Best udon in SF by far. I’m Japanese and I can vouch for the fact that the noodles here would be hard to beat even in

Food is great! Environment is clean. It is not meant for hanging out for a long time just like the many ramnen/ udon places in Japan, as there were only stools and not comfy chair.I really like the udon I got and I would definitely come back for other flavours. But I wish they have more vegetarian options (especially warm udon)Vegetarian options: Only one cold udon is vegetarian, but it is really good, flavourful and a bit spicy. Hope there could be at least one warm vegetarian udon.

Great udon spot with tasty tempura and flavorful dashi soup. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a cute and unfussy vibe. A delightful spot for a comforting and satisfying meal!

I’ve had pretty much everything on the menu. My favorite is the tan tan dry.None of them really come with a lot of protein so I add in tempura shrimp making the meal pretty $$$$ tbh. Seating can be hard to find so there’s usually a wait too.

Very friendly employees and yummy food. There aren’t a ton of tables so it can get crowded with a line forming outside but it really depends on the timing. We had no problem on a Friday at 6.

Arrived around 6pm on a Friday night and the line went fast. The service was really nice and the food came out quickly. The tan tan noodles had great flavor and the niku beef had a very soothing broth which was perfect for the rainy weather. Would definitely go back, but not sure I'd stand in a super long line for the food, it's great but not mind-blowing.

I saw a video about this place and wanted to try it out as people claim it's better than Marugame Udon. I came around 6:30pm and there was a small line of 2-3 outside the store. I thought it would be quick but we still waited about 30 minutes. The store itself is very small and had people who ordered and were waiting for a table inside as well. The way to order is you get called into the store to order at the register. You pay first then get seated once a table is available. When we got sat, food came fairly quickly so the food was fresh. Kakiage: 3/5 Not sure if it was an off day but my soup did not taste like much. It was very bland and didn't have much flavor. It was just alright. Niku Beef My partner had this and I only had a taste of the soup but it was definitely more flavorful and tasty. They seemed to have enjoyed their bowl so maybe my bowl just wasn't my cup of tea. Nonetheless, the service was amazing and I had a great meal, very filling.

Great casual udon place in SF! Come here to catch up with your friends or a quick casual weeknight dinner. Have tried nearly every warm udon option and they're all good! Noodles are perfectly cooked and chewy. Slightly skinnier than udon noodles I'm used to, but still just as good. The tan tan spicy dry udon is unique and stands out! Small seating area with no waitlist. If you come ~5pm opening or near closing there shouldn't be any wait, but expect 15-25 min wait otherwise.

Do you like bolognese? Do you like udon noodles? Look no further than the Tan Tan Dry udon. I loved it and I will be back to eat through the entire menu. The folks at Katsuo & Kombu do not play.

Excellent handmade udon. The beef curry udon was very very delicious with nice crispy kale. Do order from the QR code or online menu for more options instead of the menu on display at the counter. The chili powder mixture has a very nice yuzu taste to it.

Had been on my to try list for so long and was so happy to get it on a cold day. Went around 7 pm on a week night and had to wait for about a half an hour in line to get seated. Once you get in, you order from the counter and they bring it to your table, it comes out really quick. The restaurant is pretty small and tight seating but very modern and they have baskets where you can place your items under your table. Niku Udon - It was priced reasonably (18 dollars) and was a good portion size. The dish came with wagyu beef and gobo tempura. The beef was so soft and the tempura batter was light and it was my first time trying gobo, burdock root, and I really enjoyed it. My favorite part was the soup, it had a rich savory flavor to it but was light at the same time. Ebi Tempura - The shrimp tempura was tasty and the batter was perfectly crispy and airy. The only small nitpick I have about this was it was 3 dollars for one piece of tempura. My friend tried the Kakiage Udon and she liked the mixed root vegetable tempura which was huge and remained crispy for a long time. One of my new favorite noodle places, would strongly go again and try their cold noodle options too on a warmer day.

I thought the udon here was good, but not amazing. The noodles were not chewy and they were flat noodles. The broth was okay, but didn't have much flavor. I also thought the beef and tempura tasted okay, but it didn't have much flavor. We had to wait 30+ minutes for a table, the place is very small. The waitstaff were very friendly and they are good about cleaning up quickly after each table leaves. I didn't think this udon was worth the wait.

Delicious hand made udon. You can’t go wrong with any of the choices. I’ve tried the Niku, Curry, Tan Tan, and Yam udons and they were all good in their own ways. Will have to wait in line during peak hours but it moves fast.
