My grandfather came here almost everyday up until he was in his hospital bed. I used to visit him and his friends here after playing at Richmond Rec Center around the corner. I moved out of state a couple of years ago and I came for the first time as an ever since my grandfather passed away. I ordered my bbq pork buns - however I mispronounced soy milk in Cantonese. The person preparing my order (I used to see her all the time growing up) scolded me that I am just like her son who doesn’t know any Chinese.
All in all - the food here is comforting and the prices great, however, I have never felt more farther from my grandfather until my visit today

You don’t come here for service or atmosphere you come for pork buns and pineapple, custard buns, and all other delicious Chinese baked goods. It is not cute or Instagramable but tasty.
Kid-friendliness: It’s not. Very small space inside for seats. The food the kids will love but not the best indoor space.

Only a place like this can invoke memories and nostalgia like no other. Some would call this a whole in the wall bakery, I’d call it a portal to southern china. The pastries here are so delicious, my favorite is the pork bun, I’ve been getting it since I was a kid. Today I had the experience of getting one fresh out of the oven. It was so warm that I had to let it sit for 5 mins to cool down.
I can’t recommend this place enough, places like this are some of the fabric which holds neighborhoods together.

First time coming here, you'll probably buy 1 of each (BBQ pork bun, pineapple with char siu bun, spam and egg bun, cocktail bun, and others). Second time coming here, you'll buy 7 BBQ pork buns because they're that tasty and you don't mind eating them for breakfast for a week.
Side note, if you want to buy curry buns like I did, come in the afternoon; that's when they make them (or so I was told).

The pork buns are AMAZING. I live close and am guilty of going multiple times a week. Sometimes I call in and ask if they’ve sold out for the day because they go FAST! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 A true gem to the city. Will ALWAYS be a neighborhood fave. I love how games are played as the elders sit inside and take and enjoy each others company. I love that it is a communal space.
