Busy Friday night and we were really hungry, there were no other restaurant that didn’t have a 1 hour+ wait time or a long line so we decided to eat here…the restaurant was completely empty. Food tasted good but we paid $70 + tip for 2 rice bowls and an order of takoyaki. Good service and decent food but pretty expensive. We also got served with paper plates and cups which for the prices they’re charging feels pretty bad. A family came in to get seated and left immediately saying “actually we’ll go somewhere else”… they were very good with food allergies and accommodating to it which is a plus.
I don’t give one star reviews lightly but this one is well deserved. I went here on a date because I really enjoyed this place pre-pandemic. Although this is a sit down style returns by, you now order and pre-pay via QR code and all food and beverages are served on paper plates and in paper or plastics cups. We ordered the pork katsu bites that were so over cooked it was a chore to eat, and our okonomiyaki and yakisoba were mediocre at best. Our bill came to $107 for the two of us. I sincerely regret suggesting this place and was embarrassed by how expensive it was for what we got since my date was paying. There are plenty of good places to eat in Japan Town, please do not waste your money on this one.
The okonomyaki brought me back to Japan. The flavor was there. The shape was a larger diameter than Japan and more flat than I’ve seen. The service was excellent! The price however, especially for a lunch, was way too high. The okonomyaki started at $20! For a lunch menu! Good flavor, but a one time treat. Not a regular spot for me for that price. 1-seafood okonomyaki:$24, 1-pot of green tea:$3, plus tax and 20% tip= $36 for lunch!
Really tasty! Really pricey. Cute little spot with great atmosphere. You can sit at a quiet counter by yourself if you like. The okonomiyaki are really tasty and can really help revive you on a cold SF winter day. For the price ($20-30 per person), paper cups and paper plates are a little disappointing. But all in all good food and lots to do in the surrounding area
Very friendly waiter.. I tried the original okonomiyaki with chicken and cheese.. I was happy to eat okonomiyaki again after such a long time.. The Gyozas and the Nigori Mango are good as
Almost everything on the menu, including donburi, is 20 or over, so it is quite expensive. Paper cups and paper plates are given since they don't have dish washing people I guess, which doesn't match with the high price point of the restaurant. Servers usually don't refill water very often. Cash not accepted and a 1.00 credit card fee for orders under 40 was mandatory, which I found sort of disgusting since it was an unavoidable charge. I will probably go somewhere else until they lower the price and have a better experience.
Had a donburi and an okonomiyaki. It took so long, the food was served just before I lost patience. The lady tried to be nice and polite but those were only words really. Above all, the food was barely okay. Street food trucks could be much better for much cheaper. My toddler simply refused to eat. We thought he just wanted ice cream we promised to have after dinner but later he told me in private that he didn't want to eat because it's not yummy. Ridiculous price for that quality.
Very disappointed with the seafood okonomiyaki we ordered. The food was not hot when it came out and serving on the paper plate actually made it soggy instead of crispy. For $20, it was not worth the price.
Too expensive to eat with plastic cutlery. Miso Ramen was okay-ish, I wouldn't recommend it. Okonomiyaki modern style was better, can try it. Veg gyoza was also not so good. But still too expensive for the experience.
Tried their okonomiyaki, chashu ramen tonkatsu and grilled hokke hiraki (fish). Their Japanese pancakes and ramen were really good but the grilled fish was very salty. I was very disappointed that the food was served in paper plates. I expected them to at least serve food in proper ceramic plates when I’m paying $19 for a dish.$19 for a dish was high compared to most other places in Japantown that charge you average $13-$15 for a dish and the other restaurants have good ambiance and cutleries unlike izumiya. Won’t be going back here again. Giving them 3 stars for the pancakes, ramen and service.

Been coming here for years and i love it. Unfortunately I moved away and got back to visit SF. Happy to see it is still in business. Best okonomiyaki in the bay area.
We wanted okonomoyaki specifically and this place claimed to specialize in it- so we ignored the first red flag (place was empty while everywhere else had a waitlist) and gave it a shot. The okonomiyaki arrived just room temperature with a couple warm-ish spots after supposedly having just been cooked.. I guess they are heating up leftovers or something? The taste was mediocre at best. They also make you pay up front (no table service) and all plates, utensils, etc are disposable. Compared to other restaurants nearby it's no wonder they were empty. Don't make the same mistake we did!
Delicious okonomiyaki and many options at that! Reasonable prices and excellent, friendly service. Would definitely come back here again.
Mediocre okonomiyaki at rip off price, far from what I had in Osaka. I can do a better job myself at home. One of the worst $19 I’ve spent on food. I wouldn’t return again.
I love the okonomiyaki at this place. I’ve had both the traditional and the modern and I’d say the modern is worth it and it’s really quite heavy. It’s closest to the original stuff I had in Japan!
