About Mission Chinese Food

Mission Chinese Food offers a unique dining experience with solid Szechuan spice and non-traditional Chinese dishes. The restaurant serves high-end comfort food at reasonable prices, perfect for sharing with a group. The hip ambiance may surprise some, but the Chinese kitchen staff ensures authentic and delicious meals. Dishes like thrice cooked bacon, Kung Pao pastrami, and Westlake lamb dumplings continue to impress even without the famous chef-owner. Many customers enjoy hearty servings, especially the rice cakes served with smoky Chinese bacon, bitter melon, inari tofu skin, and peppers, which are spicy and flavorful. The mushroom chowmein is a staple, and the Taiwanese basil eggplant offers a unique, plantain-like taste, although some find it could use more garlic and crispiness. The restaurant also offers interesting snacks like crunchy peanuts sitting in Gold Plum dumpling vinegar, adding a traditional touch. While some dishes like cumin lamb ribs and Chongqing chicken wings received mixed reviews, others like the vegetarian mappou tofu and cod fried rice were appreciated for their flavors. The atmosphere and service are highly praised, with cozy decor and attentive staff. The restaurant accommodates dietary restrictions, including gluten-free options, making it a popular place for a flavorful and memorable meal.

very nice and interesting

Great option for interesting vegan Chinese food in the Mission, they have menu items that are different then the typical Chinese fare. Appreciate that items are clearly labelled if they are vegan or can by made vegan. There are a good variety of options for vegan apps and mains.
Got the vinegar peanuts which were really delicious, difficult to stop eating them, very addicting with the vinegar flavor.
The mapo tofu with mushroom was good, not as spicy as expected. The star...read full review

Less of a trend setter, but still has its charms.
