Loved their cappuccino ❤️. We empanadas melt in your mouth. No seating, but we took it to the pier benches and enjoyed our quick breakfast. Our choices: Carne(beef) and Champinion(mushrooms)

Paid 15$ for 2 empanadas it’s not about the money it’s about the quality,
It wasn’t worth it unfortunately!

I was interested in using Blackbird to pay for my empanadas here, but the employee kept insisting that they only allow Blackbird for drinks and that it was not redeemable after 11am. Even after I explained to him three times that I didn’t want a drink and just wanted to pay for the empanadas using Blackbird he still didn’t understand that simple concept. I don’t understand why a business would partner with companies like Blackbird and not train/explain how to handle transactions properly. Honestly the empanadas were cold and stale as well, so I wouldn’t come back.

El Porteño in the Ferry Building is a solid stop if you’re craving a warm, flaky empanada and don’t mind splurging a bit. The location is prime—nestled among other artisan vendors with plenty of seating around if you want to linger by the water or people-watch inside. The selection is generous, with both traditional and unique fillings that make it easy to find something that hits the spot, whether you’re in the mood for beef, chicken, or a vegetarian option.
The staff were super friendly and efficient. I barely had time to decide before my empanada was warm and in my hand. They’ve clearly got the rhythm of a high-traffic tourist spot down.
As for the food: the empanadas are good. Not mind-blowing, but satisfying in that comforting, handheld snack kind of way. The crust is buttery and the fillings are flavorful, though not necessarily anything I’d cross town for. At $15 for two, it’s definitely on the pricey side—but honestly, one was enough to fill me up. I’d come back if I was nearby, hungry, and wanting something cozy without too much commitment. It’s a reliable Ferry Building bite.
A place where you pay $5 for a drip coffee and you get a pre-made coffee from a dispenser. Asking tips for this is madness.

2 stars at best. Due to all the raving reviews, I was very excited to try the shrimp empanada. Not only was it a bit fishy but the small pieces of shrimp inside was probably the worst I've ever had. It tasted very overcooked, dry, and rubbery. At $7 per empanada- they don't offer ANY free sauces, not even hot sauce which is absolutely unheard of for an empanada place. They have chimichurri for sale but the prices are ridiculous. $1.50 for a small 1 oz size. I would pay 0.75- max $1 for the sauce but $1.50 is too much for that size. With that said, the beef empanada was decent but not good enough to make me want to return.
Really nice coffee and empanada shop in China Basin. Coffee is excellent, very smooth and made to order empanadas made with care. Savory or sweet, not a typical pastry.

Cleanliness 5/5, Location 4/5, Interior 3/5, Value 3/5. Good quiet place to work on laptop for a bit to catch up on work. But not more than an hour because hard wooden seats! ☺️
First time ever having empanadas, definitely worth coming back

The alfajores are an offense to Argentina, of very poor quality. I do not recommend.
