3.5 stars - Excellent vibe and drinks. Service was friendly but slow. Food was just ok, and portions are small, so feels overpriced. Joodang is in the tenderloin, so inevitably, the area is a bit sketchy. This didn't stop us because I had been wanting to try this place since it opened! You just have to be careful and aware of your surroundings - nothing surprising if you're familiar with the TL. The exterior is quite unassuming. You could easily walk past it if you're not paying attention. The inside of the restaurant on the contrary is bright, modern, chic and clean. We had an early dinner reservation for 4 people on a Friday night and were cheerfully greeted and seated right away upon arrival. The restaurant quickly filled up, but I appreciated that the tables were comfortably spaced out and it didn't get too cluttered. They have Asian inspired cocktails. We each ordered a different one and they were all both aesthetic and delicious! We also ordered 2 bottles of soju to sip on throughout the meal. Loved how friendly and encouraging the staff was of us keeping the alcohol flowing! :-p Though the food was fine, I'd have to say the drinks were way more memorable than the food. Everything is meant to be shared, but be warned that the portions are quite small. We ordered: - Beef tartar: Tasted fresh, well balanced - Risotto: One of my favorite dishes of the meal. The portion was pretty small though. - Bulgogi tater tots: tbh can't remember what the official dish name was, but it was essentially loaded tots, topped with bulgogi. I enjoyed this dish and its flavors, but didn't find it to be particularly special. - Korean Fried Chicken: Portion size for this was extremely disappointing, as we just received a few wings on a plate. They were flavorful, but not worth ~$18. - Kim Chi Udon: Good flavors. I enjoyed the toppings too - Pork Belly Cheese Doboki - I will not be ordering this again next time. While it sounded promising, this was just way too pricey ($26) for a dish that lacked flavor. And unfortunately, the texture of the rice cake felt like it was microwaved from frozen. I really want to support Joodang still, and I hope they succeed. The staff was super friendly and nice. However, some of our food took a while to come out (which generally is fine), but we had to ask them to check on our order and also for the bill at least 2-3x. With that said, I really hope they can work out the kinks because they have a great concept and a lot of potential.

This is one of my new favorite Korean fusion spots in SF! Despite the location being in TL, the moment you step inside you're transformed into a trendy modern atmosphere. Our server was super nice and recommended many dishes to us. My top favorites were definitely the miso crab risotto, scallop, and kimchi shrimp carbonara! 10/10 must try!

If I could give this place a higher rating, I would... Found JooDang in a recent article highlighting new top restaurants in SF (2024). I'm such a huge fan of Asian foods, so when I saw this place, I knew I had to try it. While in a dodgy area of SF, it's worth visiting. Rolling up, I noticed the restaurant front is very unassuming. Darker tones, and clean lines outside give the impression that the inside is likely elevated and higher quality than your normal eatery. AND I WAS RIGHT. The place is nice and intimate, yet light and airy. There's bar seating, then a cute dining room separated by hanging wooden partitions. There are cute charges on each table and a nice refresher bar for the servers to quickly grab water glasses and extra utensils. Speaking of servers, they were incredible. I know of one person named Jeffrey who introduced himself upon check-in, and then there was a very sweet gal who worked with him in tandem. They were attentive, always checked in on us, cordial and approachable. They knew (through my reservation) that we were there for a birthday, so surprised us with a glass of champagne at the end. The details of service were top notch. As for dinner, we were recommended to get 4 plates for two guests. Here's what we got: - Craft Seasonal Cocktails - I got the Asian 75 (Lychee, lemon, Korean spirit, soju topped with champagne) for $15 and the Banbe Morning (passion fruit, orange, mango apple soju topped with berries as garnish) for $15. My favorite of the two was the Banbe Morning - so sweet and full of the passion fruit flavor. I could drink 10 of those!!! - Kanpachi Truffle for $23 - Freshly sliced Amberjack, fried garlic, ponzu, and truffle. The kanpachi was being sliced right when we arrived so we knew we had to get it! It was sooooo fresh and flavorful. The ponzu was a nice touch and of course TRUFFLE! I also like the micro greens on top which offered a nice crunch. - Crab Miso Risotto for $21. Miso cream with red crab and scallions. This was a highly recommended dish from our server and it did not disappoint! There were pieces of crab throughout the risotto and the flavor of crab resonated through! I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND this dish!! -Truffle Bulgogi for $29. This was one of my favorite dishes of the night! Sweet soy marinated thinly sliced ribeye with mushrooms, kimchee, sprouts and served with sesame rice. Mix everything and you get flavors that are complex, yet feels/tastes like the bi-bim bap dish we all know so well. The flavors were elevated and every bite made me want more and more. LOVE LOVE! - Porkbelly Cheese Doboki for $26. Pork belly with creamy rice cake and cheese, topped with shaved cabbage. This was also an AH-MAZE-ING dish. The doboki was layered in first with tons of cheese, the pork belly was cooked with gochugang-ish sauce and onions, then framed around the doboki. Dive in and watch an amazing cheese pull. Sooooo good! This place is great for a night out with a friend or the best option for a date night with the boo. I can't wait to return with my husband and try other amazing dishes. Thanks, JooDang!

