat visit.
