This is the perfect spot for when you're craving a soothing bowl of pho. The staff were welcoming and kind, and the restaurant is cozy. I went at an off time so the service was pretty quick. Their hours are pretty particular with a few hours around lunch and another few hours in the evening, so make sure to pay attention to that when looking to come here.I got the pho ga which had a hearty chicken broth and a good amount of chicken breast. It really hit the spot.

$16 for a small plate of stir fry veggies. Underwhelming … soy sauce was the dominant flavor. Very disappointingGood service though,

This is my favorite place to go for pho in SF. The food is authentic and so good - my wife says it's as good as anything she had when she was in Vietnam. I always get the lemongrass beef pho and my wife gets the combo pho, but we've tried a lot on the menu and it's all been great. The staff is very friendly and remembers us each time we come in. The restaurant itself is a little outdated and very quiet (no music or anything playing inside) but the food and service easily make up for it. I always recommend this place to friends looking for good pho in SF.Parking: Metered parking

We went twice. The first time was very good, super authentic Vietnamese. 5 spice chicken was fresh and tender. Few weeks passed by we tried again. We could not even touch the food. Not sure what happened to the chef. We went across Burma Star instead....

We have been here many many times. We personally do not like oily pho soup. Mais' broth soots our tastes. Clean, less greasy than some other vietnamese pho restrauants. We always enjoy the food, the family oriented service and slow place. Just be patient. If you are in a hurry, come here when you have more time.

Pho is super authentic and fragrant. Really nice owners as well. I will come back often!
Their pho dish has a nice ratio of noodles and flanks as well as garnishes on the side! Comparatively to the flanks I've gotten to eat their texture aren't as chewy as the others and its less fresh however the restaurant gave a a lot of them so I wont complain. I really like the service! Although I came by 10 mins before the restaurant would close, they allowed me to order as well as stay a bit after the closing time as Im finishing (not encouraging to do). The ambiance in the restaurant has a nice family restaurant cozy feel to it! Overall I recommend going to Mai's when you wanna try other pho restaurants in San Fran!

No frills, good prices, and the best beef brisket pho I’ve ever had. The lemongrass bbq short rib over cold rice noodles was so so so so good.
Inside smelled like a very old storage /garage 120yrs old. Nasty stains on curtains. I should’ve really left… 7spice chicken did NOT taste like one.. but tasted like a cross between Chinese chicken with little bit of Vietnamese 7spices and ton of sugar…. Ugh

Came here for a nice quiet lunch despite the loudness of the farmers market outside. Street parking around this time is always difficult. We had the Vietnamese iced coffee which was strong. Lemongrass pork chop was moist and also had good char. Special pho was good. Broth still felt clean.

I stopped by Mai's because I was craving some imperial rolls over some vermicelli noodles. From this single experience and from ordering this single dish, I have a few thoughts. Mai's is a quaint and unassuming restaurant - it has a very old-school feel inside which is common amongst restaurants along Clement. The service was good and the food was prepared in a timely manner. I had the "imperial roll and bbq chicken over rice noodle" plate, which came with a single fried imperial roll, pickled carrot/veg and bean sprouts all over a generous serving of chicken and noodles. The imperial roll was okay. I thought it tasted good, but the meat inside felt dense and very homogeneous. The chicken tasted great, especially with the sauce that the plate comes with. I think if the imperial roll was just a bit better quality, I would have loved it. However, I was a bit underwhelmed. It seems like other people have had better experiences with other dishes here, so I am looking forward to being back at Mai's to try out something different.
