During the Edo period, many could not afford to display ohinasama at home. Instead, tsurushi bina dolls were crafted and gained popularity. These dolls were made with pieces of kimono and then made into the likes of plum, sakura, rabbits, dogs and vegetables. The smaller dolls were then vertically put up by thread. Each tsurushi bina has its own meaning and is used as a token wish for the future happiness of girls. For instance, rabbits represent kindness, hydrangeas – family bond, and carrots – wealth.

Let me start by saying I enjoy wagashi and Japanese sweets very much. While this shop itself looks nice and has an interesting selection, I found the chestnut financier to be so very dry and lacking flavor. I would not go back for a financier based on this texture. The service is pleasant and the packaging is nice. I would come back to try something less in danger of drying out and would perhaps inquire which items are most freshly imported.
