Fish was high quality, but the service and value were abysmal. We waited over an hour for our mains, with no apology or offer of anything to tie us over due to the slow kitchen.Meanwhile other later seated tables got their food before us, door dash orders were going out the door, and the wait staff sat by idly as multiple tables were getting irritated. Also - The omakase isn't a traditional omakase. It's just 8 pieces of sushi. Miso isn't even included! The table next to us laughed at how little food they got, and literally ordered a pizza delivery from their table.$160 before tax and tip and we both left hungry after 2 hours for a few pieces of fish and premade miso.

The food was amazing and the chef was engaging and fun. My friend and I both got the Omakase (as well as several other one-off orders). The fish was exceptional and the rice was perfect.

My first time to visit this restaurant. It reminded me of Japan. The atmosphere is also similar to Japanese style! Wooo! We ordered "Toro Ikura Uni Don" even though we were almost full. lol But It was amazing! We never regretted!❤️Love it!❤️

So impressed by the quality of the food for the price. It was my first time at Fenikkusu and it won’t be my last. I have eaten at a lot of sushi/omakase places in SF, and this is one of the best. I thought it was well priced, food was delicious, atmosphere was relaxing, staff was welcoming and kind. Highly recommend!

Super cozy. The nigiri was exceptional. The Hokkaido uni and the scallop were the highlights for me tonight.

I can't believe the last time I went to Fenikkusu was all the way back in spring last year - it way too good to be missing it for so long! This time I tried:- three-piece sake nigiri - my one true fish love is salmon always and forever - it was so fresh and buttery here- mini kaizen don - had the most adorable presentation/I wish I could keep the baby wooden spoon. The fish was a good variety and again very fresh but did not include sake so I'm glad I ordered that separately! My favorite part was the uni which was SO creamy and the perfect touch of sweet. Lovely place and it seems like you can count on being able to get a table quite easily!

Pretty premium. Started with the omakase and then had a few of the chef’s recommendations. Next time I will try some of the tapas, but the nigiri was phenomenal.

We ordered the 8 pieces omakase plus a few other items and everything was delightful. The fish was very fresh and carefully seasoned/marinated/smoked to bring out the flavor. Highly recommend sitting at the counter to watch the chef's knife technique while you enjoy the sushi.

Before we walked in we noticed the sign outside the restaurant stating they don't offer, "Fancy American style rolls." I thought that was interesting to see. Once inside there was another sign stating they only use koshihikari rice. When I asked the chef what's so special about the rice he said it's nothing special just that it is short grain while other sushi restaurants use medium grain. I actually never noticed that, (except at some buffets) and I appreciated that he explained it to me. We came in on a Friday night shortly after they opened without a reservation and sat at the chef's counter next to the wall mounted fireplace. The interior had a cozy ambiance. My partner ordered a 10pcs omakase and an anago nigiri. Well actually he ordered it for me. We tried anago for the first time in Tokyo recently and absolutely loved it and prior to arriving we knew they served it, which was the reason we came here. I ordered the miso walu, anago tempura and squid legs. The food arrived quickly. The squid legs were tender and lightly fried as was the anago tempura. I didn't expect the miso walu to be cooked but that's my fault because it wasn't listed as a nigiri but as a tapas instead. I later realize I prefer my walu eaten raw and my anago grilled. When the anago nigiri arrived my partner tried a bite and the chef immediately told him to eat the whole piece and by taking a small bite he "destroyed" the experience. We were both completely thrown off by the way he said it. He seemed obviously offended. We are sorry! Prior to visiting Japan we knew to eat sushi in one bite but we are not in Japan and we like to share our food. We felt really bad and honestly that killed the whole dining experience for us. Though he did offer another anago nigiri on the house for my partner to try which he declined at first. After I ate it in one bite I wanted him to try it and the chef gladly made one for us. The anago nigiri was one of our favorite things we ate. My partner enjoyed his omakase.

I had stopped in early to just grab a beer. I didn't realize this place was so amazing.Had 3 pieces of fantastic sushi (red fish, Wagyu, and tuna). Exact was perfectly prepared and far beyond my expectation. Beer selection was pretty good, I didn't think to check sake or cocktails.Overall a place I would love to come back to in the future.
