I was thoroughly surprised to have authentic Japanese treats in the middle of a tourist attraction. Everything we ordered as so good, the view was good, the service was good. We ordered the matcha Swiss roll, and the rice cakes with tea. I like that you can actually taste the matcha. Most matcha desserts don't actually taste like matcha. The garden is especially lovely early in the morning when entry is free from 7:30am to 9am, providing a quiet time to enjoy the scenery. Although parking can be challenging, many find it worth the effort for this charming and cultural experience. The beautiful Japanese workmanship and various tree species give a sense of peace, making it a treasure in Golden Gate Park. While the atmosphere can be affected by noise from children, the overall charm of the tea shop and gift shop adds to the appeal of this beautiful spot in San Francisco.
