Had a wonderful time celebrating Valentine's Day there they made the experience extra special with the service food and ambiance. Would definitely come again
While the cost of this meal was quite a wallop to the wallet, it was probably one of the best tasting meals I've ever had.
Excellent service and food. Everything meticulously presented. My only complaint is that the counter seating chairs are too close together making it hard to cut meat with someone sitting next to you.
Good food. Small and expensive portions but to be expected at a high-end steakhouse in SF. Mostly young professionals dining when we went. Not great for our young adult and teenager.
This restaurant is an absolute gem. One of the best meals and easily best FOH staff i have experienced.
First of all the service was absolutely fantastic. But the quality of food was not where I would it to be for a 1 Michelin star restaurant. This experience was similar to a lot of mid-tier steakhouses but 10x the cost. Although the service was fantastic I personally wouldn't come back again.
We had a great experience celebrating our anniversary here. They surprised us with complimentary champagne and dessert. The food, staff, and ambience was amazing. Thank you Niku for the wonderful experience!!
We had a 5:00 pm reservation for four and were the first table seated when the restaurant opened. This was a birthday dinner for my mom, which my brother, his girlfriend, and I were treating her to. For appetizers, we ordered the crispy pig ears and the Dungeness crab chawanmushi. For entrees, we ordered one tomahawk steak and one ribeye, along with broccolini, crispy potatoes, and confit maitake mushrooms. The crispy pig ears came out first, and then... nothing for TWO hours. Eventually, we were brought a small complimentary ravioli dish, but no one explained what was going on. During that time, we watched table after table that had been seated after us receive their food, while no one checked in or gave us any updates. Servers repeatedly walked right past our table without acknowledging us. We sat there hungry, with nothing on our table, and it genuinely felt like our table was being overlooked while others were clearly being attended to. The crab appetizer didn't come out until around 7:30 pm, when everything arrived at once. I don't understand why it wasn't served while we were waiting, especially since it was ordered as an appetizer. Both steaks were ordered medium well, but they came out medium rare. The ribeye also had several pieces that were overly fatty and chewy. For a $125 steak, I expected it to be cooked as requested and for the entire cut to be enjoyable. Overall, the experience felt dismissive and disappointing, especially since this was meant to be a special birthday dinner for my mom.
After several visits to Niku, this visit left a little to be desired. The food was perfect, which was to be expected, but the service wasn't up to the normal level I've come to expect for Niku, especially for the price. Drinks took forever to come out, we sat at the counter but the cooks preparing the food had no interaction with us, which had been a highlight of previous visits, our waiter was ok. I'll wait a while before going back. For a $400 dinner, we expected more.
From the minute you enter the restaurant to walking out, this is an incredible experience. Everyone was super knowledgeable and friendly. The drinks, meal and dessert were absolutely delicious. The little complementary dishes were fantastic as well. Will definitely visit again.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at this steakhouse! The food was outstanding—perfectly cooked steaks, rich flavors, and every dish felt thoughtfully prepared. You can really tell they take pride in the quality of their ingredients and execution. The service was just as impressive. The staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome from start to finish without ever being overbearing. What made the night truly special was celebrating my husband's birthday here. The team went above and beyond to make it memorable, and he had an amazing time. It was the perfect place for a special occasion, and we left feeling happy, full, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend for both an exceptional meal and an unforgettable experience!
Super delicious! The food and service was top tier. Loved their espresso martini too. Just be forewarned that their corkage is $80 per bottle. It was still an amazing experience and i would definitely go back
Both our steaks the tomahawk and ribeye came out warm at best. Service while friendly, was hard to find and get attention. Asked for wine list twice and still never came so we decided to close down the evening.
Niku delivers what true fine dining should be: world-class ingredients paired with hospitality that genuinely makes you feel seen and cared for. This wasn't just a great steakhouse dinner—it was a complete experience from start to finish. The meal opened with a beautifully composed amuse-bouche that immediately set the tone: thoughtful, refined, and balanced. What truly defines Niku, though, is the service. I ordered the potato dumplings with black truffle and ragu, and while well executed, they weren't for me. Before I could even say much, the chef noticed and immediately replaced them—an incredibly rare level of attentiveness. The replacement, the Wagyu Tsukune, was a standout: a juicy wagyu meatball skewer with a thick, fudgy cured egg yolk and tare that perfectly balanced richness and umami. For the main, I had the Bryan Flannery 14-day dry-aged New York Strip—beautiful wood-fired crust, deep beef flavor, and perfect execution. The potato pavé and fried brussels sprouts were equally impressive. The night ended with an espresso and complimentary treats: yuzu mint ice cream, a gummy bite, and a unique savory, beef-forward chocolate that was surprisingly delicious. Huge appreciation to the chef at the counter (Erik or Nick—sorry for forgetting the exact name) and Juan overseeing the counter. Their warmth and hospitality made my send-off before a tequila trip truly memorable. I'll be back—with a case of tequila of my own.
The Australian wagyu was VERY tough, as in certain bites were not chewable. Everything else was exceptional.
