Visiting from Washington and stumbled upon this place, which is a few blocks from my hotel. If you come to SF for a conference, and you like spicy Chinese food, come to this place. As someone from Hunan’s adjacent province, i can attest to the authenticity of food here. however, pls go with a friend who speaks chinese or ask for the chinese menu. they do have separate menus. The meat is appropriated seasoned, veggies very fresh, flavorful yet not too saucy. My favorite Chinese restaurant so far.

I first ate at Henry's Hunan in 1980, on Kearny St. I had read about it in the New Yorker before I moved to the Bay Area in 1980, and had to give it a try. The flavors were so intense and unique - and delicious. I have lived in the Seattle area for 30 years, but still try to get there whenever I visit SF. It was just my wife and I, so we couldn't order as much as I would have liked, The Curry Chicken, though, was undiminished in its intensity and deliciousness, so it did the trick for me. I used to love the ham dishes, but didn't have the opportunity to order any of them. The Diana's Pie didn't stand up to our memories of it, but I still have faith and will look forward to eating there again.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in SF and Marin. Been going over 20 years and still consistent and GOOD!

18% service fee is automatically charged for dining in customers . No receipt is provided. Feel uncomfortable about it. Afterwords, I find I was charged for more than 18 % service fee without notification.

I don’t know if the chef has changed, but the quality varies. The spicy and sour chicken gizzards and sausages that I usually order are also average. The quality has also increased the price.

The foods are VERY DRY. AND VERY BAD SERVICE! The meats are so dry I feel like I am having some dog chews And with so many chilies, they NEVER refill your tea or water. No service AT ALL but they charge you 18% tips MANDATORY!!!!!!!! P.S. protect your teeth when chewing the dry meats

Very excellent and delicious food, outstanding. I highly recommend it for all Chinese in the Bay Area who miss the spicy.

It is indeed a very authentic Hunan restaurant - tried the bullfrog and chicken gizzard for the first time and both were on-point flavors. Every dish can get a bit spicy and you do need the spicy to taste the true flavors. Would recommend definitely getting few bowls of rice. Only complaint was there weren't enough servers and cooks so kitchen was backlogged - we didn't get our food until an hour later :(

Confirm again this is my favorite Chinese restaurant in SF downtown! Especially if you are craving for spicy food. And many of my friends also vote this their top restaurants around the Bay Area. The food tastes so yummy every time. It's spicy, hot , savory, flavorful. Hunan spicy is different than Sichuan spicy. It highlights the fragrant from cooking with wok )hot oil sizzling )!

This place was so wonderful. Everyone was very sweet and the food was incredible. I am sad I didn't know about it sooner. I had the hot and sour soup with spicy shrimp and broccoli. It was the best hot and sour soup I ever had. The shrimp was perfect and I usually do not it at restaurants because they over cook it. Everything was fresh and delicious.

I recently dined at this fantastic Hunan restaurant, and it exceeded all expectations. The authenticity of their dishes transported me back to my travels in China. The service was impeccable, and the staff went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. A friend recommended it, and I'm grateful for the tip. Will definitely be back for more flavorful Hunan cuisine!

The food is still awesome but the wait times have gotten really ridiculous especially when you’re just two people waiting for two dishes. I even had to wait a good amount of time for somebody to show up so I can pay my bill.

Went here with my Chinese friend and we had to ask for the special Chinese menu, they gave us the regular one at first. I would say if you’re not too familiar with Chinese food, stick to the English one but we both enjoyed the food here a lot! The food is spicy (how I like it) but I recommend getting the sweet tea with it to combat the spice. Between the 2 of us we had 5 dishes and took home whatever we didn’t finish. I’ll definitely be coming back to try the pork belly