One of the best restaurants in sf now. It's like a japanese yakitori had a baby with korean fine dining. Beautiful food! Worth the a trip to the less than perfect neighborhood. Jimmy is super fun and the team makes it like a party in a michelin restaurant. The bar is fun to sit at. Love these guys

I walked through the Tenderloin at night to try this spot, but the only dish I liked was the makgeolli ice cream. I made a same day OpenTable reservation for the next hour and got there 10 min early. We saw some open tables, but they said we had to wait which was understandable since we were early. They asked if we wanted to take a temporary seat while we waited so we agreed. I got the bae cocktail while we waited, but on the menu it didn't say that was made with soju; I wished I got a makgeolli drink. They ended up giving us utensils and serving us food at our temporary seat, but the staff was nice and tried to make it comfortable for us. We got to chat with them. We got the kanpachi truffle, seared scallop, and the wagyu bibimbap that the server recommended. I later saw they had a wagyu kimchi fried rice on the menu so I asked our server about it. He said he recommends the bibimbap over the kimchi fried rice because it's very spicy, but the kitchen hasn't made it yet so we can change it. I ended up changing it since I usually like kimchi fried rice more than bibimbap. While it wasn't too spicy, the fried rice was very wet and mushy; I didn't like the rice in that dish or the rice under the seared scallops. The scallops also weren't seared that well, and the amberjack was slightly fishy and had too much ponzu. Later one of the servers told me he's a sushi chef and I asked him if he cooked the rice; he said no, the kitchen staff did and admitted they didn't cook it well. The only dish I liked was the hotteok with makgeolli maple syrup ice cream. The server proudly said the ice cream is his homemade recipe.

My boyfriend and I stopped here for a date night after seeing someone recommend it online, and honestly, it didn't disappoint. When we arrived, we didn't make a reservation, but the host was really nice to double-check the reservations for us, and to our luck, somebody had just canceled, so he sat us right away. This prompt service was consistent for the rest of our visit. The ambiance here is great--dim lighting, clean, and modern. Everything we ordered was pretty good, however I did feel that the kimchee fried rice was pretty wet and salty, which is not my preference. As for everything else, I would definitely order again, especially the corn cheese and bulgogi fries--they're so full of flavor! Their drinks are amazing too!

The food here was really good and the drinks were even more amazing!! The bulgogi fries were a bit heavy and made us full really fast but overall delicious. The seared scallops were also tasty (but dont eat all the rice if you ordered a bunch of food LOL it gets filling fast here)! And for the main entree i had the kimchi shrimp stir fry which is a must try!! I ordered two of the asian 75? I forgot what it was called exactly but it was sooo good! It took a while for us to get each dish but the service overall was really great that it made up for it. However the table was a bit weird since i had to move it to get past this metal bar and into the set?? Not sure if I'm the only one with the issue but it's really minor. Overall a really great restaurant -- especially considering how new it is! Definitely going to come back here for some korean apps and their drinks!

Fun twist on some Korean dishes! Portions are small so you have to order a lot, we rlly liked the kimchi udon, the crab risotto, and the beef tartar. I wouldn't rlly recommend the rice dishes cause they're pretty basic but everything else was good! Attentive service and cool modern decor inside.

