Always wanted to dine here. Stopped by the other night. Overall, a pleasant experience, but nothing that wowed me.

The food was good - but in a city like San Francisco with so many standout sushi spots, it didn’t quite rise to the top. I’ve had better sushi elsewhere in town, so it didn’t leave a lasting impression.

Service, on the other hand, was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and everything came out smoothly, no complaints there. The vibe was fine too: comfortable and low-key, but not particularly memorable or unique in a city full of more visually or atmospherically interesting places.

All in all, I enjoyed my meal and appreciated the hospitality, but it’s probably not a place I’d go back to. Solid, but not that special for a second visit (to me).

Came here three times. Always enjoyed the high quality and taste of the dishes. The zeitgeist (if I spelled that correctly) is my favorite

I gave them a call after being notified that our reservations for the location on Polk street was cancelled due to a leakage in the building and the lady directed me to make a reservation on Resy instead of answering if there is any availability for a walk in for 2. After I asked if there’s availability again she immediately hung up the phone. It was super disrespectful and I didn’t appreciate being hunged up on when I was respectful and asking a genuine question. Amazing food but the service was absolutely uncalled for.

Food and staff were excellent. Omakase was fantastic and reasonably priced. Rio and Chewy were fantastic.

got the chirashi — loved that it came with purple rice, also had the chef’s tasting menu w 8 piece nigiri! fresh fish and good portions, would come back. casual setting, good for work / group dinners.

Best in S.F. especially with Armando!

I enjoyed the chef's choice—it was well-designed with layers of flavors that made each bite interesting. The server also did a great job explaining the order in which to eat the sushi, which enhanced the experience. However, I was surprised to find a fish bone in one piece of sushi, especially at such a pricey restaurant. On a positive note, the atmosphere and decor were amazing, making it a nice place to dine overall.

I have eaten in the restaurant 3 times and ordered delivery once. The first two times I ate inside the sushi was good. Some rolls definitely better than others but I was happy enough to come back. The third time I ate there, the food quality had gone down. Sushi was okay but not terrible. I ordered takeout and this was the last straw. The quality of the sushi was so bad, some rolls were inedible. Also they forgot to include wasabi and ginger. I tried to contact the restaurant to let them know and did not receive any response or even an email from them to explain why they didnt include wasabi or ginger - which I know is very present when you dine in. I am not ready to count this place out- but definitely will not be back for some time and will not order delivery anymore. My ratings for service and food incorporate both the positive and negative experiences.

Kuma is fantastic and the combination of excellent small plates, great rolls, ome kase, fresh sake. Definitely a good find and easy to park nearby!

Their chirashi bowl used to be the best value for quality sushi in SF. A few months ago it felt like they adjusted the quantity down. After ordering delivery tonight and comparing again to my photos I took in the past, I definitely can confirm the quantity went down. Really disappointing and no longer worth the price ?
