i picked up my order of 5 different chinese dishes at this restaurant kirin in geary street.i got home and ate the honey walnut prawns and at the middle of eating i found a hair stucked in the shrimp which looked like a rat's hair.i started throwing up trying to vomit the shrimps i ate,i can't see any hair in my food its so gross it makes me throw up.i called the restaurant about 8:20 pm to report and complaint but theres nobody picking up the phone ,i did not leave the message because its full .that ruined my appetite and made me nauseaus during the night.i think the kitchen is dirty they should wipe the counter before cooking or something to make it clean.

This place has been a family favorite for the last 20+ years. A must try that requires ordering in advance is the steamed winter melon soup and also the sticky rice stuffed in chicken skin. The dishes that are part of this post were the dishes we enjoyed ringing in the Year of the Dragon. Parking in the neighborhood isn't easy but isn't difficult.

Order the Salt and Pepper wings for takeout. When I got back to work. Took a bit of the first wing. It was sour. The chicken was bad and old. I didn't have time to take it back and I was so upset I dumped it out.

Yesterday we met up with our friends whom we hadn't seen since before the pandemic. That in itself made our dining experience a nice one. Friends familiar with Kirin kept saying the restaurant is always empty. That wasn't the case yesterday. There was a steady stream of diners. Maybe in the past the restaurant was packed but in these times of inflation and high prices..... One couple in our group is well known as they're frequent diners here so we always BYOB and no corkage. The six of us each ordered a dish, and two dishes were comp'd. Shoutouts: include the * hung tao yee fu won ton soup. The won tons are ample size and nicely deep fried and served in a soupy broth. * the salt and pepper chicken wings were crunchy on the outside and moist inside. Piping temperature hot and good size wings. Other dishes ordered: * beef stew over chow fun. * clams with black bean sauce. * lobster lo mein. * fried calamari * oyster sauce beef with pea spouts. Every dish was tasty and good portion size. We found street metered parking 1/2 block up. A nice luncheon with nice friends.

Dining here reminded me of my younger days when my family ate here often. My late dad was good friends with the original owner. I think the restaurant is now owned by one of the original owner's sons. We were the only two dine-in tables there on a Saturday night. There were quite a few takeout orders during our 2-2.5 hours there. I honestly don't know how restaurants survive in today's economy, so I try to do my part in supporting small restaurants and businesses. This is a restaurant I will start supporting and coming to more often again. The food here is as delicious as I can remember. We ordered the special family dinner for $238 for 8 people for both tables. This included rainbow chicken salad, fish maw with crab meat soup, ginger and green onion chicken, ginger and green onion lobster, walnut prawns, black mushroom tender greens with braised tofu, salt and pepper spareribs and deep fried whole flounder. We also got two extra lobsters which we added lo mein to as the lobsters were free with a minimum spend of $200 per table. We also ordered the stuffed chicken with sweet rice (this is an advance order dish). We all stuffed ourselves and still had plenty of leftovers to take home. Parking is challenging, but not impossible in this area. The dining room looked like it hadn't been remodeled since we last dined here over 15 years ago. The chairs were sadly repaired with duct table to hide the rips and tears. Service was wonderful and there was no corkage charge for the wine we brought in.

This is an old Chinese Restaurant in the Richmond District possibly the last existing one for 40+ yrs. Popular among the local seniors after Church on Sundays. The food is just OK for the ABC's or longtime Richmond residences. Had the whole chicken stuffed w/stick rice due to the host's rave about it & the sweet n' sour chicken & both was only all OK. I would only if I'm near the area. The Singapore rice noodle was good w/da right amount of curry.

I'm hoping it was an off night. I have been coming here for years but tonight everything was a little bit off. Instead of favorable, everything was too salty. The Peking Duck did not have crispy skin and the meat dishes were very salty. I will try again as from experience that night was an off night.

Whoever cooked the dinner meals for Sunday, September 18, 2022, really over did the MSG. All three of us complained about the saltiness of our meal. This morning, Monday, September 19, 2022, all three of us woke up with a sour feeling in our mouth-which confirmed it was over doing the MSG. I hope the owner or manager read this review. Anymore future visits to this restaurant-I don't know yet. But I really hope they correct the problem. Thank you.

Great food. Amazing staff. The man was super nice. I've never been here before it was my 1st time, the food was definitely authentic. Good portion and pricing wasn't bad at all. I will definitely come back.

My friends and I have been going to Kirin (SF) for years and always order the same things- salt and pepper everything! We always call the day before and order the wintermelon soup in advance and place a order for the rainbow salad. But, there seemed to be some miscommunication and there was no wintermelon soup!!! Oh no, what do we do now!?! How the heck can you forget when we called the day before?!?!?Kirin was a good neighborhood Chinese restaurant and has no claim to be "gourmet" or "fancy". No frills. Unfortunately I don't know if it has to do with lack of business or pandemic, but, I honestly think the food has slowly gone downhill. Don't get me wrong, most items were good including beef w/ asparagus and salt and pepper wings.I hate to say it, but, I think they used old crab that was previously cooked and reheated? I'm sorry, the meal I last had was not quite worth a 300 dollars. You will lose good customers like me if you "overcharge" and think you got away with it.
