I am meeting friends here. We are quickly welcomed and seated on our table. Reservations are a must I think.

I see a smoking plate being carried to a nearby table and I know what I’ll be ordering.

Our host is friendly and efficient. Our server attentive and checks our order for correctness. The service and attention to detail is good. Our table is cleaned a number of times and waters are refilled fast. I don’t think I got to anything less than 1/2 a glass.

The smoking plate is dahi puri. Nicely done. The yoghurt mousse on it is unique. There a bit of a kick from the masala. Very tasty. Very enjoyable.

For the mains we had lamb shank nihari and butter chicken. The playing is gorgeous. The food has a nice unique taste. A bit different from the regular flavors of these dishes but in a good way. The garlic naan bread delivers.

The texture of milk looks beautiful, tastes just right, and offers an excellent capper to a delicious meal.

Great experience. Nice ambiance. Good vibes.

Will be back.

Rooh came from a late-night craving my wife had for Indian food. We checked for a reservation and there was no availability, but when we called, they picked up immediately and told us we could come in within 10–15 minutes and they’d seat us. We arrived and were taken care of right away. My wife was craving the Dahi Puri, so we ordered that along with the chicken tacos. Watching her reaction to the first bite of the Dahi Puri made me want to try it instantly… she was genuinely transported back to her childhood memories of eating it from a street stall in Gujarat during her visits to India. Her eyes lit up. That dish is truly well executed: the initial punch of salty and sweet hits perfectly.

The chicken tacos had that signature seasoning and were well made, but they didn’t have a big “wow factor.” One important note: they are spicy—so if you’re sensitive to heat, keep that in mind before ordering.

Since this was a pre-airport meal, we kept it simple for the main course: butter chicken, a side of saffron rice, and garlic naan. Honestly, the butter chicken is a classic, safe choice/traditional, no major surprise or innovation, but well done. The saffron rice is a good side, though it can get a bit boring by the end. The naan, unfortunately, was forgettable, very similar to what you can buy at a supermarket (sorry).

For dessert, we felt the options weren’t particularly exciting and definitely not the restaurant’s strongest area. We went with the Rasmalai based on the recommendation, this was the chef’s interpretation with different textures, but personally, there was no “wow” moment. We didn’t love it, and it’s not something we’d order again. It had a good sweetness balance and a nice salty contrast, but that’s about it. What I recommend most at Rooh is the “Mango Tango” (basically a Mango Lassi), which was extremely well executed—one of the best we’ve had. And the service deserves a special mention: our server, a guy from Goa, had a ton of personality: attentive, brutally honest in the best way, and genuinely helpful.

Overall, Rooh is a casual restaurant that’s worth returning to. Next time we’ll come back to try more dishes, especially some bolder creations, so we can better judge whether it’s best for a casual lunch/dinner or if it can rise to the level of a special occasion spot.

Food was great, but what set our experience (large group, 17+) over the top was our hostess/server, Pooja.

Her accommodation and attention to detail made it so much easier to focus on the dinner
enjoy. Definitely recommend being in touch with her if you’re hosting a larger group - she is just great.

We absolutely love the food here and will keep coming back. We ordered butter chicken, paneer pinwheel, dahi puri, and assorted crisps with chutney, and they were all phenomenal. So much flavor in every dish they serve. Service is amazing too. We had Deepraj, who was super friendly and helpful!

We visited ROOH for my husband’s birthday and drove almost two hours from Santa Rosa because we were excited to try a Michelin-recognized restaurant.

Unfortunately, I accidentally made the reservation for 4 people instead of 5. I completely understand that reservations matter, but I was honestly disappointed that they couldn’t accommodate just one extra person, especially for a birthday celebration. We explained the situation politely, but there wasn’t much flexibility or effort to help us out.

When you travel that far for a special occasion, you expect not just good food, but warm hospitality too. It just didn’t feel as welcoming as we had hoped for such an important night.

Just sharing my experience so others double-check their reservations carefully.

We visited ROOH San Francisco with high expectations, especially after having a great experience at ROOH Palo Alto—but unfortunately, this location was a big letdown.

The food at the SF location tasted very ordinary, like a standard Indian restaurant, with nothing that stood out as unique or elevated. The flavors were flat and lacked the refinement we expected from a restaurant positioned as high-end. Even the naan was very basic, which was surprising.

What disappointed us the most was that the taste and presentation didn’t match the premium pricing or reputation. Compared to Palo Alto, the SF dishes felt completely different and far below expectations.

Overall, we left feeling extremely disappointed, especially given ROOH’s brand and hype. This experience did not justify the cost or the fine-dining label.

Had a really great experience at Rooh. The food was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, with a nice modern touch while still keeping the authentic Indian taste. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. The ambiance is warm and stylish, perfect for a relaxed meal, and the staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Overall, it felt like a place you’d want to come back to. Definitely recommend checking it out.

After spending way too much time at the Exchange there on 8th at Branon, looking for just the right rock for a wedding ring with Pillsbury Pete and his little fluff muffin Hastie Puddin, I was ready for food! I really wanted pizza, because there's a great place not far away, but the others wanted Indian food, and my first thought was ..Oh great ..Navajo flat bread with greasy goat meat marinated in prickly pear cactus juice..again! No thanks!
Then Hastie says something about the Roof SF Indian restaurant right up the street and how gentle they are with the curry, and that's when I realized we're not taking about the foods from New Mexico and Arizona! I had a chicken dish that was right between amazing and spectacular ..either one of those descriptions would be appropriate, along with 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ ROOH SF is worthy of a cross-town trek.

The food was awesome! I loved the mushroom garden - the realistic presentation blew my mind! And I loved the Mumbai chai cocktail! So light and bright!

Exceptional Vegetarian Experience

We came here three times in a row!!

Rooh truly delivers when it comes to elevated Indian cuisine especially for vegetarians. Every vegetarian dish we tried was thoughtful beautifully plated and packed with layered flavors. Nothing felt like an afterthought. You can really tell the menu is designed with creativity and intention by Chef Ashish!

The non alcoholic guava drink deserves a special mention. It was refreshing perfectly balanced and honestly one of the best zero proof drinks we have had.

From the ambiance to the service to the food everything felt refined yet comfortable. Rooh sets the bar high for modern Indian dining and it is a place we would happily return to again and again.

Highly recommend especially if you are vegetarian.
The Jackfruit taco was amazing btw!
