I love Venezuelan arepas and this was nothing close to it. Very disappointed

I had high hopes about this restaurant. First time trying a Venezuelan restaurant in SFO, and as a Venezuelan itself, this food is not near to be a good Venezuelan food, I ate an arepa and the caraota sauce was acid when it shouldn’t, the grilled chicken felt like it was cooked 2 days ago. The lady that assisted us did not have a good customer service and the atmosphere felt off, the restaurant seems neglected in some way.

I’m so heartbroken. Every time I’m in SF I make sure to eat here as a celiac. All other times my friends and I have had lovely experiences, and the food is always amazing.

I came in yesterday, a woman in a gray Cal sweatshirt took my order. I’ve never seen her there before but she was so rude, gave me nasty looks and watched me eat my food across the room the whole time and scoffing to herself. I talked with my friends about my experience and they too said she was extremely short and rude to them. I’ll never be coming back unless this woman is dealt with accordingly. This has upset me so much.

*edit: I see online that the manager fired the employee responsible for the racism so I removed my comment about that. I applaud how quickly she took action, but it doesn’t describe the bizarre experience my friends and I had with the server :(

Are you looking for a quick bite that is different in flavor, fulfilling in taste, easy to share with friends, I think Pica Pica could be just that place. I have come here plenty of times after playing sports and feeling hungry for something to tie me over. I love their Arepas , there are plenty to choose from. Their yuca fries are always yummy . Staff is moving orders and the atmosphere is alright for a quick bite. Give it a try if you haven't already.

Weird attention from the girl taking the orders, she charged us 0.50 for the box to go lol and the foos was weirdly spicy to be venezuelan.

Coconut lemonade was nice. If you used to Mexican food, opt for the white corn , the yellow was too sweet for my taste.

Food was delicious. Flavorful. Their sauces are pretty amazing. Food was fast. The cachapa falls apart and is soft and wonderful in the mouth.

Fabulous food. I got the pork pernil sweet yellow corn arepa. It was delicious as heck, stuffed with pork and a fat slice of avocado. Incredibly flavorful.
It is a little pricey, but that makes sense for the area I suppose.
I do wish the sauces were explained, or kept refrigerated, as they sit out on the tables all day and most of the sauce bottles were unmarked.
All that to say, I will be back!
