The price is cheap, the coffee is good. Banh mi xiu mai is fine, maybe the finest. The menu said "bánh mì heo quay" but the pork is just caramelized and doesn't taste legit. Heo quay or roasted pork is very different from what they serve. The same problem with roasted chicken. It's not gà quay at all.
I give a 4 to support Vietnamese aunties, but have to say it's not authentic bánh mì, not even close to Bánh mì heo quay and Bánh mì gà quay in Vietnam

Really sweet ladies that work there. I got the roast pork sandwich and pork belly sandwich. I liked the roast pork one more. Vietnamese coffee is so sweet and delicious. When i went at 10am there was a line of about 5 people but it only took 10min.

Average banh mi and I’ve had my fair share of banh Mi, both in the bay and in Vietnam. I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while but honestly was disappointed. I think the biggest let down is the quality of the bread. I came around 10:30am on a Friday so maybe they didn’t have fresh bread yet? It was a bit stale and dry. Can’t complain about the price though but it is cash only.

My current favorite spot is banh mi crunch.

I am a big fan of the sandwiches. Today, I was served more of French roll instead of the baguette, with the crispy crust. To me that is what makes a true banh mi. The filling was superb as usual but please bring back the baguettes.

The saigon shack is truly a statement on San Francisco / Bay Area eats and it is justified.

This is one of the top 3 bahn mi shops in the city for me and definitely the one with the best prices.

They charge 5.50 (as of Sep 2024) for a sandwich and it’s got a bunch of good meat and is super flavorful. They don’t have to consider what they charge and yet they do.

Personally, I just wished it had a bit more veggies. But it’s just great. My favorite one is the pork bahn mi.

This is a takeout only place and although there’s usually a line it goes by fast. They only take cash.

Update 9/8/24 1pm me and multiple friends got food poisoning purchasing banh mi's at that time. It was the only food we shared that day.

Delicious and loaded banh mi. Cash only. We ordered the chicken, meatball, pork belly combo, and specialty combo. It was a tie between the specialty and meatball for the best, then the pork belly, and the chicken last. All were good, that’s just how we ranked them. There’s a line, but it doesn’t take long. There’s only street parking.

Parking: Street parking only. I’m not sure if I got a ticket or not. I stopped in front of the store to drop off a passenger. The CITY’s ticket guy told me to move, which I acknowledged. He then stepped in front of my car, took a picture, went to the back took another picture. As I pulled away I noticed him writing in his pad. All this happened in less than 2 minutes.

One of the best hole in the wall places to get a Bahn mi sandwich. One of the best in the city but you need to go through the tenderloin to get it.

This is an affordable street food spot where I enjoyed a tasty Tofu Banh Mi for just $5.50 (cash only, so no need to get taxed extra!). While I've had better Banh Mi, it's a great value and worth trying. The location is a bit sketchy and the shop is tiny with no seating, so be prepared to take your food to go or eat on the street.
