Blue Plate is a neighborhood treasure. Scrumptious food, delightful adult beverages and the tasteful decor does not disappoint. A MUST on your 2026 restaurant list.
After eating here with my spouse many times over the years, I returned with a party of 6 the other night. We were seated in the front, near the door, which surprised me. There is a quieter space in back. While the food was as I remembered, excellent, the space was cold and loud and I practically had to flag down the server to order wine. They lost a star from my overall review.
Always a great experience at Blue Plate.Lively energy and great service with delicious dishes. Elevated comfort food. The salmon and steak dishes were excellent and the mac and cheese is insanely good. A reliable high quality casual spot.
With a somewhat small menu, this place emphasizes well prepared meals. Service is great and our server was friendly and most helpful. We had the fried chicken that is boneless and crunchy served with an outrageous potato salad. The meatloaf our neighbors looked good with mashed potatoes. We also had macro and cheese, also like homemade and a burrata app. Last was a salmon dish that my daughter greatly enjoyed. Pricing was reasonable but most important was that everything was delicious. Worth the trip.
Reliable neighborhood joint for when you want something more gourmet but not crazy $$$. Old standards but done well and often interesting new takes. The charred octopus app is good, cooked perfectly but I do far prefer all the old preparation with cauliflower that was more umami!! The current brussel sprouts and chanterelles side is yummy! Smoked beef bruschetta is always great. Fried chicken thighs are juicy even though it's not on the bone.
I truly think this place has the best meatloaf in the world... My sixth or seventh time here, my husband had been put on a soft-foods diet because of an upcoming root canal. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes here are both delicious and soft, so he was able to eat a flavorful meal while not harming his tooth. We are very grateful; the service is always outstanding as well!
One of SF's gem indeed . You must go to enjoy . I love their appetizers . This our go to local restaurant.
Very nice fried chicken and meat loaf, salad, key lime pie Lovely, warm informal ambience. Great simple homestyle food done beautifully in a charming environment.
This is a lovely gem of a restaurant with consistently delicious, seasonal food and great ambience with stellar service. Standout classics you'll always find on their menu include meatloaf with mashed potatoes, drunken goat Mac n cheese and fried chicken but I would encourage you to try whatever seasonal starters you find. Go here! You won't be disappointed!
Tried something new — loved every bite.

Good solid food in a charming converted home and an up and coming trendy neighborhood.
If not too cool we would have eaten in back garden patio. Service was a little hit and miss as it started well but then our server disappeared for awhile after taking drinks and appetizers order only.

Always a great place to meet friends and hang out. Food and service is great. The backyard area is amazing on a nice day.
The service was great and food was well-liked by my table. However, there is a 3% credit card surcharges that showed up after I provided my credit card. I am surprised a restaurant at this level would do a “credit card surcharges” when this is not really a hole in a wall type of place.

Blue plate is one of those special places in San Francisco that remind us how lucky we are to live here.
With a wonderful patio and cozy dining room, the ambience sets the scene for a great start to any evening.
The food is always delicious and the service is friendly.
Luckily, we got there at the tail end of happy hour and enjoyed the excellent wine options at great prices.
We love coming here before going to a show at the magic patio a couple doors down.

What a great find! This is quite the hidden gem! I was in the mood for comfort food, and Blue Plate did not disappoint. Not only was the food excellent, the service was on point. Loved our waitress! We started off with the smoked trout deviled eggs, toasted faro and poached egg, and the little gem salad. For the main we had the hanger steak and meatloaf. Everything was so delicious! Don't miss out on the happy hour! I will definitely be back!
