We love Eastern Bakery! We have been buying from them for almost 2 decades and they never disappoint. Finding safe traditional mooncakes can be a nightmare when you have a child with a severe peanut allergy, as so many places use peanut oil. We are so greatful that Eastern Bakery makes theirs using vegetable oil instead of peanut oil. Eastern Bakery, the oldest Chinese bakery in San Francisco's Chinatown, continues to offer a wide selection of pastries and treats. Customers can easily place orders via email and pick them up promptly. The bakery accepts both cash and Zelle payments, so it's important to bring cash, as they do not take cards. This mom and pop ran bakery is a little hole in the wall with walk through take out style and very authentic food and snacks. In addition to popular items like egg tarts and pineapple buns, they also offer cakes and mooncakes for special occasions, including a vegetarian moon cake. Customers can enjoy delicious options such as Custard Tarts, Pineapple Buns, BBQ Pork Buns, and the affordable Steamed Pork Bun, all served hot and fresh from the sidewalk. They also have excellent vegan options like the black bean sesame bun, which is perfectly crispy and flaky, and sesame balls that are perfectly chewy.
