S/o to the waiter Esteban who made sure we have an amazing time even though the kitchen ran out of my first choice. His recommendations and enthusiasm helped make me the experience better

Really disappointing experience at what’s supposed to be the only primarily Chinese Michelin-starred restaurant in the USA. Before we even got there, I called seven times and sent two emails trying to reschedule our reservation — crickets. No response, no callback, nothing. When we showed up, they didn’t even acknowledge that we’d been trying to reach them.
I’ll give them credit for the ambience being pretty nice, and the portion sizes were actually bigger than I expected. But I couldn’t help noticing we were one of the very few (if not only) Chinese diners there, which felt a bit odd.
The service was all over the place. Our waiter rarely checked in to see how things were, would rush over to clear plates while we were still eating, but then vanished whenever we actually needed something. We tried flagging them down multiple times just to order a drink. And here’s the kicker — they made it sound like an extra dessert was “on the house” for a birthday, then it showed up on the bill.
The food was hit or miss. The snack course (shrimp chips, mala peanut, carrots with tofu sauce) was honestly amazing — creative use of traditional Chinese ingredients done right (8/10). The dessert trio with chrysanthemum ice milk, apricot kernel jello, and nian gao was also fantastic, just the right level of sweetness (9/10). The Peking duck was solid and tender, though nothing crazy (7/10).
But then… the sea urchin dish was just meh and felt half-baked (4/10). The 36-month jinhua ham was straight up bad — tasted like frozen deli meat with random peach slices that made zero sense (1/10). And somehow they managed to over-salt basic fried rice?? (2.5/10).
For a Michelin-starred restaurant — especially one representing Chinese cuisine at this level in the US — this was really disappointing. The lack of communication, spotty service, and inconsistent food quality just didn’t match the hype. A few dishes were great, but that’s not enough to make up for everything else.

We had the peking duck menu, can't say it's my favourite in SF, but it's quite good. The food that came before that kinda stole the show. Portions were bigger you'd expect, so not gonna complain about that. They had some interesting drinks, service was amazing, I will definitely go back again, but I'll go for the A la carte menu instead next time.

This spot has been on my list for so long! I was really excited to go and was pretty surprised by how underwhelming it was. I of course was anticipating the food to be expensive, but thought the dishes would meet the level of the price tag. The food took a very long time to come out. The noodles were fine. The green beans were drenched in sauce. The dumplings were pretty good even though they only serve you 3 of them. The itty bitty desert was just okay. SF has so many phenomenal Asian restaurants, you’re better off going to any one of those for a more satisfying and less expensive meal.

We had a Wednesday reservation and when we arrived we waited on the street before the unlocked the door to let us in, 5 mins late. We ordered the menu with the duck and chose to find wines to pair with. The skin on the duck was so hard we could barely eat it. We felt like it was cooked long before and was sitting under a warmer prior to serving, which was weird because we had a 6pm reservation! Overall, we were underwhelmed with food and service.

Whoever taught you cut the cucumber in round shape with the roasted duck needs to go back to the chef class again.

Excellent meal. Hadn't visited for a while. Every dish was great. Definitely recommend the black cod.
Ate at the bar. Can't think of a better restaurant you can walk into without reservations on a Thursday night.

Cool restaurant to visit while in Chinatown.

We reserved 2-3 weeks in advance but saw some walk-ins later. You have to pay like $60 per person to confirm reservation if you go for the online option.

We visited on a Friday night. We arrived 20 minutes early and told to wait in the bar area, which was another concept located in the second floor, very cool vibe and we had drinks: Limit of Heat and Summer Solstice. Both were excellent!

We went down at the time of the reservation and still the table wasnt ready! Had to wait 15-20 minutes for the table, which for a Michelin star place is not the best.

Despite that they gave us a nice table overlooking to the street which compensates the wait in a way.

We had the summer banquet menu. Overall excellent food. We tried: Yusheng (Halibut), Eggplant, Cheong fun (Sea urchin), and Fried Rice as first and second courses. Everything was super great, favorite the Halibut and Sea Urchin.

Then we had the Peking Duck, crispy, with a pluot sauce which was super good. The only thing we weren’t expecting were the portion sizes, everything was so big, after the first courses we were almost full.

For desert we had Apricot Kernel Jello and Nian Gao. The latter was our favorite, very fresh, balanced.

Definitely visit if looking for a deluxe experience in Chinatown.

The congee is good for 2 ⭐️ . Ox tail bad, tough, not juicy. Beijing duck is terrible, the worst one. Skin is chewy. Not worthy for a second try.

The hospitality was exceptional and the wait staff was incredibly attentive throughout our visit. While I appreciate that they source from local farms, I was somewhat disappointed with the flavours in the dishes we ordered. The daikon came with a creative and interesting dipping sauce, but both the turnip cake and chow fun were salty and lacked the balanced flavours I've come to expect from Chinese cuisine. We've certainly experienced more flavorful and well-seasoned versions of these dishes at Chinese restaurants back home with a lower price point. The excellent service definitely elevated the experience, but the seasoning and flavor development could use some refinement.

Horrible.spent $1300 and didn’t even stay to finish the meal. Slow services beyond bland food.

Please note that this review is just for the à la carte menu. We ordered several dishes and all of them were fairly flat. The new potato dish was actually poor and we didn’t even finish it as it had a really strong mustard seed taste. The ciao fun had horseradish on it, but was not very flavorful. The meal was fancy, but at the end of the day it has to be good and this menu lacked flavor. Would maybe give it a try for the tasting menu, but I would skip the à la carte.

Last minute splurge, we booked the only appt, last one of the night. But luckily they notified us that an earlier spot opened up. The food took on an interesting take on Hong Kong cuisine. Our favorites were the choeng fun (with clam!), silken tofu (lots of tofu and made in-house tofu), and the chrysanthemum milk tea (lactose intolerant friendly).
