I rarely write long reviews, but Sushi Uma deserves every word. From the moment I walked in, I felt at ease. It’s a small, intimate space — no fancy décor or trendy playlist, just quiet focus on the food. The omakase was a true journey: delicate white fish, followed by buttery toro, clean-cut scallops, and a deep, rich piece of marinated mackerel. Each piece built on the last, and the pacing was flawless. I appreciated that they don’t overcomplicate things. The flavor is all in the quality of the fish and the way it’s treated. It felt like every piece had a story. Easily one of the best meals I’ve had all year.

There are good sushi restaurants, and then there’s Sushi Uma — a place that truly honors the tradition of Japanese sushi. The omakase was simple and stunning. Not overcomplicated, not drowned in sauce, just clean, fresh fish paired with beautifully seasoned rice. Every piece felt personal and carefully chosen for the moment it was served. I especially loved how the chef adjusted based on our reactions — swapping in a different cut or checking in subtly without interrupting the flow of the meal. It’s clear that this is a passion project for the chef, not just a business. You can taste the difference, and it keeps me coming back.

Sushi Uma is sushi with soul. The kind of meal that makes you slow down, pay attention, and truly taste what’s in front of you. I came in alone and sat at the bar, and it was one of the most peaceful dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. The chef quietly served each piece of the omakase with perfect pacing, and the flavors were pure and focused. The fish was so fresh it had that slight sheen that only same-day cuts have. The uni was cold and sweet, the tamago was like dessert, and even the gari (pickled ginger) was sliced thin and bright. You can tell they care about every element of the experience, and that care shines through in every bite.

We purchased the All You Can Eat so we can try everything and we liked it all. Sushis were fresh and tasty. Service was good too, a little slow but place was full. Not a place to go if you are in a hurry.

Sushi was very smooth and easy to eat. If you do the AYCE, don't do it alone. The portions are pretty big!

This place has sushi cuts which are surprisingly excellent at prices below average. It's my favorite secret neighborhood sushi source. I highly recommend it.

Small restaurant. Came in at an uncharacteristically warm evening for SF and the place was very warm. I'm not expecting air conditioning or fans for a single warm night in SF, but I was kind of expecting iced water. But even that had to be requested (and the waitress forgot the ice...). All by itself wouldn't have been the end of the world, except the fish was also warm. Which is quite off putting for sushi. I would like to give them another chance, but with so many other decent places around... Not sure if they'll ever get the chance.

Food was solid. Service INCREDIBLY slow. Never refilled my water. Didn’t bring me a napkin. Soy sauce empty. I waited over 30 minutes for my second round. I got fuller as I waited and they charge if you don’t finish everything. This slow service seems like it might be planned.

Came in on a Sunday afternoon after going on a hike. My friends and I decided to do the AYCE sushi.

It's a casual and small restaurant.

Service was a little slow, despite most of the customers leaving after we were seated.
We had to wait a bit before a waiter took our order. Later on, when we put our second order in, we had to wait approximately 30min for it to arrive. While we were waiting, they prepared many to-go orders.

Fish was fresh! I was extremely happy with the quality and freshness of the nigirl. Also really enjoyed the coral reefs roll.
