Need a great restaurant in Union Square area. You have found it at 63 Ellis St John's. The food is wonderful and the service is great too. Next time I will try the lamb chops. This time I had Shrimp with mushrooms. Enjoyed it very much!

We had a reservation towards the end of the evening. The second we showed up, we were under pressure to order. We felt pressure the entire time. We shared a tenderloin, baked potato and mixed vegetables. The tenderloin was cooked ok but was over salted, our first baked potato was literally rotten. I thought it was a real fancy potato that they had put stuff in the middle but it actually rotten. There was only a cup of sour cream on the side, no green onion, bacon bits or salt and pepper. The carrots were under cooked and beans were practically raw. Did not realize that the majority of San Fran restaurants have a SF tax of 4.95% added to the bill prior to tip. This tax apparently is for employee health care. I personally could think of a better way of getting more out of the patrons. Overall very disappointed, staff was in a rush, rude and nowhere to be found. When it came to the end of the evening we had to wait 20min for a cork to pack our wine bottle home.

Restaurant small, narrow , the tables are very close to each other and it is very noisy! The service on the other hand is good and the dishes too!

We booked for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It was very busy and we had to wait about 20 minutes even though we had a reservation. The atmosphere was good. Everybody seemed to be enjoying the food and their beverages of choice. We had a good meal.

Loved John's Grill. Authentic, historic, great food and service. Would absolutely come back and 100% recommended.

In at 6pm. Excellent, efficient service. Great food. A bit pricey but it is SF. Packed to rafters!! Actually good to see, makes the world seem normal again. We had a table right by the bar - over the top noisy, but it is a small place. Be back every time we can.

We had a fantastic time. The tortolone is amazing and the lamb chops were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend them. Always a great time at John's Grill. Cheers, Lori

Everything was great. Menu made me feel nostalgic - in a good way. Service was good. Liked the live music but did find that it made the noise level on the second floor just a touch too high. Would definitely go again. And do recommend.

Excellent food. Me and my ground ordered two different foods. I took classic New York strip with fries and my friend took the restaurant signature burger. Both were excellent as were the side dishes.

So happy to see that Johns Grill has not lost its magic. Steaks, sides and cocktails were all excellent and reasonably priced. Service was attentive and accurate. You feel the Old SF vibe. Highly recommend!

They had excellent vegan meatballs that are not on the menu. They absolutely should put them on the menu, they were wonderful. My only note is that the restaurant was too loud to talk.

This place is amazing and surprisingly reasonable given the level of experience. Will definitely visit again next time we're in town!

Nice restaurant, music a bit too lowd and crowdy. Food is good enough.

Glad to see this historic restaurant. We unfortunately were seated near the door, and the cold breeze was quite significant. great espresso martini but the rest of the food was only somewhat above average for a good steakhouse.
