J & E is a reliable spot for no-nonsense food near ZSFG. The prices are very reasonable, with plates and portions being pretty good for $10-15. The service is friendly and quick, making it an easy place to come for lunch and take the rest home for dinner. Favorites include the chicken chow mein, Wor wonton soup, and Fried chicken over rice, as well as the daily specials like the fried pork chop and noodle or rice dishes. The menu is extensive, and catering trays are also available to go. For a quick lunch, this is exactly the place. Straightforward and the food was delicious. The beef was tender and pork bbq fried rice was well seasoned. It is a five minute walk from the general hospital and it is so cheap. The service was helpful and to the point. The orange chicken over rice and the green bean and chicken over rice were piping hot and fresh. The chicken is very moist and tender. The fried rice is good. The portion is huge for its price. It's near SF general hospital so it can get very busy during lunch hours.
