Considering how busy it was due to a big conference, the service was excellent. Food was great value. They really know how to make a good martini! The ppl up front were very accomodating in terms of allowing us to switch from our requested table upstairs to downstairs. However, it was very noisy, my issue was trying to have a conversation without practically shouting to my dinner companions.

If you are looking for a classic San Francisco restaurant, John's Grill is it. Fresh seafood and tasty cocktails are consistently prepared to perfection. The hidden gem? Order the escargot! Tender, garlicky and they will serve ample sourdough to sop us all of that delicious garlic butter. We prefer to sit upstairs so that we may enjoy the live jazz. Tres sexy.

Purtroppo suonano fino alle 9. Il cameriere porta il conto senza averlo chiesto. Carne ottima. Non esiste un kids menu

This was our first time at John's, we had a party of 9. We were immediately shown to our table and the service was immediate. Our waitress was on-point but also there when you needed without being asked. We all were impressed with the history and gorgeous presentation of the whole experience. Food was terrific. Not only will we return, I will recommend to friends.

Atmosphere is spectacular with light jazz in the background. Service was good with polite staff and adequate time between courses. Food was average with slight chemical taste to steak. Lobster was good but bisque was corn not lobster. Worth a visit

Food, service, ambience always exceptional. Fried Prawns with a baked potato. Yum. Espresso Martini for dessert. A bit loud and crowded but it was Easter.

TLDR: no air circulation on 3rd floor, problems with food orders and hasty busboys

We were a huge group so mad props to our server who took care of us, she was the highlight. As for the hasty busboys, they were definitely looking out for our water levels but they splashed water on us on a few occasions.
Most of us ordered steaks and we sent back at least 4 for being way undercooked.
On top of that, the air circulation was so poor up there, in a two hour window, a few of us had to walk down all the flights of stairs down just to go out to get air.

Popped in after being told a 2 hour wait at a competitor. John, founders grandson, greeted us warmly. Sent us over to the bar and found us a table in 10 minutes. Service was excellent, timing great. Had a pasta appetizer in a cheesy cream sauce. Sauce was complex and nuanced, silky in texture, and delicious. Wife and I had the house salad. Plentiful, fresh, well balanced amounts of all ingredients. To be fair, the leafy greens were a little large, making it awkward to eat with any grace. Small detail really. She had the ribeye, I had the strip. Grill man is a master. Both were medium rare, juicy, and had perfect grill marks. Again, to be fair, they could have had a little more seasoning.
So, cordial host, great sauce, good steak. Not the real story. Saw 25 other groups of patrons, single diners to groups of 12, receive the same calm, welcoming, faith in humanity treatment. In 2024 we all need John's.

We decided to give John's Grill another chance after a disappointing experience with a bad waiter a couple of years ago, and I’m glad we did! This time, everything was fantastic. The steak was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection, and the mashed potatoes were excellent as well. The service was much improved—friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Overall, we had a great dining experience and are happy we returned. Looking forward to visiting again!

We celebrated my husband's birthday and were not aware they had live jazz. The performers were awesome, our food was delicious and the service was great. We had a wonderful evening.
