I love this place. However, it has been closed everyday since mid November. Closed for about two months now. I'm afraid something happened to the owner. Fingers crossed they're okay and on a much deserved vacation and will return soon.

I work as a chef and this guy is what most hospitality workers wish they were. He’s also the one that entitled people become more entitled from. He’s the man.

"Hello, what time do you close today?"*Grunts*"Every day at 6 pm!"*Slams down phone*Ok, that's when you know the food is going to be cheap AND good! Because you don't go to Chinese restos for the service. Chopsticks has been serving the local Excelsior and Outer Mission community for as long as I can remember. In times of shrinkflation, it's a spot to hit up in the city when you're hangry and short on cash....Because rice plates are only $6.29! A dollar more for shrimp. And, the owner gives you enough food for two meals. Please don't be turned off by the lack of service (it's nothing personal) or by the dingy, hole-in-the-wall vibes...you're here for cheap eats. Every day, the owner is in front of a blazing hot wok that will singe your eyebrows off if you're not careful. And, with today's high food costs, he's making very little off each plate. Respect the grind and hustle. Hours of Operations: Open every day, 11 am - 6 pm (wrong hours listed on yelp). Do call before heading over since it's basically a one-man show (wife helps take and pack orders) and he may need to close shop early when life happens. Mainly a takeout joint but there's several small round tables inside. M E N UChinese-American Fare w/ most dishes under $7. Nothing over $9.09 for a full protein entree. CASH ONLY!Everything is cooked-to-order, no steam trays so expect fresh, piping hot food. I called in my order when I was 13 minutes away and my order was packed and ready to go when I arrived (4 dishes). F O O D* Kung Pao Chicken w/ rice ($6.29): tinyurl.com/9s5mdyfx--Requested extra spicyA heaping pile of fresh steamed rice was topped with savory, spicy morsels of dark meat chicken, cubes of tender zucchini, and crunchy roasty peanuts. It wasn't overly salty, oily, or msg-y. It was just right. It was deliciously satisfying and enough for two meals. From a value proposition, you can't beat it!For others, I ordered a second order of Kung Pao Chicken w/ rice ($6.29), Beef & Broccoli w/ rice ($6.29), and Shrimp w/ scrambled eggs, rice ($7.49). Received zero complaints about the food. S E R V I C EAll business but hella efficient. A M B I A N C EHole-in-the-wall with three small round tables. It's stuffy and hot inside from the kitchen so not a place to really dine-in...maybe in the winter. P A R K I N GStreet parking is very challenging. You'll usually see a line of cars double parked during weekday lunch. Bring someone who can run in to grab your order while you drive around the blockOverall, if you're looking for a hot and satisfying, wallet-friendly Chinese-American meal that hits the spot, give Chopsticks a try!

This neighborhood spot has been here since I was a teenager. The chef reminds me of my late father. hard working no frills guy. food is freshly made and authentic cantonese. If you're expecting more than a good basic meal then this a not for you.

This mom and pop shop has been here for a long time, and it is a fan favorite among locals due to the big portions for a more than affordable price. The food is great, no doubts here. I've tried various things from this place, but my favorites have to be the beef chow fun and beef with broccoli over rice. This is not listed on the menu, but on occasion I've requested tomato chow mein and it is super delicious. My only critique is that wait times can get pretty long since it is a 1-2 person team. This isn't so much a problem when it's a slow hour, but expect a long wait during peak hours. The wait is well worth it for how much bang for your buck you get though. Another thing to note: they work on each order one by one and probably won't acknowledge you until it's your turn, so just a heads up if it's your first time here. This is also a cash only establishment! You can't find a place with inexpensive prices like this elsewhere in SF. Highly recommend.

Definitely a dingy hole in the wall restaurant. But they are there at 10:00am everyday mopping the floors and cleaning and prepping. The door will be open but they will tell you they won't be taking orders until 10:45 at the earliest. I think they officially open at 11. The plates are big, a little under two lbs each. You can feed two people on one plate. As a miserly Chinese person this is legit. I've read reviews where people claim that dishes somewhere are big enough to share and I buy and bring it home and they weigh less than 1lb each including packaging. This place is value and the food is pretty good. (Some expensive plates like shrimp and eggs or Cha Sui pork might be closer to 1lb, but most of the menu is value)

Owner is Bipolar Rude. He's attitude swings. Most of the time he's rude. His wife is super nice. Feel bad for her.

Price and portion size are great, can't bet $6.29 for a rice plate in SF. Plus support the moms and pops store.
