I was walking to this place and wanted to eat there but it was near closing time. I was reading some reviews while walking for tips. Some people say they make great mole, so I walked faster because I love mole. I have been constantly disappointed with some mole experiences around here, so I was keen on trying this one.

I got the chicken with red mole to go. I used their restroom and when I finished, my order was just ready. As expected from an efficient, no-frill Mexican kitchen. That was a positive sign.

Got home after about 3 hours. Took a bite from the now-cold mole and, wow, this is exactly what I was looking for. A complex, well-balanced mole (not that easy to find). It was kinda addictive and I finished half of my dish cold. The chicken was fine and not very tender and the tortilla was ok, but as a whole, it was a very satisfying dish, especially when you mix a little bit of black beans with the mole and chicken and eat it with the tortilla. Buen comer, indeed.

Great neighborhood spot. Pepino cocktail, guacamole, and the chicken tinga huarache were standouts. Looking forward to next visit to try the mole.

Everything we tried here was fantastic. From the fresh hot tortillas, the red and green salsa, the chicken tinga tacos and the Mole con Pollo.

I’ve reached out multiple times over phone and Facebook messenger (10 times over the past 2 years) asking about a serious dietary restriction (lard). Every one of my Facebook messages has been read by them, but ignored. Was told they’d get back to me over the phone, never did despite calling twice. Not been a problem elsewhere.

Edit: I added screenshots of their Facebook page which they’ve replied saying they don’t have, and the messages I sent that were read and ignored.

We had been looking forward to trying El Buen Comer for a long time. Previous reviews had been crazy good and they were on several top ten restaurant lists for SF. Big disappointment . We felt we had wandered into the wrong place. The food was mediocre at best. Nothing stood out as special except maybe the salsa for the chips. The guacamole was bland. Chile Relleno was dry. Chicken enchiladas were meh. Plus, they had a performer singing Mexican songs, which is great, but he was playing so loudly and shouting the words so that you couldn't even talk. Sorry, but not a fan.
