I went to this place from recommendations here. Honestly, while I appreciate the hustle in the little old man running the place, the food was mid. The fried rice had no flavor. The wonton soup was okay and the pork buns were okay. After paying $60 I really wish I could have left satisfied.

I almost got robbed.
They are scamming tourists. A different amount is written on the messily written slip. When I clearly told them that the amount was different, they reluctantly produced a slip with the official amount.
The taste was okay, but I won't go there again.

Egg fried rice costs 15 yuan and only has a few shreds of egg, rice and soy sauce; the water is actually mineral water and costs 2 yuan a bottle.

I’ve been visiting this place for 4 years. Every time I come to San Francisco I visit this restaurant. The food is very good and it is always open!!! If you are looking for an unique and alternative experience you should visit, nothing fancy but very traditional. It is one man doing everything!!! He cooks, takes orders and clean, he is very funny and kind. This place is also pet friendly. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are huge.

What I miss about living in SF is the hole in the wall Chinese restaurants serving delicious food. We stumbled upon A1 looking for a spot that was open later and I’m so glad we did. The elderly gentleman is the chef, server, and cleaner. When we ordered our food he disappeared and we heard the sizzling sounds of the seasoned wok. The food was so delicious and comforting, and we will definitely be back again on our next visit!

A pleasant & unexpected surprise to find and love this place!! We stumbled upon it while in Chinatown and we were starving. Honestly, we were skeptical upon entering but were pleasantly surprised. It is a one-man show: The sweetest man runs the restaurant, cooks, and serves. The food was EXCELLENT! We ordered: wonton soup, pork buns, Shanghai dumplings, vegetable chow mein, shrimp fried rice and chow fun. Everything was delicious!! We would definitely return ;)

First off hats off to the sole staff member, running the entire restaurant single handedly! Also, this was the only restaurant that was still accepting new patrons at 8:30pm in the vicinity which was surprising. The restaurant itself gave vibes of small street eateries in China, nothing fancy but still a hearty satisfying homely meal. Glad to have come!

We bumped into this place when the other places we were looking for had already closed at 8 and it was one of the only ones still open. Didn't realize it was cash only so had to run to an ATM a block or two away while we waited for the food. Like others said, it's one older man doing everything so we were lucky we got in before a bit of a rush and he was running around trying to make sure not to burn the food, take more orders, clear tables, tally up bills, etc. He didn't speak good English so we kind of had to point and motion to get what we wanted and there were a couple of miscommunications but it was fine. But the food was pretty good. large portions so two entrees and a couple of steamed rice bowls was more than enough for 3 adults and we had custard buns for dessert which were so so. Hole in the wall with good food.

The food was great and the portions were also big. It was a great restaurant and it only had one person running the whole restaurant. There were lots of tables ( By lots I mean enough for maybe 8 to 10 small party’s). We ordered about 1 dish for each of us ( their were 5 of use) plus the sides and we took home lots of leftovers. Depending on which plates you choose, you might want to share some of them. The phos and soups were pretty big so you could share it if you are not to hungary. The food was pricey and it was an only cash restaurant. Parking was an issue so we took the train. Other than that it was a pretty good dinner.

In the heart of Chinatown, this little Chinese restaurant is a superb discovery. It was the only one open at 10 p.m., and the owner welcomed and served us despite the late hour. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food: we ate so well!

This gentleman runs his restaurant all by himself, and it's incredible how efficient he is. Don't be fooled by appearances and go through this door: you will enjoy an excellent meal and have a good time in the company of this gentleman!!

The chef is a one man show! From the time I entered you can see the effort. No frills for sure but, he took care of the whole place. He was as quick as he could be and decent food. If you want a true authentic night from an elder who works all day to serve the public his food, this is a place to try. Was not disappointed and want to know his story. This was a great night just to get some food prepared by one man who served anyone who came in and did it all in a humble flair. Made the trip worth it!!
