My wife and I stopped in (made reservations) for dinner tonight. There is very little seating inside so we sat outside with heaters and it was just fine. We started with the Burrata and it was very good. We had the gnocchi and ravioli and they were both outstanding. We finished by sharing a piece of tiramisu and it too was outstanding. Everything was fresh. What a great little Italian cafe. Don’t miss this one.

one of the best dining experiences of my life!

felt like we were dining in the owners home. people stopping off the street to say hello and give hugs. it’s so obvious how much the neighborhood and community love them and this restaurant.

the spaghetti and pistachio ricotta cake which were the best we’ve ever had and we did not want to leave when dinner was over. thank you, Mario and Stephanie!

One of the worst front-of-house experiences I’ve had in a long time. We booked a reservation in advance, arrived exactly at our scheduled time, and were immediately dismissed. The hostess was openly condescending and made it clear our reservation meant nothing, directing us to wait in line instead — despite the entire point of reserving. It felt chaotic, poorly managed, and unnecessarily hostile.

We ended up taking our business at Sai Vietnamese, across the street, where the staff was incredibly warm, respectful, and delivered top-notch food.

Horrible place, can’t even rate the food because I reserved a table and they were so rude that they kicked me out and said “go wait jn line honey” when it was time 7:00 - the time I made the reservation , and then the people in line felt the need to heckle me too? Absolutely horrible experience. Don’t accept reservations if you can’t honor them. Never visiting again.

The food was very good and the owners were welcoming. Service was great and did not feel rushed so able to enjoy your meal.

I only wish I had more stars to give. Last week my wife and I went to San Francisco for a business trip. Unfortunately it coincided with her birthday, so after a day of meetings all we wanted was a nice dinner to celebrate. We wandered into this amazing restaurant by chance. The food was spectacular, but that was only a small portion of the experience. Mario and his wife Stephanie acted more like friends hosting a dinner party than owners of a restaurant. Stephanie even sat down with us for probably a half hour, chatting about life and toasting with us. When the evening came to an all too soon conclusion, she and Mario waved us down the street as we headed to our hotel with full stomachs and huge smiles on our faces. Top 5 all time dining experience, and we will certainly be returning at the first opportunity!

I make a point to visit Caffè Macaroni on each visit to SF. Chef Mario and company always make it feel like a homecoming to a cherished neighborhood spot.

Spaghetti Siciliana was served using spoiled fish. Pasta undercooked, no sauce. Pappardelle more sauce and very little meat. Olive oil dip was inferior and maybe not pure olive oil. Expensive for little value. No one checked up with us during the meal.Diningroom small, cluttered, and extremely dusty. A woman at the front didnt greet us and was more attuned to outside acquaintance dog- walking.

Caffe Macaroni is consistently one of the best and most charming, authentic Italian restaurants in SF. The owners are always friendly and provide great service, and the menu is fresh and always excellent. Together with a fantastic bottle of wine, we had an incredible meal and I will continue to return - whether for a special occasion or just a Wednesday dinner - and everything in between.
