the food was superb. However, i sat outside inpatio where there were heaters. But one wall of the outside was open and I asked them to close it. They could not. It was freezing, very uncomfortable. Im still shocked they could not shut off that wall from the outside. Ridiculous. Outrageous

Attentive, polite service in an intimate and cool setting that backs up excellent cocktails and extremely tasty food. Food portions on the expensive side but serve as a much more accessible point than the chefs' other restaurants. They had just added a pork jowl to the menu, which was filling and phenomenal.

Overall, the experience was good. However, both cocktails were quite ordinary. Considering it's a bar, the drinks were surprisingly average, while the food was actually more impressive. I don't think I would visit again.

Cheese burger, cheese fries and sake were high points. Chocolate Matcha Desserts were amazing! If you're seated in the outdoor area, noise and close conversations detracts from overall enjoyment. We were sandwiched between two loud couples which made us have to yell to hear one another. Recommend requesting a corner table or just get drunk and enjoy it. Not recommended for a romantic date or business meeting. More of a “video your food” type of crowd.

Arrived ahead of our reservation and were seated right away. Very nice bar with delicious cocktails. The staff was friendly and very attentive. We live quite a distance away but would make the trip to come again.

Ambience and food were a 10/10! We went for the apps — the ceviche, oysters, and sashimi were to die for. And the matcha affogato? My fave.

SF Chronicle named Bar Shoji the best new bar of 2025 - so we had to try it out. Booked a reservation for two for Bar seating. Highly recommend bar seating for two - great service, lively banter and entertaining to watch the cocktails get made. For cocktails, we ordered the Miyabi (japanese french 75) which was beautiful and delicious - not too sweet, and we ordered the Kabosu (japanese margarita) which was also great. Husband then followed up with Asahi beer and I had the Shoji Highball - again, great. For food we ordered the oysters - OMG, so good. The beet chili jam and fried shallot were flavor bombs with the fresh, sweet oysters. Could have eaten a dozen of these on my own! The ceviche was also delicious - we were warned it was spicy - which it was, but also citrusy - with fresh grapefruit, another dish we would order again. What may be the restaurant's signature dish followed - the Uni Amaebi Donburi. So beautiful - and so tasty! Some reviewers mentioned the portion being small - I found it to be just right. Its a rich dish of creamy uni, sweet shrimp, roe and the luscious egg yolk - and shared between us, it was just right. Could have used a few more nori sheets with the dish (which they offer for an extra charge). For the price of the dish - additional nori sheets should be complimentary. But this is a GREAT dish that I would order again and again. And lastly we ordered the Shoji burger - comes halved and served on a plate of sizzling cheese fondue. Some reviewers noted a thin patty - but our burger came with two thin patties, plenty of carmalized onions and the pickled cucumbers were a necessary acid element to cut through the richness of the dish. The burger is quite messy - but worth it. Probably would not order again - not because it wasn't delicious - but because we want to be able to try other items on the menu. This is a restaurant worthy of all the hype - beautiful space with a great vibe, great music and great food and drinks!

Food was high quality and has a lot of flavor, especially the burger and miso soup. Service was also exceptional

Drinks are smooth but a little pricy (as expected for sf). Hojiicha Affagato was really nice.

My second time in a week at Bar Shoji. This time I was with family. Again, excellent service. Food and cocktails, delicious. Our only complaint was that the heating lamp above us was not working, and it happened to be very cool outside, so it was a bit uncomfortable. (We were offered a blanket, though.) Also, although the uni donburi was delicious, the portion was very small for the price. Thanks again, Bar Shoji, for another great experience.

My 3rd time here and it's always an amazing treat. Everything on the menu is so good! If I had to choose it would be UNI AMAEBI DONBURI with Hokkaido uni and the Shoji Burger are a must! Fries and garlic edamame are staples. We took home the edamame sauce...that's how good it was! Nothing on the menu is the wrong choice. Service was stellar and ambiance killed it.
