We have been coming here for over a decade. The food is still just as good and it has a comfortable atmosphere.Vegetarian options: Very good and wide variety. I’m not remotely vegetarian but can totally eat the veg combo and be very satisfied.Dietary restrictions: Plenty for dairy sensitive and vegetariansParking: Typical Valencia parking but commercial parking space right in front that ends at 6 so it’s easy to park to grab takeout.

Hearty and filling food meant to be shared with a group. I'd recommend coming with friends to try different dishes.

Very down to Earth and very filling food at great price. I shared lentils and tofu tibsie over injera bread, with my omni sister, who also absolutely loved it. Very flavorful with spices (but not too spicy either). Was also topped with a little salad too, which blends well with everything. Updated from previous review on 2024-01-21

The fish tibsi was jaw droppingly good! well spiced, deep flavor, tender and envigorating. also had the whole lentils, house made cottage cheese, beef, and lamb. The place was quiet, and the one guy was serving all the tables, but the vibes were right. I'm coming back for the fish!

I feel like this place used to be good, but was recently very disappointed both by the food and the service. First they seem to have one person working the entire restaurant which was full. The server refused to open the back area for large groups and stuffed everybody at small tables. We had 10 or 11 people at a four top table. He told us we had to wait for the table next to us to leave if we wanted more space for 11 of us to eat. and they lingered and lingered after paying their bill and the server did nothing. until we had to be the ones to awkwardly ask the table next to us to leave so we could have space to eat. This was really awkward and felt like the server was trying to offload the job of managing the restaurant space to us. Also, there was a room in the back with space for at least 20 more people that he refused to open. The food came out lukewarm, it seemed to be reheated and not well. The Bay area and California is so well known for good Ethiopian food, and this was just very basic and felt microwaved. Nothing was fresh.

Great food at a good price. We were a group of five so they offered to serve us family style. The injera was more flavorful than I've had at other Ethiopian restaurants, and all of the vegetarian dishes were very tasty.

I love that this space is usually pretty quiet and the food is delicious. They also have a non alcoholic beer that I like to pair with the food.

Recently went to Cafe Ethiopia with some friends. I have been a fan of Ethiopian food for a long time. I am a longtime vegan of 21 years so know that Ethiopian food always has tasty & nourishing plant based options. My go to at Ethiopian restaurants is usually the veggie combo. At Cafe Ethiopia when you order the Veggie Combo you choose three items of the half dozen available options for the Veggie Combo. Went with: 1. Ater- Split peas in spicy sauce 2. Bersin- split red lentils in a medium spicy sauce 3. Atakelte Kilikil- potatoes, carrot, & cabbage not spicy It was served w/ these three items along w/ a salad w/ a nice dressing along w/ heaps of injera bread. My friends also each got a Veggie Combo. We all enjoyed it. I feel Cafe Ethiopia is a solid option to experience Ethiopian food in San Francisco & in the Mission district. I lived three years in the East Bay & tried a lot of different Ethiopian restaurants in Oakland along w/ Berkeley so my favorite Ethiopian restaurants might be in the East Bay yet can never go wrong w/ Ethiopian.

Sooo good and perfect spice level if you can’t handle heat. Loved it!

Right amount of spice. So flavorful. I ate 90% of the vegetarian combo plate on my own so but I'm sure two people could split it.
