Loved John's Grill. Authentic, historic, great food and service. Would absolutely come back and 100% recommended.
In at 6pm. Excellent, efficient service. Great food. A bit pricey but it is SF. Packed to rafters!! Actually good to see, makes the world seem normal again. We had a table right by the bar - over the top noisy, but it is a small place. Be back every time we can.
We had a fantastic time. The tortolone is amazing and the lamb chops were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend them. Always a great time at John's Grill. Cheers, Lori
Everything was great. Menu made me feel nostalgic - in a good way. Service was good. Liked the live music but did find that it made the noise level on the second floor just a touch too high. Would definitely go again. And do recommend.
So happy to see that Johns Grill has not lost its magic. Steaks, sides and cocktails were all excellent and reasonably priced. Service was attentive and accurate. You feel the Old SF vibe. Highly recommend!

They had excellent vegan meatballs that are not on the menu. They absolutely should put them on the menu, they were wonderful. My only note is that the restaurant was too loud to talk.

Nice restaurant, music a bit too lowd and crowdy. Food is good enough.

Glad to see this historic restaurant. We unfortunately were seated near the door, and the cold breeze was quite significant. great espresso martini but the rest of the food was only somewhat above average for a good steakhouse.

I was about to eat alone in my hotel room while my group was at an event. I’m so glad I changed my mind. I had a seat at the bar and was so kindly welcomed by Alexis(I hope I spelled his name right.)It was Saturday night. He made a fabulous Old fashioned. I had the beet salad which was delicious, a perfect filet mignon, delicious red wine and he forced😀me to try the chocolate mousse. He was amazing to watch as he worked so hard. He needs a bonus. Always smiling. The atmosphere was perfect. Sometimes going alone is just what you need. Had some good conversations with folks next to me. Thank you! I shall return. I’m sure I burned the calories with all the walking.

Had to try this place while we were in SF, but we were only able to get in for lunch since dinners were booked out a while. Loved the inside of the restaurant and ambiance, definitely had an old school feel to it. Even for a late lunch it was extremely busy, was a little loud but not so much that you couldn’t converse with your table. The lobster bisque was amazing, very rich and flavorful. The fisherman’s pasta so delicious and very filling. The filet mignon was extremely tender but was just a little overcooked which is the only reason for only 4 stars. The bread pudding was outstanding as well. The staff here are wonderful, everyone is very nice and attentive even when they were getting slammed during the lunch rush. Overall, an amazing dining experience.
