Gentilly offers a unique dining experience, with a vibrant bar area in the front and a more intimate dining room in the back.
We dined at Gentilly during SF Restaurant Week. The blue crab and corn fritters were a delightful start to the meal. The crispy exterior gave way to a tender interior, and the paprika aioli added a tangy kick that complemented the seafood perfectly.
The Cajun meatloaf was a hearty and satisfying dish. The meatloaf itself was juicy and flavorful, while the mashed potatoes were creamy and comforting. The green beans were well-seasoned, adding a touch of freshness to the plate.
The chocolate pudding, however, was a bit of a letdown. While the pudding itself was rich and decadent, the Oreo crumbles were sparse, and the overall sweetness was overwhelming.
The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the positive dining experience.
Overall, Gentilly offers a solid dining experience with a focus on hearty, flavorful dishes.

This place is a hidden gem. I'm not a wine drinker, so I can't speak on the wine selection, but the beer selection is decent. The highlight here is the food, everything I've thus far is great; their pasta, chicken bites, French fries and cowboy toast. This place deserves more traffic, the staff are also super friendly and attentive

It was pretty loud and by the time we left on a Thursday evening they had a live band playing in the bar area. The food was ok. Nothing that I'm dying to go back for. Felt like some of the dishes were lacking a bit of something...

Food was not that tasty! I can cook better than this and it would have been way cheaper to cook at home. Definitely not worth the prices.

We ordered the pork ribs Cajun fries basket, crispy brussel sprouts, blackened shrimp Caesar salad, shrimp and grits, fried chicken for two, blackened catfish dinner, crawfish pot pie, and the beignets with dipping sauce.Had a lot of hopes for the chicken as I was curious about the bacon maple glaze. In fact that was what brought us there. Didn’t see much of the glaze was it really was bland, not much flavor or seasoning. Had to drown it in their house made hot sauce. We liked the pork ribs a lot. Very tender and fall off the bone. Pot pie was okay and the catfish dinner was meh.Beignets were good though drenched in powdered sugar.
Parking: We found parking a few storefronts away. Parking was okay for a Saturday night.
Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level.

Please try this restaurant. I was visiting SF with my husband while he took the State BAR, and after a long, taxing day of testing, we found Gentilly and it breathed life back into him. We ordered the Cajun pasta and the dish with the pulled pork, ribs, and mac. Outstanding food. Ribs slipped off the bone. They have a nice selection of non-alcoholic craft sodas, plus lots of awesome cocktails...which I ordered the second night because we HAD to go back! The first night we ate in the back room and another table was doing a murder mystery which was really cool. We ate in the lounge on the second night and chatted with our server, Jessica - - super cool human being, so kind and engaging! Someone came in and the bartender new him by name, asked if he wanted his favorite thing, and put his program on the TV. It was so wholesome and made it feel homey. I genuinely want to visit this area of SF just to go back to Gentilly! This restaurant is obviously a passion project and I'm so happy places like this exist. My only complaint is that it's so far away from where I live! Then again if I lived close to Gentilly I'd probably gain a lot of weight, especially since they serve a brownie with ice cream and salted caramel. You'd be doing yourself a great disservice if you didn't try it!

Overall: Food was standard fare.Would I come back: Probably notThe extended review…Food:Beignets - 2/3 - These were a little bit flat and not quite as airy or puffy that I'm used to.Shrimp and Grits - 3/3 - Food was pretty standard fare. I could have ussed a few more shrimps to tie me over. - Staff was friendly but a tad slow. - The main dining room is located in the backside of a bar.
