Delicious African fare in a chill environment. Tasty flavors and friendly service; they definitely go easier on the spice level, though.

Yummy new cuisine I have never tried before. If you enjoy spices and foods with sauce, you'll like it. Vibrant crowd. Went on a Friday for an early dinner.

I recently went to Bissap Baobab with my beloved. I first experienced here at a recent Elite Yelp event and enjoyed it very much. First things first the service and hospitality is superb. You couldn't ask for more kind service and hospitality which really makes all the difference in dining out. The ambiance here is awesome. Bissap Baobab has a wonderful atmosphere and vibe overall. Now onto the food and drinks. I went with the ginger juice and enjoyed it very much. For the entrees we ordered the Yassa which is marinated onions in savory sauce with vegetables. We had it Akara which is tofu and plantains cooked together and a side of rice. We also ordered Mafe with Akara which is tofu and plantains cooked together and a side of couscous. The tofu was really good yet the respected curries were so so and could have been better. It seemed like we just were getting tofu and side of grains with a tiny bowl of curry. Decent yet could have been better with more veggies. Still solid and exceptional service along with hospitality. Terrific ambiance and the food could have been better.

Great African vibe in the mission. We had a great evening with reasonably priced drinks, excellent food, live music followed by a DJ. I highly recommend.

Huge place with fun menu. The cocktails are excellent. Really sweet bartenders. Fast service. Live music and dancing Sunday nights!

Solid food, I went here sometime back. It was quite delicious. Hopefully, it stays alive , we need to keep food eateries.

I love everything about this place. The food is amazing - I recommend the mafe, baobab gambas (shrimp and garlic sauce) and the plantains with the tamarind yogurt sauce. Sooooo good. Also great cocktails! One of the only places I know of that has tamarind and hibiscus cocktails, which are my two favorite flavors. Their salsa nights are really fun and they always have great live music. Staff are so nice too! I really like their outdoor area too - great ambiance all around.

There is a lot to do here besides enjoy great West African food. Bissau is know for their dance scene and deep display of various cultures and ethnic background. Each week, you will find different live events whether it be music, dance classes, or just dancing in general you are always in for a good time. The service moves fairly quick as on event nights they tend to get very busy so they do their best to get your food at in a timely manner, though it can be hard to catch them in larger crowds, but that is to be expected. The pastels came out hot and crispy and the shrimp is very well seasoned, though they seem small you are given a great amount of the combo plate so there is enough to fill you up. The side dishes are amazing as of course, the plantains are so well cooked and are a great side dish or even an appetizer if you feel it necessary. The owner has put a lot of time and though into everything here and really has a passion for bringing the community the very best of what the mission has to offer.

I went yesterday to a Brazilian party that was happening in this place. It was me and my husband. We wanted to eat before the party because we had never been to this restaurant before and the menu had many options for those who follow a plant-based diet. We were very hungry, I planned to have dinner there. I had lunch super early that day. After starting to drink, when I went to order food, the kitchen informed the bartender that there was no longer any vegan option, nothing, not even the salad!!!As I had been drinking and my stomach was empty and there was nothing to eat, I felt sick and returned home super early. It ruined my night. The party was really fun but I don't think I would come back here again or recommend it to any friends. What's the point of organizing parties in a restaurant and not having food for customers?!The drinks were good, the bartender was friendly

An incredibly fun and COOL space where one feels that they have traveled to another country. The help is extremely down to earth (which can be refreshing in SF some times!) and the atmosphere is great. Also, live music in the space next to the restaurant, which made for a really full evening. I hope this stays in the city for a long time to come because it adds so much to the Mission! (I have lived in SF since 1986 and miss many long gone establishments.)

The food is very good. Portions are on the smaller side though.

I was originally excited to try out the food here, however after eating I was a bit disappointed. The fish in the ceebu jen felt overfried and was a bit on the drier side. The flavor overall was okay but it didn't particularly impress me either. I tried some of my friend's lamb and jollof rice and the lamb felt overcooked and the rice to be bland. On the other hand, the portion sizes here were generous so it ensured that we were full.

One of the few places in San Francisco where you can make a reservation for a large group without much fuss. In fact, we had a conference dinner there and there were actually two parties/large groups in the restaurant at the same time! Food is really good, unique even for San Francisco, and the people running the place are the nicest and really chill about last-minute changes and alterations. Highly recommended!
