Not sure if they'll ever open again, but hope that they do! Halu was our perfect go-to dinner date for my partner and I. We loved the perfectly chewy and bouncy ramen, as well as their skewers, especially the vegetable ones! No one has ever done a mushroom skewer like Halu has. Their okonomiyaki took some time, but always came out perfectly. Honestly, you could never EVER go wrong with anything at Halu! My partner and I always wrote in this specific notebook everytime we went, and we've been waiting to go back. Halu, if you're reading this, please don't close forever! You're a true hidden gem in this city!

Many SF restaurants have closed this past year, but none of them have left me feeling such a loss as the thought of Halu being gone forever.

Tried today during business hours and it appears to still be closed. Maybe permanently?

One of my fave Japanese places. Amazing ramen and lots of smaller Japanese delicacies. The kids use their grandpartents' recipes. I so hope and pray that they don't go out of business. This is a rare jewel of a place. While they - and the rest of us - hunker down during Covid, I'm wondering why they don't do pickup or work with the Doordashes of the world to do delivery. If anyone hears that their back open, please drop a note.

Be prepared to wait to be seated, but it is 100% worth the wait. Best Yakitori I've ever had. Definitely try the beef belly skewers.

So good! You really can't go wrong with any of their skewers. Some of my favorites were the wasabi beef, braised beef tendon, beef tongue, and chicken hearts. All the beef items were so flavorful and tender. The calamari was also pretty tasty. The place is pretty small, so waitlist on Yelp ahead of time!

Okonomiyaki is my new food obsession. And Halu delivers. Pro tip: while one person can definitely eat the whole thing it's best shared three ways and pairs excellently with with Sapporo premium black.

My boyfriend and I were very pleased with our meal here. I decided to treat him to a fun Japanese tapas meal. We ordered several things, but I only took a couple of pics because we were so hungry that we gobbled everything up! We LOVED the bacon wrapped scallops and beef belly steak. That was our ultimate favorite. Definitely look at previous reviews for food suggestions. That helped us out a lot when ordering food. We had a bottle of shochu. It was stronger than we expected! Very fun place, not great for large groups. The bathroom was different lol! We will have to come back again!!!!

Can't go wrong in this place, enjoy... Delicious, freshly made, and above average service.

We ordered the two yakitori plates (one was grilled, the other was kushi katsu so fried).

I came here off of a friend's recommendation that this place is really authentic and has "cool vibes." The place opens at 5 pm on Saturday and we arrived at 4:50 pm with a small gathering of people already waiting outside. Heads up that you need to sign up on the Yelp waitlist when you do arrive; we didn't do that but luckily got a spot at the bar. 1. Tea 5/5 I'm not sure what hot tea we ordered but it had a strong barley & rice taste; it was almost a little thick and you could tell the quality was there. We were remarking that the teapot felt really substantial and was a nice touch to making everything feel like the attention to detail was spot on. 2. Agedashi tofu 4.5/5 The tofu was perfectly fried without feeling greasy and was in a really delicious sauce. 3. Yaki onigiri 4/5 This rice ball wasn't grilled as much as I would have liked since I tend to like crunchy textures, but it was still tasty nonetheless. I thought there would just be salmon inside the rice ball but actually the salmon is mixed throughout the rice. 4. Kushiyaki Omakase 4.5/5 This is the yakitori version of their omakase (the other one is panko breaded.) All items were skewered/grilled for a smoky flavor. They were salted pretty heavily and had a sweet Teriyaki sauce on top. At the time that we went, it was eggplant, pork, beef, corn, salmon, meat stuffed mushrooms, and a prawn. My favorites were the eggplant, salmon, and meat stuffed mushrooms. The salmon was so juicy; definitely a memorable skewer because it was dripping everywhere! In total, it was about 45 bucks per person for this meal; both of us were full but not stuffed. The vibe inside is kind of trendy with a Beatles theme. It's a cute place for date night but was also kind of loud so difficult to have a conversation. I would have given it five stars if the prices weren't so high and the wait time is more reasonable.

Shockingly delicious. I’ve been to other yakitori places in SF and Kyoto in Japan and this is the best. I can’t believe it. I was hopeful, but this place exceeds expectations. I’d recommend the beef belly for sure. The bacon wrapped tomatoes are also killer. Round it out with some mushrooms and the chicken as well as a nice sake. You will love it!