Food: This restaurant was very hyped up on instagram and unfortunately I don't think it deserves the hype. The food is okay. It's not bad but for the price, I didn't find the taste or appearance to be worth it. Service: Attentive service. Food orders came out quick. Ambiance: The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. Table settings were fancy. Definitely more upscale than your standard Korean restaurant. The one thing that detracts from the restaurant is the location (the heart of the Tenderloin). We went in the night time and it was a very sketchy experience. It was difficult to find the restaurant too because the windows are all glazed so you can't see outside

Worth the insta hype! Wish there was a bit more food in terms of quantity especially at these prices but some are tapas so it feels like fine dining with small portions. We ordered the wagyu kimchi fried rice, pork belly cheese tteobokki, creamy seafood udon and crab risotto. Enjoyed all the dishes but my favorite was the creamy seafood udon. It had a nice kick to it and good portion of seafood in it. The egg in the wagyu fried rice made the rice a tad soggy but the wagyu was nice and tender. The crab risotto was made well al dente and you can taste the truffle. Pork belly cheese tteobokki could've used more pork belly in my opinion but good amount of cheese for the cheese pulls and tteobokki was a good texture, still bouncy. Only complaint is that the food took a while to the point where we had to ask if it were coming after 30 minutes and the owner and servers checked on us. Great customer service though that they offered us free soju shots (very smooth and i usually hate original soju) and a tapa for the wait, which was super nice. Both the owner and bartender were extremely friendly and apologetic. Cute space, ambiance and lighting is set for date nights. You can see the kitchen to the front side which was cool. Not a whole lot of seating so i recommend making a reservation. I want to come again to try more dishes and maybe some cocktails!

IVE NEVER EVER WRITEN A BAD REVIEW IN MY LIFE. I WAITED ALMOST TWO HOURS FOR SMALL PORTIONS AND MEDIOCRE FOOD FOR A 187$ BILL. My party ordered two wagyu roast and they measly got three little small bite size wagyu on top of rice.. FOR 23$ FOR EACH ONE, IS BEEN ALMOST 30-40 MINS FOR THAT. Next we ordered fried chicken.. it took an extra 30 mins for 5 pieces THAT WASNT EVEN FRIED.. FOR NORMAL CHICKEN ONLY ONE OF THEM WAS EVEN A DRUMB STICK THE OTHER FOUR WERE LITTLE SMALL CHICKEN.. FOR THAT IT WAS 17$ FOR FIVE SMALL PIECES. THE ONLY GOOD PART was the ice cream towards the end.. ohh wait they forgot my main course that’s 28$ Truffle bulgogi MIND IVE BEEN WAITING FOR AN 1:30 minutes FOR A LITTLE PLATE THAT WAS SUPPOSED COME BEFORE MY DESSERT. I KNOW THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS STILL NEW BUT DAMN.. THE WAIT WASNT WORTH THE FOOD. WASTED ALMOST TWO HOURS FOR BITE SIZE FOOD. Never coming back. Still LEFT HUNGRY, almost FILLED UP WITH THE WATER THEY KEPT REFILLING.

Holy cow, one of the best meals I can remember in SF. The food was top notch at every course. The kimchi udon was life changing. Crab risotto is a must try. The potstickers were insane. Even the soju cocktails (which I'm usually weary of) were the best I've had. Service was very attentive and fantastic. This place is still newer and will definitely get really popular. Joodang is next level and will undoubtedly be a new staple for my wife and me moving forward.

Just two hours before my scheduled reservation on Valentine's Day, I received a phone call requesting that my reservation be moved 45 minutes earlier due to overbooking. This was already an inconvenience, but what made matters worse was learning about the prix-fixe menu priced at $160 plus gratuity for the evening. I was taken aback by the lack of transparency regarding the prix-fixe menu, which was not mentioned on your website or booking platforms. This information, had it been provided earlier, would have greatly influenced my decision to dine at your restaurant. Ultimately, I chose to cancel my reservation and book elsewhere. As a potential first-time diner, I was unwilling to spend $500 on a meal I had yet to sample. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of communication and inconvenience experienced on Valentine's Day were disappointing.

saw Joodang as a suggested place in my area and decided to give it a try! i made reservations for three but waited for a bit of time before we could be seated. i didn't mind the wait as i really enjoyed the ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant- it was quaint and modern! we started out with some signature cocktails. after being sat, the service was great and quite fast. our waiter was very nice and attentive! only downside, was that it was hard finding the restaurant as there was no signage outside to point it out and the kimchi fried rice was too spicy that it was hard to enjoy it ~

I had a friend gathering here and the ambiance is great for a pregame before a night out. The food was delicious. I ordered the crab risotto, fried rice, tartare, and pork belly with rice cake. The staff was super friendly and even showed my friend how he made our cocktails. Can't wait to come back for the food and drinks.
