15 years of patronage, thousands spent, I can’t go back.

I started going to Muraccis in early 2009. It’s always been in the same location, but it did used to have a few inside chairs. My coworkers and me would go religiously, 2-3 times a week on average for a few years.

My job would move in and out of the downtown area, but I would always look forward to going back to Muraccis. 15 years later and the food is still great, the service is awful.

They made a mistake one order and gave me an incorrect dish, I got 40% of what I ordered. No big deal, mistakes happen, surely they’d make it up to me in some small way on the next visit. A week later I return and explain what happened to the lady at the front counter, she calls to the manager in the kitchen. I’m just looking for something small. A free croquette, a small discount. The manager doesn’t do anything for me, says she’s stuck working and I can give them the last 4 of my credit card and they can look into it possibly, but makes no promises and makes no effort to act on this. She didn’t seem remorseful at all, had an annoyed and rushed tone of voice, or even come to the counter and get the last 4. At least show a tiny bit of emotion, come to the counter to talk for 20 seconds. I run a retail shop and this is how how you should handle customer service.

Take your money somewhere else where they run their business honestly. I feel completely cheated by this business. I bought the tempura prawn donburi and it was like 80% breading and 20% prawn. The breading was so thick to the point where the prawn had no flavour at all. If I’m going to pay that much for lunch, I want at least a full prawn in my dish. It looks almost as if they sliced the prawn into many thin strips and fried each one.You don’t scam customers like that. It’s wrong. Very wrong.

Chicken katsu curry was fine—wouldn’t say noteworthy enough that I’d make a point to come again

I ordered the Katsu Curry with White Rice, Mild Spiciness. The quick and convenient store-front pick-up was a plus, and the generous portion of rice was appreciated. However, the flavor, being on the sweeter side, didn't quite align with my personal preference for a more savory taste.

Veggie udon was a delicious and hearty way to warm me up on this cold winter day. Noodles had perfect al dente resistance, vegetarian curry was mildly spicy (as ordered), had a lightly creamy texture (starchy, not dairy) and the tofu was fresh and silky instead of fried (my preference).I only needed half the curry on the noodles so will save rest for home use.Notes:Takeout only but open til 7pmYellow curry will stain so use your napkins strategically! To the Veggie Freaks like me:I would like if there were more veggies but that’s how I feel about most dishes like this anywhere. If I take home, I typically supplement with my own veggies.

Vegetarian options: You can get veggie broth instead of chicken and it’s richly flavorful

Not what it used to be ? I got the medium spicy katsu curry, and the curry was extremely salty. The rice did not helpAlso much more expensive than I remember for takeout only, this was $19

The fact that this place always has a line and the really good reviews on google made me thing I would eat the best curry ever. So I was really disappointed. I had the chicken katsu curry. It's just rice, fried chicken and a very simple curry sauce. Sure, fried chicken is always yummy, but it was so not worth the super long wait we had to endure to get our lunch. I wouldn't do it again. It's also on the expensive side for lunch (18$)

I have frequented Muracci's for years. Having tried the katsu curry at many other restaurants, I can say without hesitation that Muracci's katsu curry is the best I've had. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

[Take out only] Muracci’s curry is legendary! Oddly enough, this my first time eating their katsu curry!Fried katsu (pork) cooked upon order with choice of white or brown rice. The main comes with accompanying cabbage which is pickled (yum) and there is the traditional red pickles too.The katsu is the key point though, right? Crispy, with the finest panko type coating. Delicious! The pork is flavorful and quite a thick cutlet. Satisfying the most voracious appetite, this dish really hits the spot! This shop is the only one in the city. Their other outpost is a sit down restaurant in Berkeley.I say go here and get curry anything. In fact, with a good sauce like this I’d happily eat rice & curry sauce alone. A plus: Muracci’s lets you choose the level of hotness of the curry sauce. I like that!

I’ve been a huge fan of murracci since I discovered it nearly 10 years ago. I have spent years in Japan. This WAS the best katsu curry in America. (And I’ve searched!)I generally eat there at least 3-4 times when I’m in the city. This past week was a disaster. I don’t know if it’s changed hands recently, but the food was totally disappointing. I tried it two days in a row to make sure. It appears that there are new faces, so I’m guessing it is different. But the food is not nearly as good as it was. I’ll be back in a few months and I’ll try it one more time. But that’s how fast you lose your reputation. So disappointing. I hope it was just a bad week.
