This is a lovely art museum in Golden Gate Park with a very diverse offering. It's not an art world icon, but a nice mix of style and lesser-known works by well-known artists.
Each room is well curated and presents a strong theme.
The layout is a bit confusing and some rooms are closed, so I recommend following the map to make sure you don't miss anything. There are also ticket checks as you enter and exit the ticketing area, so keep your sticker visible!

The de Young Café offers a variety of tasty dishes, including delicious salmon, savory sandwiches, and hot soups. Visitors can also enjoy a selection of delightful desserts and drinks. The service is polite and efficient, with a large dining area and indoor and outdoor seating options that let guests enjoy the nice weather or view of nearby artwork. The café is a well-kept secret, serving fresh and fancy dishes without the need for reservations. A popular choice is the radicchio salad with blue cheese, walnut, and grapefruit. Recently, customers have enjoyed the hotdog and pulled pork sandwich, noting that the flavors were delicious, though some felt the portions were overpriced. The café also offers fresh fruit tart, panna cotta, and meringue for dessert. Prices can seem high, with a hot chocolate costing $7 and a latte $7, and small cakes at $10, plus taxes. Some visitors mentioned that prices may discourage longer stays, and staff behavior can sometimes be less friendly. Despite these issues, many still find the café a lovely spot for a meal after exploring the surrounding art museum in Golden Gate Park.
