Congee was incredible, but for that and an inedibly dry pumpkin loaf my bill came to $47 including the 20% I tipped (from the given options of 18-20-22%) without seeing the bit about the included extra charge. At a self-service style breakfast spot. Really epitomizes the “playground for the rich” culture of SF and puts a bad taste in your mouth.
Great food, friendly staff, nice ambiance what more could you want

Very bizarre experience. It was a busy Sunday, so the place was pretty packed. We were told that we need to grad a seat by self and then order. The “grab a seat” followed jungle rule, which means you need to fight other customers to get a table. Also after the meal, we followed the instructions to return the dishes to the designated place. Then the waitress commanded us to return the dirty glasses back to the table(bc they worry the glasses will break blah blah). Additionally, we were being pushed by staff all the time because no matter where we stood, we were magically in their way all the time.
Food is fine, very typical sf brunch food. But the service is none, and they by default charge you 5% service fee, and also ask for tips when you pay.

Manager Gabriel is unaware of our constitution. Maybe hire someone who is educated. Won't be patronizing your establishment ever.
We The People
Parking is a real nightmare. We spent at least 15 minutes circling for a spot and ended up parking about a 10-minute walk away from the restaurant, even on a Thursday night. Plan accordingly.
Inside, the tables are very small. Don’t expect to sit comfortably if you have more than a couple of dishes or just want some personal space.
That said, the food is solid. The pork chop was excellent, very flavorful with a great sauce that’s rich but not heavy. The fish was also very good. Although the restaurant is labeled “New American,” the food doesn’t really feel that way to me. The flavors are on the lighter side, not salty, and fairly straightforward. Overall, I’d rate the food an 8/10.
One more thing to note: there’s a 5% employee health fee added to the bill, and you’re still prompted to tip on top of that. I tipped an additional, bringing the total to 15%, which feels fairly standard, but if you’re not paying attention, the final amount can add up quickly.

We had the mortadela sandwich and the Dutch pancake, they’re both small. The sandwich had no sides, which I expected for the price. Coffee was fine, but not the best and no refills. No service, it’s find a table yourself, stand in line to order, grab your water and utensils.

Outerlands has it all. Great cocktails, delicious food and incredible vibe/atmosphere. I love this place because it's a nice restaurant but not too nice where you feel weird if you didn't dress up. I haven't had the chance to stop by for brunch but it is always busy around that time. The dinner menu is fantastic and the fried chicken on Mondays is worth going for.

The star of the meal both times I've been for brunch has been whichever savory scone or biscuit is on the menu (specific flavor/ingredients differ). Will come back just for this.
Seats and 2-top tables are extremely small and uncomfortable, I cant imagine people of all sizes could even fit.

My wife received a pork chop was extremely undercooked. The staff seemed less than accommodating.

Decent food and cute/cozy vibe, but the experience was ruined by junk fees. This is essentially a fast casual brunch spot.
There's a 5% health fee and a 5% service fee, which the restaurant makes very clear on the menu that these are not part of the gratuity. In addition, you order with the hostess before getting seated and tip upfront instead of after the meal. So you're essentially paying at least a 28% fee just to sit at a table that turned out to have no actual service. After we got our food, nobody checked in on us.
The breakfast sandwich was pretty good. The dutch pancake was kind of bland and flavorless. Not coming back.

Great drinks. Don’t get the hype on the dinner dishes. Everything I’ve tried including their top recommendations was underwhelming. The mandatory 5% service charge and 5% sf mandate on top of asking for tip is lame. I live nearby and actively avoid this place when introducing my friends to the area. The service is hit or miss.

This place is super cozy! We were able to get a seat for 2 for dinner without a reservation. The place had just the right amount of people chatting it up. The service was quick, the servers seemed happy, and the food was impeccable. I will concede that it was $36 for a chicken dinner, and I thought that was a little pricey, but it was honestly a really good meal and was worth the price. We got some of their fresh baked bread w/ butter and that was delicious, too.
