As a dive bar + Ethiopian restaurant, Waziema is the kind of slightly unusual combination that makes you glad to live in a city. It's been around for a while and every time I see it I'm glad it's still going. In fairness it's probably not the best Ethiopian food in SF but it's decent and when you're looking for a less formal meal (or just a drink) it's a good neighborhood option.
First of all, this place needs to have a better sign out front and a way of letting patrons know they serve food. I walked in here while bar hopping a while ago, and I had zero idea this place served food at night, I thought it must have been a day time thing because it is technically a bar, and nothing noticeable inside that showed they serve one of the best Ethiopian food in San Francisco.Food, as I mentioned is great, service is good enough for a bar. It was quite empty when...
Ordered the beef stew which is described as cubed beef in berbere sauce and I'm 99% sure they served me ground beef. Tasted fine but when I asked if it was supposed to be cubed she said "we cut smaller because it's good for digestion" on top of that, it is a straight up dive bar and it feels wrong to be ordering dinner there. I think I'll try a few other Ethiopean places before I return here.
