Excellent Vietnamese sandwiches starting at $5.50-cash only! Tofu sandwich available for vegetarians! Fast service! Not located in the best neighborhood. But it is buy and go!
The sandwiches are good and prices are reasonable. However, I keep getting diarrhea after eating the food from here so it makes me question the hygienic standards of this place.

Might be the best value in the whole city
Large, affordable, healthy Banh Mi to go
Hands down The. Best. Bahn Mi in the Bay Area. If you haven't been here, go now. Like, right now. But also, let's get you ready. It's a hole in the wall in the Tenderloin, so just be aware what you're walking into. Again, it's worth it. There is no seating and sometimes there's a bit of a line, but don't - I repeat DO NOT - jump out of line to go to Lee's up the block. The Saigon Sandwich ladies are sandwich-making machines, so the line moves fast. I remember when the sandwiches went from $4 to $4.25. They hover around $5.50 (still cash only). Get one for now and one for later. I recommend the tofu, but you can't go wrong.

It’s totally safe walking here as long as it’s in the day. It’s not 2022.
Best value in the city. You couldn’t get 1/4 pound of pork belly that good for $5, let alone how much you get in the sandwich. Incredible stuff.

Mad props to Saigon. Banh Mi half the price of anywhere else i’ve seen in the city—quality just as good.
True SF institution.

I received a perfect tofu banh mi in maybe 30s of ordering. Sure, there was a small line out the door upon arrival, but they do a bang-up job of keeping that line quelled. That is the optimal ordering experience: walk in, be called upon by the cashier/cook for your order, respond, receive order, leave. Prime. And the joint was only $5.50 a sammich?! $11 for two, cash money only?!?!?!?
I will dream of a return visit.

Saigon Sandwich is a total classic stop for bánh mì in San Francisco — cheap, fast, and delicious. It’s no-frills, cash-only, and mainly for takeout, but that’s part of the charm. The bread is crispy, the fillings are flavorful, and the quick service makes it an unbeatable spot for a satisfying meal.
