Home style French. One of my favorite restaurants in the city.Edit after like the 109th time I've been. Will never not go to this restaurant

One of the physically most comfortable dining experiences I had in a long time. Everybody in the restaurant was sitting at their tables with jackets and scarves, windows open, no heating going on. Yes, it was a cold night outside. But to sit in a freezer for 90min to have dinner is not a particularly European flair. I suggest to go to France, Germany, Italy, Spain, anywhere in Europe and they will know how to make the room warm and inviting. Something they don't seem to care too much about in the US.The place is very noisy and poorly ventilated.Food was mediocre at best. Onion Soup and Endive salad were good, fries were luke warm and not crisp, mussels had very little of the yummy sauce, Acme bread was tough and not fresh, sole fish was bland and uninspiring. We may give this another try at some point, but for now disappointed.

Chez Maman EastHospitality - 4/5Selection - 4/5Quality of Food - 4/5Overall - 4/5Had a quick round table in the city, and asked the local’s where a great spot was for a nice meal. Chez Maman East was the answer and they did not disappoint. My colleague and I were welcomed in and seated right away. It was early, so they weren’t too busy. The waiter was quick to serve us and was very informative. Even suggested a few items they were known for. My colleague took his suggestion and got the Sole. He was very happy he took the suggestion. It was cooked beautifully and had great flavor. To the point he licked the plate clean!I chose the bell pepper soup and their famous burger. The soup was delightful and fit perfect on this rainy day. The burger was everything everyone had told me. The burger was cooked correctly, juicy, and tender. The add-ons were just icing on the cake.If we were to suggest anything to the restaurant to improve on, it would be have fresh bread. The baguette we ordered was dry and like chewing leather. Went great with the soup, but by itself was not enjoyable.Overall, we would return to try the rest of the menu.Parking: Just your standard street parking. Might have to walk a little once you park.

So here is what's left of lunch. My colleague and I stopped for lunch as we worked and it looked quaint. The French/Latin American atmosphere was well reflected in my burger and what was left of my sorbet. Despite the price, it is San Francisco, but worth it in terms of quality and quantity.

The restaurant I return to more than any--good French food is quite rare in San Francisco, but Chez Maman provides all the classics for a reasonable price. There's rarely a wait and the views from Potrero Hill are incredible. It feels fairly authentic too, with French wine and French waiters. I especially love the sole meuniere, roasted chicken, and French onion soup. Warm and cozy, the most comforting thing you can eat on a cold, foggy night

Ambiance: CasualReview only applies to the angus burger & french onion soup. The French onion soup was great (5*) and I would order again. The burger is a 3* for me. I ordered mine with an egg and mushroom. It is cooked perfectly medium rare, but it wasn’t as tasty as comparable gourmet burgers. Also I felt $3 for 4-5 (what seemed to be canned) mushrooms wasn’t worth it. Next time, I’d pass on the burger and try other entrees. Service was exceptional, all the staff was very attentive. It’s a small venue so you could end up waiting and you need the entire party to be present to be seated.

Highly recommended. We ordered Baked Camembert to start, and then duck and hachis parmentier. For dessert, crème brûlée ?
